According to Ojabo, the investigation would centre on funds appropriated for the power sector since 1999 and the unbundling of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN.
He said:
“ It is expected that all those who played key roles in the power sector since 1999, including ministers and heads of government departments and parastatals, will appear before the panel.”It will be recalled that Senate President, Bukola Saraki, had last month announced a 13-man ad hoc committee to carry out a holistic investigation into the management of funds appropriated to the power sector from the Olusegun Obasanjo civilian administration to date.
The committee, which has Senator Abubakar Kyari, (APC Borno North) as chairman, was given the responsibility of looking into irregularities in the unbundling of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN and to also probe how the Obasanjo, Umaru Yar‘Adua and Jonathan administrations managed funds allocated to the sector.
The committee was charged with the task of looking into the entire power value chain including generation, transmission and distribution with a view to identifying what the problems in the sector are.
Saraki, who noted at the inauguration of the committee three weeks ago, that the task before the panel is huge, had however, frowned at the continued absence of regular supply of electricity despite the country’s huge investments in the sector.
Kyari, in his remarks during the inauguration, detailed the nature of the investigation his committee is saddled with, saying, “ To have a close look at the entire power value chain (generation, transmission and distribution) calls for a review of our policies in order to obtain optimum performances across the board.
According to him, “the abysmal performance of the generation segment is no longer news in view of the current deteriorating power supply which hovers around 4,600MW for a population of over 170 million people, despite the huge resources committed into it.

Its a welcomed development, with the spate of these probes, public servants will be mindful of the way they carry out their responsibilities.

We want to believe it's real.. not just cajoling. Matt 7:8
This Senate lacks direction. It's like they have forgotten the what brought them to the Senate. Who is probing who? When more than half of them are thieves themselves

Obasanjo will not like this. Hope they are just looking for money because I heard they are broke. Come to think of it, all we this days is probe, probe, probe.....
All their focus is on GEJ govt we know. But guess what, we gat ur back bro. Engr Emy

Who or what are the senate after or better still what do they intend to achieve? I can see that the so called probe into the power sector at this point in time is not in good faith, knowing fully well that PMB has got briefing from that sector with the intention to take a decisive step to address whatever constituted the bottleneck in the sector.
I hope this will not be another jamboree like the House of Rep's Elumelu committee.
We shall wait for what become outcome of this one too
Interesting.. They should also kindly probe the PTF as in when Buhari was PTF chairman and how those funds were utilised for the betterment of all Nigerians. It will be unfair to just probe Obasanjo, Yaradua. And Jonathan. Even the ex military heads of states should be probed.
I pray and hope that one day nigeria will be free of dark misruled leaders..
They should also kindly probe PTF under Buhari chairmanship and tell us how those funds were used for the betterment of Nigerians. They should also probe all ex military heads of state. It will be unfair to probe only Yaraduwa,Obasanjo and Jonathan only.
They should be probed, they are thieves. It's over 4 years we had electricity in my area. We use generator 24hours a day. All activities are paralysed just because of this power issue. Linda, the extreme end of Ibeju-Lekki has been in black out for the past 4 years and nothing has been done. You could imagine a child born 4 years ago, knows nothing about PHCN light except generator light.

Another jamboree? Please save us ur noise
Since 1999 huh? They had better start probing babangida too
The dead yaradua?
Na today?
Egyptian Billionaire is offering to buy an Island for Refugees
Panel upon panel.....I wonder when we'll start getting results. If this was an olosho case, yahoo boi issue or pick-pocketing matter, the judgement would av been very fast..... But in dis case and every other cases like terrorism, embezzlement E.t.c.....we might have to wait till His kingdom come...... And since yara'dua is involved, the dead might have to be the one to carry the living's cross.....the great Obasanjo himself ..... I hail that ebora owu.....cos the person wey go question am sef get case to answer before him.
I hope their findings will solve the current redundant crisis in the power sector.
Nayna Esion, yes is possible nd this is very good. Nobody will go freely for stealing public funds in Nigeria.
And if Yar'Adua is found guilty what will happen? Lemme guess....they'll go dig him up? Laughable.
HARRYSONG, oya, help me here bro
*singing*
Monkey dey work dey feed baboon
Baboon, Baboon
If you talk you seal your doom
Your doom, your doom
I just dey see money dey waste
Dey waste, dey waste
Ds country o fall my hand i-o ah ha!!!
Well, I am not surprised. The Senate started on a wrong note by fighting tooth and nail over positions and now they want to embark on a more uncordinated move to chasing ghost. All is charade, who dash monkey banana, to include OBJ and a dead man in the list. Nothing will happen at the end of the day or some will lose either their positions or money, quote me.
Linda pls take note of this. We the residence of Satellite Town in Oriade Local Govt area have been suffering serious interrupted power supply for several years and now that EKO Distribution have increased supply of light in most places we are yet to praise NEPA OR EKO Distribution because our here is a night mere.
Thank you and God bless.
God bless Nigeria
