Aides of billionaire bizwoman, Folorunsho Alakija, arrested for fraud

An aide of billionaire business woman, Mrs Folorunsho Alakija, and six others have been arrested by EFCC for forgery, impersonation and stealing N3 million from Mrs Alakija's foundation, Rose of Sharon.

Vincent Ayewah (pictured above centre) conspired with six others to allegedly steal cheques and withdraw money meant for the beneficiaries of the Rose of Sharon Foundation. Mrs Alakija, who petitioned the EFCC, alleged that Vincent forged cheques of the foundation’s Stanbic IBTC Bank Account and got his sister Miss Florence Ayewah  (pictured above, right) and their friends to cash the forged cheques by presenting them with fake identity cards.

In the course of investigation,  it was discovered that Vincent used his position to enlist his family members as beneficiaries of the scheme. Florence was arrested at a Stanbic IBTC bank in Lagos while trying to cash a forged Cheque in the sum of N97, 000 in favour of one Ms Olubunmi Juliana Ishola. Besides Vincent and Florence, six other members of the syndicate involved in the scam and who have also been arrested are: George Ehizibolo, Onwuwa David, Okonkwo Chikadibia, Emmanuel Ayewah, Florence Ayewah and Chinyere Awanah.

The suspects will be arraigned in court soon.

EFCC? I thought they said they only get involved in cases involving huge sums of money? At least that was what they told my Aunty when she took a case of N10m+ to them. They told her to go to the police. Why show double standards because its Mrs. Alakija?

i am rather disaapointed that a billionier will make public and petition the efcc over a 3million naire fraud in her office. compared to the 1million dollars she makes a day from her oil block, what is 3mill naire? if she was paying her staff well, they wouldnt want to steal from her. she should have handled this matter privately as an inhouse matter and call in the police instead of petition the efcc. rather embarssing to me

I think it's rather wicked of Alakija to subject them to such embarrassment and unnecessary trauma. She should have simply sacked the guilty aides and used the police to retrieve her funds quietly. N3m is a paltry sum to have to go to this length just to prove a point. I can't understand some people sha.'

Ur soooo dumb its ubelievale, give the 1 Mill N a month n they will still try and steal two, its like you don't know our people well

Jay O said...

The comments on this blog are outrageous!! As in regardless of how much this woman makes, is it justifiable to steal?? How many of you have companies, or employ people, do you sit down while they steal? This is how we raise a society of thieves, money by any means necessary, everyone wants to hammer overnight! Life isnt that way! Greed, no matter the situation is never right! I have seen my yankee bank account go down in the red! -$8, meaning I had $0!! Even then, it never crossed my mind, that I should go take someone's money, or find a rich man, and take some money from his wallet!!

These people who are stealing N3m today, will steal N30m if you let them, and these are the same people who will eventually become leaders and steal N3b!!! Folks, our biggest problem in Nigeria today is that we dont really understand how to tackle our issues, and the comments on here are indicative of that!!

Jay O said...

Besides this money was for people who needed it, her foundation is for the underprivileged!! Greed is bad, the people the Ayewahs were stealing from are underprivileged!! Thats wickedness, and that has permeated our society! They got so greedy, that they didnt care where the money was going to, only where it was coming from, and how they could intercept it!

Anonymous said...

mahn nigerians you always want to have your cake and eat it. If it was a rich/well known person that stole 3million it would be a big deal and they would be called greedy. but because they stole it from a rich person it is somehow more acceptable, because they are poorer, or you assume she didn't pay them well. And not that their plain greedy? You don't think she's working for her money? This is why we never move forward. People need to take responsibility for their actions and stop hiding behind this income divide. it is ignorant

Just what did Madam Alakija do to make her #millions?...dont tell me she did not WORK OVERTIME LAYING ON HER BACK during the OBJ days to get those STOLEN OIL RIGS!!!

Don't get me wrong, I'm sick and tired of nigerians always trying to be "sharp" but then this woman, of all people, should have known better than publicising this petty theft.

All the people saying that Ms Alakija should not call EFCC for 3 millions, do you realise that somewhere is a poor beneficiary that maybe was depending on said money to further their studies, pay for heathcare or just feed who has been defrauded not Ms Alakija?
Do you understand that it will be hard for some of the victims to prove that they may not have received the money allotted to them in the first place? Do you realize that people would be less likely to donate to a foundation that fattens its staff personal accounts instead of helping the needy?

Jay O, Abeg take a seat joor. D supposed billions shes enjoying 2day, how did she manage 2 get it? From naija's oil bloc of which d proceeds are meant 2 use 2 make our lives(urs inclusive) better. But "using ur own words"these proceeds never got 2 us bcos she intercepted it and enriched herself stupendously with it. As a result u decided 2 run away 2 wherever u r 2 make a better living, or are u trying 2 tell me dat if things were better in naija 2day u won't b here? Don't stay there and insult other bloggers after all all wot they were trying 2 say is dat she really went over the top in handling this situation. A sack of the erring staffs and informing d police 2 retrieve d stolen funds is punishment enuff, which one is informing the EFCC over a theft of 3 mil? Abegiiii!!!!!

Let's be sensible for once, this is the same attitude that nigerians excude that makes most steal. So just because she is a billioniar, everyone should come and steal from her, tomorrow now you will her that she has gone bankrupt at that point who will help her. If everyone that works for her decides to steal am sure she won't be where she is today. If u r offered a salary and u feel its too small, u can always turn down the offer, there should be no excuse for fraud, big or small.

Crazy talks, some nigerians still think because someone is rich, then people should go ahead to steal their money without getting justice. When arm robbers now go to their houses to steal & deal with them messlesly, they come out to cry that Government should get security for the country, you don't need security, you need arm robbers , because that where they start from, if they can't get Alakijas money to steal , the next place is your houses. I pray that the supporters of this fraudulent act, be visited soon by robbers IJN Amen.
