MasterCard Provides Ultimate UEFA Champions League Experience to Nigerian Football Fans

(In support of Cashless Nigeria, MasterCard encourages Nigerians to make cashless transactions)

MasterCard continues to demonstrate its support of the Cashless Nigeria initiative by incentivising its cardholders to go cashless.  The most recent project launched to promote cashless payments is in celebration of MasterCard’s continued sponsorship of the UEFA Champions League, in which MasterCard cardholders can win the ultimate football fan viewing experience.

Eight hundred lucky MasterCard cardholders, with their partners, will win tickets to a UEFA Champions League Final 2012 Fan Viewing Experience, hosted by MasterCard on 19 May 2012 in Lagos. In addition, three lucky MasterCard cardholders will be chosen in a lucky draw to enjoy MasterCard hospitality at the UEFA finals event in Munich.

MasterCard cardholders in Nigeria simply need to use their payment cards to make a purchase by mid-May 2012 and they will automatically be entered into the competition.

The MasterCard Fan Viewing Experience will be an invitation-only event hosted in Lagos with a live feed of the UEFA Champions League Final 2012 from Munich. The 800 lucky MasterCard cardholder winners, along with their partners will be accompanied by Nigerian football legends and other VIP guests.

“In support of the Cashless Nigeria project initiated by the Nigerian Central Bank, MasterCard is incentivising our cardholders to transact with their MasterCard cards to stand a chance of winning great prizes. Our sponsorship of one of the world’s leading football tournaments allows us to bring the game to the very passionate football fans of Nigeria and simultaneously offer a payments platform which is convenient, safe and secure,” says Omokehinde Ojomuyide, Country Manager, West Africa, MasterCard Worldwide.

Ojomuyide points out that while the competition is only open to MasterCard cardholders, Nigerians who do not at present hold MasterCard payment cards, can request one from participating banks. Once their cards have been issued, new cardholders can ensure their entry into the competition by making at least one purchase using their card before the closing date of the competition.

“We are excited by our sponsorship of the UEFA Champions League and look forward to bringing our MasterCard cardholders the best possible football experience.  The initiative is an exclusive on the continent with Nigeria being the only market to which MasterCard has opened the competition,” concluded Ojomuyide.

The competition ends mid-May 2012, with the 800 winners being notified by MasterCard, and is open to all MasterCard cardholders from participating Nigerian banks.  Terms and conditions apply.
