Covenant University's very strict dress code: Bans jeans, high heels, face caps etc

Covenant University, which is a private Christian University owned by Living Faith Church founded by Bishop David Oyedepo, recently released their student handbook (2013/2017) find it HERE. In it, the school listed a number of clothing items not allowed within the school premises. They banned practically everything. Lol. No jeans, no short skirts, no pencil skirt, no sleeveless top, no high heels, no body hugging top/dress, minimal make-up, no face cap, no painting of nails etc.. choi! Hehe

Some students of the university are complaining about the strict dress code but then you had other options and you chose Covenant...so why complain? See the University's dress code for female and male students after the cut

No matter how crazy ur kid is, d sch has a way of reshaping their lives. I finished frm igbinedion and my kid Bro frm covenant and trust me d diff is crystal clear. I also have lots of family friends dat finished frm covenant and dey r all sooo level headed. Covenant students stand out anytime any day.

This has been on since like foreva, why did it become a story today, some of us have passed through this institution and made d best out of it. If u dnt feel like it don't attend the school, fine there r rules on drescode but there is no rule that states that you must attend CU. it's a training ground anyday anytime. Dnt just criticize cos u c others do so. The school has done no one wrong, so why do we drink panadol over it. Life is a choice, choose where u want to study. Thanks.

If you attend LFC, u would knw that; "as a proper winner u must belong to a service unit, and if u belong to a unit, these dress codes apply". Its easier to control people under ur authority than those in church. Sinners are welcome in the house of the lord.... Church is totally different frm skool. I I attended UnICAL, in my skool, sleeveless was banned, too short skirt or short was banned too... U were it, u get sent away @ d gate or wherever u were seen.

if you go to covenant university and you want to side step these rules please comment and I will painstakingly write a student guide for that. honestly this is total bullshit and an infringement of your rights. (Nigerians should start taking their rights seriously)
P.S. if you are about to say something negative in regards to this comment, cap it.

Oyedepo is brilliant, both as a preacher and businessman.
The whole thing about ultra-conservative dress-code is about marketing; it makes good business sense, however hogwash, banal, trifling and hypocritical.
It's a make-believe gambit, and gullible, money-miss-road parents are falling over it and over themselves to have their wards admitted into Oyedepo's university.
My analysis is that the school is simply trying to project an image of seriousness and discipline. It's a PR thing.
How else may Nigerian parents, who permanently see their children as kids even at 40, be bought over without selling the card of seriousness and discipline as the values a school represent?
Look well, though, it's all a veneer, and one seductive to parents, just as much as shielding off, as it were, all of CU's inadequacies from prying eyes.
Make no mistake, many foolish parents will conclude CU to be the best just on the strength and myth of the dress-code idea.
The problem, however, is: Oyedepo is running his university like a secondary school and not a university...
CU is being run like an ideal secondary school!!!!
HOWEVER, OPENNESS, UNIVERSALISM, FREEDOM, BOTH ACADEMIC AND OTHERWISE, LIBERALISM, AUTHENTICITY, IDEALISM, ALL OF WHICH COMBINE TO KILL AND BURY CONSERVATISM, FORM THE DRIVING PRINCIPLES OF A UNIVERSITY WORTH THE NAME.
A true university does not set borders or limits on investigation or on the the human potential for authentic, kaleidoscopic being-hood.
For a university worth the name, anything and everything, in so far as it represents an idea is welcomed in an open atmosphere of constant debate.
In a university, reason alone, not religion, not just the Bible or Koran or Bhagavad Gita, constitute the final arbiter.
The successes of the University as a human institution, as the harbinger of science, philosophy and art owe its being to pure reliance on man's highest faculty, REASON.
No-go areas don't exist for a university worth the name. Even God as a concept and possible being is not beyond query or bold interrogation in a university worth the name.
Only open societies and institutions remain the hope of humanity for advancement, scientific and cultural breakthroughs, because conservationism stifles man's imagination and creative potential.
A TRUE UNIVERSITY DOES EVERYTHING IN THE NAME AND SPIRIT OF LIBERALISM, WARTS AND ALL!!!!
Hope somebody reading me understands.

SIMPLYCOCK said...

I am an AKOKITE..
E NO EASY...
IF E EASY, GO AND WRITE JAMB AND CHOOSE UNIVERSITY OF LAGOS!
And I am cool...
I'm proud, handsome, stylish, sexy, comfortable...
How dare you set a dress-code in a university?
Leave that to religion please...
That's not the job of a university worthy of the name.
A university's job is well cut out: build the reasoning power of the students to fever, cutting edge pitch and leave them to pursue their interests and to make their own choices in taste, style, predilections, aspirations, values, etc...
Our world is richer for it....

I think everyone should just transfer to other schools. This is a simple case of psychology. If you hold something back from a child, once it finally becomes accessible, that child is bound to go crazy! After going to boarding school with it's restrictions, you expect students to now enter university, a space where they are meant to discover themselves, and have a whole new set of boarding school rules for another four years. There is almost no way in hell that those students would not become crazy on their first taste of freedom. Think of how many of your friends, yourself included, who got afros after boarding school.

Boycott!

Anonymous said...

Nice1!Setting standards i guess..

This is a good one, it is not by force. if you don't like the Dress code you can as well go to any state or federal university where you can dress any how.
Thanks for the Management and God bless you all

Anonymous said...

Y are you all complaining, besides this rules don't have so much difference on the previous ones. and if you are not ok wit d rules, y go dere in d first place. afterwards, anywia u go to n dey ask u for d name of ur institutn, u proudly say CU.well am proud to be an EAGLE n i don't see anything wrong in the rules cz u were nt forced in d first place. MAY GOD BLESS PAPA AND THE MANAGEMENT.

Anonymous said...

I usually don't post comments on here but I actually attended that school. I complained like everyone cos I was ignorant. Its a fantastic place and I will tell you why....I am 27, work in a fantastic place with a top management role (believe it or not), just got married and I am not from a rich home. The school places you in a better position than your peers, teaches you not to only rely on a paid job but also plan to be an employer. which govt institute teaches this? you get to learn after school sometimes the hard way but we learnt this earlier in life.
Rules are rules, but they are hard now but you enjoy in future. isn't it worth the cost?

Anonymous said...

Linda... CU rules suck quite alright, but it does not mean we don't have fashion sense. we cover up and anybody would see we are fashion forward. Visit on a sunday and SEE things.
