That wouldn't be a bad thing especially for job opportunities. But I hope they wouldn't turn it to a dumping ground for American rejected products

Anonymous said...

Yes, they are coming to Lagos. And the plan is to kick people out of Alade market. I heard they have or are arranging getting Alade market people moved to another location.

Walmart already has operations in Nigeria. It would be recalled that Wallmart bought 51% stake in Massmart of South Africa which operates two outlets of GAMES with the third one to be opened soon.

Ds'ree said...

That would be so sad! More importation, more consumerism. Let's promote indigenous businesses.

Anonymous said...

Walmart coming to Lagos would be a death knell for small businesses in Nigeria. Go see what they did to small family owned businesses in America.

Anonymous said...

Linda, Walmart is already in Nigeria. Game store is a walmart subsidiary

Anonymous said...

Walmart is technically in Nigeria. Walmart is an investor in Shoprite.

Lagos goes without saying. Population + Commercial Nerve center of the country = Ka-Ching!!!!

Anonymous said...

Shame

Chimezie Njoku said...

Fyi....for those that don't know. Walmart has been in Nigeria for a while as The Game. That's how they test out business. The Game is another name Walmart goes by.

Anonymous said...

Keep hoping there.

Anonymous said...

They dont have to be. Nigeria has the population. Uk is far less than our population but they have soo many shops around most settlements. It will create jobs competition and price slash where we get value for money.

Anonymous said...

ode. They can both operate cos theyre 2 different companies selling different products. Philip green owns topshop, ms selfridge , dorothy perkins and marks and spencer. Theyre all selling in d same countries targeting different niche markets.

Anonymous said...

I pray my people get education. See how we are welcoming what is bad for us! This is not good news. What we have is foreigners moving in to capitalize on our market. All profits are shipped out to the usa, meanwhile workers in Nigeria will be paid minimum wage. Importation of usa products will spike, flooding our markets which will then hamper our indigenous producers. You young people, you think that is good for you? What you need is money which will stay in the country! We need youngsters like you to start YOUR own walmart. How can Nigeria allow this? Meeting with governors as though it will change Nigerians lives, meanwhile in the long run we are worse off and they are enjoying and exploiting us. Nawa. Even oyibo pple shine eye for walmart. The swiss still haven't let them in. They protect their markets. Then we the un-educated fools open our legs and invite them to rape us. #i don tire for this country

Anonymous said...

Pls the should come to PH Spar is a mess

Anonymous said...

Can't we support shops like Ebeano and the likes rather than allowing Walmart come and take away our money. If we can only be like India that supported TaTA motors that it was able to buy jaguar and Range Rover. Let's protect our own enough with slave mentality.

Anonymous said...

Ode, walmart no dey do franchise

Anonymous said...

Refuse Walmart now, I work for them and I promise you this company will destroy everything on ground.

So true

wall mart is already in Nigeria but haven't commenced operation. Their building is still under construction somewhere in Lekki-Epe Area.

Our government is Pathetic. Why are we killing our local markets. We bring all these conglomerate superstores here and our locals who largely r enterprenuers dealing with these kinds of goods die. Meanwhile we complain of no work. The local markets are not selling anything again. we think we r living well. We r not? Walmart wanted to get into India, cos their locals r just like ours owning small shops, the India government refused their coming in. It will kill their economy. Small busnesses will die. This is not good for us. We dont want them here. Im sure im talking to brickwalls. Go to Alade Market, Ikeja they r no longer selling cos of Shoprite a stone throw away.

dubkod said...

What these conglomerates do is just to employ cheap labour and we think we r living life.

there is fire on the mountain for small retailers in Nigeria
