Giuliana Rancic apologizes on air about weed comment + people want her fired

This whole Giuiliana/Zendaya weed issue is really annoying me. The TV presenter has now been made to apologize on air for saying Zendaya's dreadlocks 'smell of patchouili or 'weed'. Not only that, some celebs who have weighed in on the issue are insulting her, one even mentioned her barrenness.

Whoopi Goldberg said on The View: 'She's not Joan Rivers. Unless you know how to make jokes, don't do it... I've met real racists so I'm very hesitant to call people who put their foot in their mouth racist. She was just ignorant... a bonehead. I have had dreads for 40 years, and never have I smelled like patchouli.'

Comedienne Sheryl Underwood said on The Talk, "How would Giuliana feel if we made comments on her inability to have a baby?'.

I feel like people are just making such a big deal out of this. Is it only black people that wear dreads and smoke weed? How is what Giuilian said racist? It was more silly to me than racist. And now people are calling for her to be sacked from E!. Read that and her apology after the cut...

Radar Online claims an insider told them people want Giuliana gone from Fashion Police and E!
"The entire cast of Fashion Police is done with Giuliana and they are hoping that she will be not only kicked off the show, but also off of the network.”
"And seeing that she's had a bit of an alleged feud with new E! News correspondent Maria Menunos, this new blip is ruffling even more feathers." The source added:
“The network does not condone racism in any way, shape or form and they know that their reputation is now at stake,” the source adds.

Giuliana's apology below...
'I'd really like to address something that's weighing really heavy on my heart. I want to apologize for a comment that I made on last night's Fashion Police about Zendaya's hair.'
'As you know, Fashion Police is a show that pokes fun at celebrities in good spirit, but I do realize that something I said last night did cross the line.'
'I just want everyone to know that I didn't intend to hurt anybody, but I learned it's not my intent that matters. It's the result. And the result is people are offended, including Zendaya. And that is not okay.'
The apology video below..

Linda omo Ikeji

i don't understand why you are annoyed about something you don't understand

yes dear when a person feels insulted, they may insult you back.

whether they should is a different story entirely

I agree that G is NOT Joan. there are a lot of things that Basket mouth or Bovi can get away with, one because they are comics and two because they have a way about their delivery

if you on the other hand tried it-twitter would go ballistic on you

what i have garnered from the uproar is-it is the stereotype that is annoying black america not the weed comment

do goggle patchouli, please come back to let us know if that IS not a stereotype

G is white last time i checked and Zendaya is black (please feel free to claim her as your African sister)

and while Zendeya is 18, G is a grown ass woman, sometimes when you diss a person way younger than you -a person can come across like an agbaya

you may also google Paula Deen and Donald Sterling

also please watch movies like Selma,Roots, 12 years a slave, The Butler

maybe if you try to understand what blacks went through and what history has thought black Americans and what children like Zendaya identify with when they studied history in school...

maybe just maybe you would understand that a white american has no business stereotyping a black american;

they are also not permitted to say to black america anything that may be termed or perceived as a racist slur

you may also google the lyrics of the indie arie song-i am not my hair

or watch the documentary good hair by chris rock

if you need to be further enlightened

send Zendaya an email or any other black person that has called out G or that has stood behind Zendaya's comment

Apology accepted but here are my thoughts: if u are gonna be in the business of criticising other people, whether jokingly or not, you have gotta be near perfect yourself! Giuliana is the ugliest woman on TV! Now she's added a bad mouth? Ugggh! She need surgery! For her mouth too!

Like seriously what is the big deal it is fashion police and that is what makes the show interesting. Even her colleague Kelly who also was angry about the comment is not innocent herself cos she too has made comments about others on the show. So they should just let Giuliana be pls

Linda, while I get that you are also a media personality, I feel you are not as informed on this issue as you think you are.

She voiced her opinion, and it is only right for others to voice theirs. Moreover, for those who live in the states, they will be able to explain this better.
Cheers

G u don't go on an international show and make expensive jokes especially about people's appearances dat re racially related. As a TV icon u should know this. What if people made fun of based on ur appearance?

GBAM! Linda, if you like, don't post

Linda ikeji also talks anyhow! How can she see anything wrong with it

It's not that people don't want to move on, the problem is that some idiots here are now defending her saying she was right for making that comment and it is pudding people off so the issue keeps escalating. Can you imagine my dumb colleague facing me squarely to let me know that what rancid said was cool because.... In his exact words " you are addressed as you're dressed" and if zendaya didn't want to be confused for a weed smoker, she shouldn't have worn her hair in dreads. He said "If you're going to dress like like that then you should be ready to answer some questions and be ready to defend yourself" so nobody should be calling Julian racist. I wasn't talking to this guy before this o! this fool just suddenly started this conversation with me, I was just minding my own business o! I told him you can't prejudge people just because of how they look, prejudice could be a form of racism and nobody needs to explain anything to anyone else for looking s certain way. He then said for example, when you see someone with tattoos, you'll automatically think they've been to jail. That's how two of my other colleagues who are white but also have tattoos shut him up and reported him to HR for ambushing me in an inappropriate conversation that I was visibly uncomfortable in but I was just being civil and professional through. He was also reported for making offensive comments towards Rastafarians and people with tattoos. I didn't get all defensive because I didn't want to look like the black person with a chip on her shoulder. That was the exact reaction he wanted from me but it backfired, now the fool will know his fate by end of the week. Nonesense!!

Guliana talked about the dreads, saying that it smells. She didn't just talk about weed. Dreads is associated with people of colour and you have to be very careful when you make comments about them. From the way the girl that wore the dreads commented, Guliana made fun of her because she was wearing dreads, which is a coloured thing, making it racist.

She has spoken in a very mature way about the issue.

If you know your african american history then you would understand why people are so upset about what she has said!! Her mentioning weed was very stereotypical to how blacks in America are portrayed so you can blame people for linking it to racism. She doesn't have to mention skin colour or call her the N word before something can be racist. But she has apologised. People should leave her

linda you live in nigeria i know you are well travelled until you work and live in states you have no clue about racism

Unknown said...

Sweetie pls, Joan Rivers has said way worse and apart from that it's Zendaya that decided to take the race road abt family and the sort. I think it's just celebrities taking out their frustration on Guiliana because of the things fashion police has said abt them in the past esp Joan and since they can't take it out on Joan they faced Guiliana. There was nothing in that statement Guiliana said that deserved this big drama, let's learn as black people or people with colour to stop playing the victim and pulling out the race card everytime. If Martin Luther, Malcom X and the sorts had played that card there wouldn't be a black president in America today. Just saying

Wat is the problem? She made a grave mistake with her comment,n she has apologised, den why d insults and now d impending sack? We all offended God severally, and when we ask for forgiveness, He does forgive us. Like someone said, if it were Joan Rivers, would dia have been all dis hulabula? She said worse things in her life time.It seems like a conspiracy. May God help her. She should check herself too.

Linda, we are very liberal in this part of the world about racist comments. It's not so out there...i also advice you to start checking the way you talk about people...for example you keep saying things like "something wrong with Asians" be wise my sister, you are no more a local blog.

If I were in her shoes...I would just apologies and quietly resign to avoid further embarrassment.

Linda get a better understanding of race relations and its nuances in the US before making sweeping comments.
In Nigeria it's not racist but here it tinges on racism. And how many white ppl do U know with dreads? ( I know a few but I'm sure U don't). How many ppl do U even know with dreads. LoL. It's all good, U like in Lagos, U travel but till U live in someone else's shoes. Chill
