Omotola calls out FG and Lagos govt for not reacting to UNILAG student's death..people react!

The actress took to her twitter yesterday to call out the Federal and Lagos state government for not reacting to the electrocution of University of Lagos student, Oluchi Anekwe on September 8th. Some Nigerians weren't happy that she copied international media houses CNN and Times magazine in her tweets and responded. I agree with her though! See their tweets after the cut...

How many Nigerian students die everyday. What about that poor gal that died from a fire inferno...it's a long list. If PMB pre occupies himself with making thousands of statements everyday to this effect, we will still be the first to name him RIP president. Haba

Calling out the president on this matter is a shame on Omotola and doubt on her level of intelligence.

She speaks d truth but she goofed by copying foreign media, and for those who say govt need not issue a statement cos d deaths are frequent, govt usually issues a general statement for a random or massacre/genocide. Since this is specific and from a federal property/school, a statement is imminent.

Omotola! U are an actress, use ur common sense judge this matter and don't be sentimental. The Presidency should not be tossed around like a maid. Too bad a life was lost. But turn the table around, how many people have access to you, how many tweets or messages do you respond to? The president can't be everywhere.

To say the least, you CC international bodies, so they can flog our president abi? Do you know how many people who die per second in America? I guess Obama has an automated sympathy letter he writes to everyone. The fact that the presidency is willing to hear and be available to everyone all in the name of democracy, does not mean we all should not do our part.
You are a Nigerian, send a sympathy note on behalf of the president, perhaps you could be considered for a political position someday! Keep at it MRS sexy!

I sincerely believe Omotola should have shown more maturity as regards this comment. So only Lagos is her Nigeria? What of the four women that were found dead in Anambra State? What of the accident that claimed lives along Oturkpo-Enugu expressway? The University is a government on its own and must take responsibility. Thats how to build and develop the so called 'strong' institutions. Yes the govts later.

This is the problem with not having a minister of Education. This sad events falls under the jurisdiction of the Fed government, the state government has a moral obligation to have addressed this situation also and they should have. Copying CNN and TIME clearly proves this was no sincere advocacy for a genuine cause. Mrs Ekeinde was definitely more interested in selling herself not minding how far under she ends up throwing her country and its leadership. No surprises there at all, after all same international media has the dubious distinction of picking and choosing (from afar) for us Africans who amongst us is worthy of recognition and high praise. Their propaganda says she's an uncommon breed, so of course she must show loyalty!

Though her intentions are good, Omotola should get her facts straight. A president or Gov does not comment on every incident. If it was a terrorist attack, then it's a federal issue. Omosexy is a silent activist, every one making a statement against her do so because, they are not connected to the dead student and they think like cattles and aliens. How do you even reason? Asking if he will make a statement on every single death in the country. When your children leave home to Uni, the Uni has some responsibility towards the students. The state governmement has a part to play and the Federal government can step in.
The Chibok girls would have been swept under the rug, if not for media intervention!

One can only use social media to right the wrongs. In my own opinion, i don't see anything bad in alerting the whole world that our govt/leaders are careless about their people.
If a student is electrocuted (dead) in the school, it will not make news but if a senator is involved in a motor accident (still alive) it will make news and people will be calling the senator for selfish interest. Now tell me whose life is superior to the other?
We have to at all times, use the social media wisely to expose the evil that abound in this nation at all level.
Pls don't continue to die in silence. Speak Out.

what about GEJ days... Omotola stood with the few artists who didn't dance "skelewu" with politicians.

Why are y'll being so sentimental?
Not like this was some random death, this girl was a first class material in a FEDERAL university,
she didn't die under normal circumstances, she died as a result of failure to monitor and maintain facilities in/around the school campus. Her death can't be likened to that of a student who slept under normal circumstance and failed to wake up in the morning (died of natural cause).
The president may not owe her a condolence message but the school and the ministry of education should have been sensitive enough to issue one.

Pple shld think b4 writing.

Who and who Omotola copied her expression is not the issue here. She has made her point, and it is clear enough. Hiding our errors in this country has kept us far behind development. We do not want the world to know our weaknesses, and yet we want to know what happened in USA. Is it not an irony?

Just tell me how we shall express our condolence to Anekwe's family or to Unilag community or friends and classmates of late Miss Oluchi Anekwe? She was a first class grade in Accountancy Department of Unilag, and was dreaming of coming out with the first class colours next year, but that is gone, and will be forgotten soon, for no faults of hers.

The authority of Unilag should immortalize her name as a scholar we have lost. She could have been the female president Nigerians are looking for in the future. The new scholar hostel under construction can be named after the late girl to keep the name alife in our mind. We loved her, and have now lost her.
