Photos: Police officers eviction from residence at Police College, Ikeja

A LIB reader who is a police officer sent in the photos and writes;
I'm a Police Officer serving in Lagos and a victim of what follows. 23 days to the start of national elections and 58 police officers with their families are about to be thrown out on the streets!
An order to this effect - that the police officers vacate their temporary place of abode latest Monday 9th of March 2015-,  was given by the Commandant of Police College Ikeja, CP Tunde Sobulo at a meeting he had with the officers on Thursday, 5th of March.
It will be recalled that National dailies like The Punch newspaper, Daily Independent and Leadership Newspaper ran stories on the 5th of March about the miserable plight of these officers who dwell in highly unsanitary and crowded hostels despite the completion of renovation work begun on their houses in September 2014.

That this eviction only affects residents of Band Block 1 & 2 -quarters meant for junior officers-, whereas the entire College was renovated is telling.

This injustice is made worse by the fact that despite not residing in their houses for the last six months, these officers have had rent ranging from 6,000-22,000 Naira deducted monthly from their salaries.

It is disheartening that a cry for justice and improved living conditions is being met by such retrogressive action. That people in service of their nation will be treated as such does not bode well for the morale of our service men.
How can the police protect our lives and properties when their properties are on the streets and their families have no place to stay? Well meaning Nigerians, please help.

P.s. the pictures show the renovated building and properties littering the environment in various state of decay. These properties were covered with tapolin and have been in the open air since September and most are now damaged.

Though pathetic, "The chicken must always come home to Roost". This is Cops vs Cops issue n any outside interference will be met with Accidental Discharge.

THis is the face of disorderliness and lack of structure. I believe the concerned parties ought to write to appropriate quarters in the police and even the print media, it certain someone isn't doing his job here.

That looks like okesuna barracks at Island close to Obalende. These barracks are not well taken care off. Federal government pls investigate how money allocated for the upkeep of these barracks are used. Living conditions for these officers are terrible.

Shalom in Nigeria, Amen.

Anonymous said...

Mumu, is it Fashola that is paying their salaries?

Anonymous said...

Correct good GEJ taking care of the police. He hehehe You all can move into patience kitchen Hehehe. Bad government and that Mercy Johnson was busy advertising for GEJ after staying 6 months in America enjoying while policemen have no where to sleep. May theives way lay you on your train when policemen strike. Nonsense. collect money and clean mouth Nigerians while you ride in your range rover Mschewww

This is unfair. How do they expect an officer in this situation to discharge his duties properly. Something needs to be done about this.

Anonymous said...

C'mon Angela! Don't let us be blind by hate, religion, tribe or zone. Being truthful to ourselves will go a long way to help dis country grow... Our future is wat we are politicking with dear. Ordinarily yu shud knw dis is a Federal Govt issue. "It is Nigeria Police Force & not Lagos Police Force". So it shud be directed to the IG, AiG, Minister for Military and Defence and lastly our able President ma. Thanks #aBetterNigeria

This has nothing to do with Fashola. The Federal government is in charge of the police force not Fashola. people should learn to criticize properly.

Madam, this is a public platform . Pretend to be a bit educated. Fashola is not responsible for the "Nigerian" police. Federal govt is. And Jonathan is the Federal govt. You're welcome.

@Linda... since u been voyed one of the most powerful media peepz in Africa, YOU have to take this issue up... bcos if the Police are not happy then we the civilians are in serious insecure trouble.

smh - soon PDP supporters will say this is organized by APC. WHEN PDP ACTUALLY SQUANDERED POLICE PENSION WHAT ELSE DO YOU EXPECT???

Lol - BUHARI has made a man out of GEJ; because of Buhari, GEJ is attempting to do in 6 weeks what he couldn't do in 6 months. Imagine if GEJ had worked like this for the past 6 years, Nigeria would have been one of the best countries to live in. So after election he will go back to allowing BH kill our people, and all???

Absolutely unfair and disgrace. I hope dis type of tin wil b sorted out amicably if not dis wil dent our national imagine.

The police men called in the press to publicize the insanitary condition of their living quarters. Consequently the authorities decided to renovate the quarters which the police men need to vacate for that purpose. So why are the police men complaining again? By their tendentious act of going to the press, they risk losing their jobs. Security operatives all over the world do not take their issues to the public domain. Nigerians must endeavor to abide by the ethics, rules and regulations of their chosen professions. Trade union mentality must not be allowed in the Nigerian Police Force

Anonymous said...

Errr...you do know Nigerian Police are under the Jurisdiction of the FG, so not sure what Fashola has to do with this.

i feel bad when nigerians insult the police. do you think anybody is happy to work as a nigerian police. the answer is NO. If the welfare of the police is not being looked into am sorry to say this but more harm will be done in the society, as much as we think de are not working the bad guys dont think so. be a good nigerian and think as if the police man is your family as well. pls the Government should look into this problem. angela akadakpo - your comment shows how little you know about your country. Nigeria Police Force is not under the state, they are under the Federal.

iTS A SHAME THIS IS HAPPENING. BUT WHEN INJUSTICES AND CORRUPTION REIGNS SUPREME IN A NATION EVEN THOSE THAT ARE MEANT TO UPHOLD THE LAW GET BITTEN BY IT. IM SORRY THIS IS HAPPENING BUT ITS A CHAIN REACTION THAT WILL KEEP REVOLVING UNLESS MEN LIKE YOU OFFICER DECIDE TO UPHOLD JUSTICE FOR ORDINARY CITIZENS NOT CONNIVING WITH WHO DROPS THE HIGHEST.
