Court in Lagos jail three Indian directors

The Ganglani brothers
Three Indian brothers, Chandru Ganglani, Bharat Ganglani and Trishul Ganglani who are directors of a plastic company in Lagos, Sacvin Nigeria Limited, were this morning sentenced to one month imprisonment without an option of fine by a Federal High Court in Lagos, for disobeying the order of the court.

Cause of wahala: Another plastic company, VIK company instituted a legal action against Sacvin Company for selling plastic products identical in design to theirs and making them (VIK) lose money.

A court in Lagos made an interim order restraining Sacvin from manufacturing and selling the plastic products but the company directors disobeyed court order and continued manufacturing, supplying and selling the products. When they appeared in court today, they were sentenced to one month in prison.

One month for contempt of court? Question is, did they try and get an injunction to stop the other court order from being enforced?

"...imprisonment without an option of fine, for disobeying the order of the court." I don't know why we keep bringing these people to manage our companies in the first place , when we have competent Nigerians that can perform better when given the necessary facilities and good working conditions.
When we travel out most times, we hustle to make ends meet. When they come as expatriate (turning us to slaves in our own land) they are here to hustle as well, right? So they should respect and obey the rule of the Land before exploiting us. When you are in ROME you behave Like a ROMAN

Lagos is not a jungle, awooo! Now they would learn to respect d laws and also constituted authorities in Nigeria or at least Lagos.

Shame to see respectable looking men going to jail though.

They have experienced the corporate world in Nigeria.Let them experience the prison world too.
I hope they dont come out BLACK.

Truth be told, the disposition of a good number of the foreign nationals to the laws of the land often exceed the bounds of good taste.
They exploit the lapses in the judicial system for their own selfish benefits. This should send a clear message to others that the rules of the land are sacrosanct and binding on all.

GOod call!! Stuff dey can't do in their own country..

Welldone. Im loving this. The think they can get away with any rubbish

Anonymous said...

Naim good for them. They were looking down on the Nigerian Courts. Yeye people. I can just imagine the way they treat their Nigerian employees. Can they disobey court orders in their country?

The employees must have had horrible working conditions as is synonymous with their type. Mschewww! They should lock them up and throw away the keys.

There is something fundamentally wrong with our judicial system in nigeria. One month isn't enough to make these bloody indians remorse enough the Judge should have given them at least 6-9months. That way they would be sober and it will serve as a deterrence to other fellow indians who's M.O is contravening the Laws of the Country and Law Labours. Am sure even that one month sentence will not be spent within the confines of a jail; if I know the typical bloody dirty, smelling of garlic indian man!

Iyen naa nice lmao. Yinka

Thats good justice for them. Next time they will obey court order in nigeria........harrison

Des curry-smelling-garlic-breath-disgusting-indians always think dey r above black ppl. Shame some ignorant nigerians refer 2 dem as white wen racially, we r above dem. Y give dem a month jail sentence wen dey r supsd 2 pay a huge settlement 2 d oda company 4 immitation and disobedience. A month is rubbish...dey need 2 pay a huge fine.

NO said...

ooooooh no! Only one month? Mtcheeeeeh!

Ooooooh no! Only one month? Mtcheeeeew!

Do they deserve to be punished? Yes... However does the punishment fit the crime? No... I think a very hefty fine would have been appropriate but then again I remember the extreme Lagos state took when churches defiled the no noise policy so I am guessing naija is a place of taking judgements to extremes

Anonymous said...

I am, the no Sender.

Ten happy gbozas for the Judge that sentenced them. Somehow, one way or the other, Naija go level up.

Were they really sentenced to prison or with the option of paying a fine? A month at whatever prison is not much at all.

Indians!!! Na wa oh

They should be deported!!

Finally our Nigerian government if fighting for Nigerians instead of against them. My Dad was in the Plastic industry and it was dominated by Indians (nothing wrong with that) but our government unlike America and other COuntries, does nothing to help its people compete. Maybe this is a change....who knows...

Anonymous said...

They deserve their punishment for their disobedience, but the racist comments are disgusting. You cannot racially abuse all Indians as being smelly and want them deported. Nigeria is slowly becoming multicultural- like all developing countries are- so get use to it!!

Anonymous said...

Good for them. Really cant stand Indians.. They have no regard for us. Dirty Punjaby Indians

Indians r not oyinbos

Nigeria should continue to arrest these useless celebrities in the country. They think they can do whatever.

Great! no Indian Curry and Basmati rice for one month.

These people aren't white so why do we classify non-black people as white? lol

I don't like the Chinese, Indian, white and Lebanese people in Nigeria. They think they are better than us and are above the law. Well, I don't blame them when our people have inferior complex and would rather give these racists work.
these aliens aren't shit in their countries. Black people continue to mess up themselves. They worship people that aren't black. My landlord is North Korean and this guy doesn't hire any other person outside his country to work on his house. My dear people on the other hand, would rather hire other races because they feel other races with the REAL silky hair are better than them! BS!!!

@K, you are absolutely right. How will 1 month term compensate the initial plantiff for their loss. They should've been made to pay for their cost of business.

I however need to ask, was the initial product patented? I suppose not. Maybe they stole intellectual property but I'm not sure if this is a crime.

Nonetheless, I think the indians, lebanese or all foreigners are keeping the real sector alive in Nigeria. How many indigenous factories are still running? We are more pre-occupied with buying bentley's and g-wagons we often end up running our companies bankrupt. The foreigners have the expertise, management capabilities, deliver standard products. They manage hotels, restaurants, factories, construction, etc better. It will do us a ton of good to learn from them, without the intent to defraud, kill or cut corners in delivering service. How many nigerian restaurants as old as double 4 are still open? Even with their run down facilities and tacky surroundings, their food remains d same and people still troop there. What did we do with our ikoyi hotel and fed palace? Why is standard chartered still the most prestigious bank imbibing professionalism and ethics, when our indigenous banks hire based on how pretty a girl is?

We need to wake up and smell the coffee, learn new global standards, else we remain where we are, gross poverty in an oil producing country. Sad!!!

What is sad about it? Me I de UK I dom go 3months just for working illegally. And paying tax o! Infant na 12months them for get.

if have my way i won't give them 12hrs to pack out from our country they are the most useless aminal i have ever seeing ,i don't call them oyibo i call them white albino bcous they feel so inferior to white that why they behave the way ? they are the most worst human being, and i know thier days are nomber when bh we start on them.

Injunction to stop a court order? I don't think you're asking the right question.

Global market is one thing but contravening and having a total disregard for the law of the land is another..1 month ke!!..indians normally take the piss..u give them an inch they would take a mile..they need to cut their wings what are they doing that a 9ja person couldn't???..and if we have to put up with their 1st class hygiene..@St8frmdahips..

These curry's who have no regard for Nigeria and Nigerians need to be jailed for life. Mofo's.... Can't stand them.

Anonymous said...

stinky curries, should be deported.I hate indians

idy said...

by way of information, an order for remand for contempt is not a judgement against the plaintiff..
just a punishment for not complying with the order not to manufacture till the case is determined....which means that the substantive case is still on-going..

#kudos to the court on this!! at least, they will learn to take our justice system seriously! before now, they would've gottn away with this!
