Linda, there is more poverty in GEJ regime. .. d poor are getting poorer and d rich are getting rich, money is not circulating at all, I wonder why my igbo brothers and sisters don't want the truth, dis man is causing more pains.let give someelse a chance.

Anonymous said...

So what is d govt doing to elevate them without costing them something they don't have in the process??

Anonymous said...

Not cool,I bet you the owner of the house/contractor didn't employ the kids...their parents (Who might be the labourers) put them there...They're probably sitting around somewhere gossiping.

Dave Mide said...

There should be a strict law banning all these! poverty need to be stricken out first though

Lynn dhorlene, true talk children so little shouldn't be doing that and ideally child labour should be discouraged.but on the other hand, in a society like ours where the government has failed it's people, isn't this an option out of begging on the streets and becoming future agents of mass destruction?

Well, yes, they shouldn't but do they have any choice? Some of d kids have no choice, their parents can't even feed them, muchless sending dem to school, whats d local and state govt doing to ease poverty? People are really suffering ,at least dey are not theieves or touts, kids like this become great in life cos dey believe in hardwork to be successful...i don't blame dem,see d ones selling gala n drinks in d road, or d ones that stalk u and even hold ur clothe till u give dem money

It is really horrible. Children no longer have or are allowed to enjoy their childhood but get sent out by irresponsible parents to go and earn a living and shoulder their responsibilities.

Regulatory Authorities in Nigeria should step up their game. Life is not all about waking up in the morning, going to the office to report 'present' and then waiting for month end to collect their stipends.

There are laws in Naija which state the minimum age for employing labour. Regulatory authorities should sit up and enforce this.

Linda thank you for opening their eyes to what they are paid to do. It looks like they have forgotten.

Its not and there is no excuse for this but what do you do when you got no job, no food no money no business and nobody to help.

Zoë said...

Abeg Linda, you are too emotional with everything, look at the little child, he is playing with the sand, maybe the older ones are assisting their mum, when I was young I love doing stuffs like this, when we were building our church, we all helped. If they are not been paid and they are not climbing delicate places, there is noting bad about what they are doing. In the states I mean the suburbs, young ones assist their father whenever he is remodeling the house. How about young mechanics, carpenters. Letz not be emotional with everything. Verify first before judging.

This old news, child labour is like a norm in Nigeria. One of the ways we can curtail it is by empowering and educating the parents of this children, follow them up and prosecute the parents or guardian who encourages the act.

I'm guessing that a healthy percentage of people that post on this site have some sort of income (be it from a job or from parents) coming in. We all do... Cos posting here means we (in the least) have a phone that allows access to internet data. We are the lucky few. A lot of these kids come from families where every single member of that family is doing some sort of odd job or another, but are still way below the poverty line (and a healthy Nigerian population fall into this category). I'm a construction project manager, and I see a whole lot of these kids on sites (and it breaks the heart)... But the truth is just that our economic system in this country is broken (and has been for the a few decades). And "child labor" is in no way anything new in Nigeria, it's just the very recent increase in social media that makes it real for a whole lot of people that have been oblivious to it. My hope is that we continue to use these medias to shine light on REAL issues like these (...and not on "who just bought his/her fifth Range Rover)

olu said...

Prosecute them?
Do you know what it's like when your parents are barely pulling in enough money to feed u?
With families pulling in a combined N30k a month (some less), how do u think they won't be forced to put their kids to work?
Prosecuting them is not the answer sir... Fixing the economy, then revamping the public school system and making them free would be a very good start.

Anonymous said...

Please shut up Linda.....how can you place that sort of headline....where is your statics? , what research arrived at this....do you know the govt can sue u...common, you have been doing this for years, how can you say this

#myopinioncounts# said...

Very disheartening

Chigo said...

Linda what do u expect, With the present condition of this our country? Should they starve to death bcos their parents couldnt hussle to feed them or may be their(parents) effort isn't just enough. Forget that God blesses our little effort, their are many that with all their efforts(i mean a hard one) they could not still provide adequate help to their families. This Country is not friendly at all!

Unknown said...

is it GEJ that sent them to work

Unknown said...

I don't want to believe this. I guess the kids are simply playing around with sand...but if not its quite unfortunate that this is happening under a parents watch. #sad
