A text message I got from star actor Segun Arinze this evening concerning comments on a previous posts - Segun Arinze and family cover magazine. He wants to set the record straight about some misconceptions. See it below...
Dear Linda, I want to thank you for having such a wonderful blog. Having said that, I want to say despite the fact that we have freedom of expression doesn't give people the liberty to be reckless with words without verifying facts first. Someone said my wife cut across as someone rude. That's a big lie! She's the most courteous person you can think of. Sometimes people like to take the piss.
Now my full names are Segun Aina Padonou. My father, though late, was Yoruba from Badagry. My mum is Ibo. Arinze is the Ibo name given to me by my mum. So I used it as Pseudonym. That's why you have Segun Arinze. And as at the last time I looked in the mirror, I didn't see any ugly Segun. No human has a right to call another ugly because you ain't God. You would think all those who excel in criticizing, abusing, slighting, cursing, insulting, vilifying, slandering, denigrating, and insulting anyone they disagree with or dislike are perfect beauties, immaculate human beings, or rather, saints. For them, for example, there is always a rich tycoon behind every expensive acquisition by a female actress—other than their sister, niece, or cousin. They accuse any actress—other than their sister, niece, or cousin—seen in the company of a man other than her husband or boyfriend of sleeping with him. They are quick to apportion blame to anyone “rumoured” to have done this or that, even if they ignore the details of what someone is accused of. No wonder they viciously attacked Segun Arinze for no reason whatsoever. Is it a sin to be born “ugly”? Does anyone CHOOSE to be born so? Is beauty not in the eyes of the beholder? Calling someone ugly is one height of stupidity on the part of some people.most people fail to realize that even your own body doesn't belong to you , one can only maintain it. If any man/woman as such power to determine how he/she appears facially , then pride would have ruined us all. Having a beautiful face is not all that is to life but having a beautiful soul that will be loved by all around you and touching lives positively. So those of you who eel you've got all the beauty in lie should count yourself lucky but also know that you've got a whole lot of hard work to do by complimenting that good look with great character worthy of emulation.
Let us call a spade a spade and not an agricultural implement...Segun Arinze is not exactly Brad Pitt lookalike or David Beckham body double. This ignorant Segun Arinze. I went to Nigeria in 2004, standing in front of my boy's house, I saw him passing by with a woman and a baby. So, as someone I remembered seeing on TV when I lived in Nigeria as a boy (and as I was surprised because he basically appeared from "nowhere" ) I was excited and I pointed at him to my friend like "Em, thats that actor...whats his name again?".... CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS FOOL STEPPED TO ME AND WARNED ME NOT TO POINT?!? I had to control myself not to curse him out. Very rude and ignorant.
