When asked to clarify his statement "Stealing is not corruption" during the presidential media chat yesterday evening, president Jonathan said he made the statement quoting the former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Dahiru Mustafa, who explained to him that his analysis of corruption cases in Nigeria showed that most of the cases tagged as corruption were theft. President Jonathan said that referring to stealing as corruption minimizes the crime.
"Ole (thief in Yoruba) should be called Ole and given that treatment. Let us communicate properly. The word corruption, we have abused it." GEJ said.

Not satisfied with President Jonathan's response, Prof Osinbajo took to his Facebook wall to react.

This una Jona sef! We are not talking about a man stealing a goat or other such things. We are concerned with people stealing government money. It is not just lying there so you can pick it. You will need to,for example, make false declarations etc. manipulate documents-that is corruption! YOU CAN'T STEAL GOVERNMENT MONEY WITHOUT BEING CORRUPT. I don't know why Jona thinks he needs to justify such a thing.

Prof Osinbanjo, u try, but we understand the President very well, and so I agree with him, stealing is not corruption. We just use the term wrongly.

Osinbajo should keep his mouth shut. Jonathan made a salient point and he was right and on point. Stealing carries a weightier meaning than corruption which was what Jonathan meant. must APC talk and castigate everytime. they are pissing me off. Jonathan simply meant than people should not cover up stealing with the word corruption which no longer means anything to Nigerians. calling somebody a theif still caries more weight.

It is a pity that most Nigerians have been so blinded by sentiments that they can no longer think rationally. Everyone is entitled to His/her opinion and so does the president. Deep within we all know there is a difference between stealing(#OLEING) and corruption, when you steal meat from a pot you are a THEIF when you use your neighbors wifi without authorization, you are a THEIF,etc and to Oga Prof. Osinbajo you really should not condemn anyone, for who are you to judge.
