This entirely private affair is part of a series of
activities leading up to the November 2014 premiere of the movie, and was awash
with VIP guests, including the crème de la crème of the Lagos business
community.
Directed and produced by the celebrated film maker, Steve Gukas, A Place in the
Stars is a riveting voyage into the dark under-world of fake drugs trafficking
and of the harrowing consequences to the most vulnerable members of society.
Set in 2006 Nigeria, A Place in the Stars tells the story of Kim Dakim (Gideon Okeke), a young lawyer with a case and a client that leave him professionally conflicted. Kim is in possession of information that could save scores, if he would only pass it on. Faced with the deathly consequences of crossing 'industry' kingpins, including the toughest of them all, Diokpa Okonwo (Segun Arinze); and with millions to earn if he would only turn a blind eye, Kim battles conscience and professional responsibility as he determines which way to turn.
Also starring in the movie are Dejumo Lewis, Yemi Blaq, Femi Branch, Matilda Obaseki, Julian Mcdowell, Armajit Deu and Amaka Mgbor.
From the story treatment to screenplay, costume to production design, A Place in the Stars, together with it's crop of A-list cast, is in a class of its own - for movie magical experience.
The
movie will be out in cinemas across Nigeria on the 14th of November
2014.

Nigerians don't know anything about film making. They are too much in a hurry. If I have the opportunity, I will shoot all the people who are leading Nigeria astray starting from those at the government houses. In my view, our movies ought to be veritable opportunity to tell the world our stories, to influence people everywhere with our culture...For the past days, my wife and I were just watching and reading everything we could get on the background of the South Korea Film Industry and we were marvelled about how a people were determined to use their culture to change the world. Nigeria film industry is the worst in the world! There is no regulation…Films are produced within a week! Everywhere you see people parading themselves as actors, directors and producers! What nonsense! When did Dora Akunyili die for a film to have been completed on her memory? Why don’t we take time to tell our stories? Eh!
Nigeria is a country with the worst movie makers...Won't it be better if we take out time to perfect the trade???

Its very easy to sit down with your wife and insult others when you can't show anything you have done better than the ones already done. A PLACE IN THE STARS has been 7 years in the making. I am one of the many crew members who started on the project. Its a film that has gulled more than $1 MILLION DOLLARS. Do your research before you criticise.

I was just wondering if it's nit too early to make a good and complete movie about this great lady?. I mean to make a worthy scenario, pick the RIGHT and fitting actors, stage the set and shoot the movie. Plus all the other required necessities in terms of materials and activities.
I'm not in the movie industry, so i wouldn't know; i was just wondering.

Authenticity is not a crime ladies and gentlemen. There's so much shame in imitation which nollywood just doesn't get.
The worst thing in art is imitation. The producers and writer or whoever should be ashamed after getting the title of the movie from hollywood.

Ochuko, please practice what you preach, patience and do your research well. I'm not a Nollywood fan, but there are exceptional movies out there, as well as actors, producers and directors. Never generalise , give your people some credit. And since you don't know apparently, let me enlighten you a bit, the movie was made long before Dora died, it was sought of made a tribute to her because most of the story line was about the cause she fought for when she was the NAFDAC boss. The movie is one of the very good Nollywood films, brilliant work all round. Please it is not a movie about Dora's life and death....Kapish!!

Film making have a lot to say about the image and developemt of a nation as well as how serious we are as a people. I stand a better chance to criticize because I am one of many Nigerians who watch your movies. And I say you guys have a very long way to go. Consider the energy that is put into such South korean films like Shiri, My Sassy Girl, JSA (Joint Security Area), Silmido, Taegukgi, A Tale of Two Sisters, Jumong, Gwanggaeto, The Great Conqueror etc. It is unfortunate that you are in a country where people are ready and willing to consume every nonsense you guys are dishing out. A certain Nigerian producer once bragged that he produced the part 1-4 of a full length movie within three days…What is this!
