BVN Deadline: 26m bank accounts to be frozen

With less than 1 day to the deadline for Bank Verification Number, BVN, about 26 million account holders still haven't  registered to protect their money.
The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has said no extension would be granted after the deadline expires and customers who still haven't registered will have no access to their money or any transaction in their account.
According to CBN, the registration window will still be open after tomorrow, but unregistered customers will not be granted access to their accounts.
According to Vanguard, a CBN Official, who claimed that the exact figures of registered bank customers would not be ready until next week said that “less than half of total bank customers have been captured as at Monday this week.
He said:
“Field reports show that there has been increased surge in the number of registrations per day since last week, but it is clear that we may not exceed 50 percent by the deadline.”
Managing Director, Ecobank Nigeria Plc, Jibril Aku said:
“There will be no extension of the October 31 deadline. All efforts have been made by the committee, CBN and Nigeria Interbank Settlement System for bank customers to obtain their BVN.
“The customers, who fail to meet the deadline will not be able to operate their accounts until they comply.”

Dear CBN,

Customers in the diaspora have no access to this registration.

I live in canada, and the address given for this stuff in toronto is gonna cost me $650 or more to get there.

Besides, the email addresses given has a problem. My mails aren't going through.

CBN and all those involved should fix this nonsense.

Nigerians will always wait till the 99th minute to do things. Later they will turn around and look for someone to blame.

If we can stop this last Minuit attitudes towards every thing in Nigeria, We can then start to grow. Why always wait till the injury time? Later they would be the ones crying fowl and drawing every other person that adhered to the instructions back with them. (deep sigh).

True , I'm in the US and the closest BVN registration to me is almost 4/5 hours away. It's a damn shame that in Nigeria, they still make everything dependent on physical presence. They should have created a platform whereby people can go online and register for BVN regardless of location. Nigerian banking system is still backward and unreliable

The should not forget that some of these accounts belong to dead people! I bet out of 26m, only 15m or less are actual active accounts

There are approved cbn centres abroad, where you can register. Visit www.oisservices.com and book an appointment with the Centre available in the country you're in.
