Rio2016: Don't Blame me If Nigeria Fails to Qualify- Samson Siasia

Chief Coach of Nigeria’s U-23 national team, Samson Siasia says that he should not be blamed if Nigeria fails to qualify for the Rio Olympics next month because his team has been treated like “orphans”. According to him, the team has not been paid their allowances in the last 9 months and they have not been provided with training kits as well.
“Nigerians should know that we are not well prepared (for the championship) and I should not be held responsible for whatever happens. We are orphans. We have not been paid our bonuses, while the Super Eagles were paid full bonuses even when they drew in Burkina Faso. We have been without allowances for the past nine months.
How can you survive in this kind of situation, where you have not been paid for three months, no car, no training kits. We have to wash to wear our kits. It’s embarrassing. The NFF keep saying they don’t have money. Nobody from the football federation is concerned about our daily welfare in the camp. At times, we fuel vehicles to carry us to training. The players’ morale is down as most of them have not been receiving salaries from their clubs. How can one expect good output from these set of players? To me, Nigerians are liars. It has gotten to the situation that I won’t just sit down quietly and die, I’m tired of the system. I want Nigerians to know at this juncture that I won’t be responsible for any bad result that may come out of our campaign in the African U-23 Nations Cup. I should not be held responsible for whatever happens at the championship”he lamented

This doesn't speak well of us at all. How can we neglect an important Dream team whose predecessors way back at Atalanta 1996 made us proud and inscribed our name in Gold forever? Don't we want the same scenarios to be re-enacted? cos we have been fairing quite badly in the consequent outings of the Olympics. Common! Our leaders y'all better look into the situation as quick as possible and correct your mistakes by paying these players and coaches all dime owed them and boost their almost totally depreciated and abating morals by providing all that is needed to fuel the mechanism of this outing. Let's make RIO 2016 an unforgettable experience. DON't BLAME SIASIA LATER in case you fail to adhere to this unusual plea.

Sia One, I won't blame you at all, cos most Nigerians are indeed liars (NFF inclusive). I have not seen or heard of hypocrites as worse as Nigerians - ever! Sir, peradventure, you fail to qualify... pls, resign and leave Nigerian football alone, and face other meaning full ventures. Nigeria never values her own! Football is even headed for a downturn as gay footballers are gradually gearing up to come out....God bless you sir for your unflinching patriotism towards Nigeria - history won't forget you. Bless!

It is a shame the NFF still lack the acumen to effectively manage our football. If what siasia is saying is true (I guess he has tried severally to call the NFF attention to their plight ) then it is so unfair to the the team and this generation of U-23 who has been doing so well. The officials will always find money to jamboree and fly first class (U will soon see them if the U-17 qualifies for the finals) but have scant concern for players welfare.Sometimes I laugh when I see our teams during trainings roll on raw grass for floor stretches when there are simple floor mats to make it more ideal for the body.Well so much so for the giant of Africa and I hope someone in the presidency will bail out siasia and his team.
