Gov Rotimi Amaechi insults Nollywood practitioners to their faces, says they are products of circumstances

This would have been funny if it wasn't pathetic. According to a few Nollywood practitioners who were present at the Best of Nollywood Awards, which held last night in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, the governor of the state Rotimi Amaechi practically insulted Nollywood practitioners to their faces.

According to a source who reached out to LIB, during his speech at the award after he gave veteran actress Liz Benson a Lifetime Achievement Award, Governor Rotimi said that people in Nollywood are products of circumstances/necessity. He said that the only reason they are in Nollywood is because they couldn't find other jobs, that if they had, they won't be actors. Rotimi said these actors studied sciences, law, medicine etc but because they couldn't find jobs, they embraced Nollywood.

Present when he said this were Nollywood veterans including Liz Benson, Kenneth Okonkwo, Shola Sobowale, Desmond Elliot, Moses Inwang, Dickson Iroegbu, Bob-manuel Udokwu, Patience Ozokwor, Elvis Chuks, AY, Iyabo Ojo, Emem Isong and many others.

Governor Rotimi also put two veteran actresses on blast. He told the crowd that he gives Joke Silva and Kate Henshaw bags of money whenever they come to Rivers state. And then claimed he was the one who encouraged Kate Henshaw to go into politics.

Like that wasn't enough, Governor Amaechi then said he went into politics for money.

Some of the Nollywood practitioners are angry about what the governor said and have asked the AGN to make sure it doesn't happen again.

I wonder why people are angry with him. He spoke the truth. When I was young every parents want their children to be doctors lawyers and engineers, non want to be a theatre actress. Yes the world has changed and people from various discipline are now in the profession, but truthfully, can any of our lawyers, doctors, engineers in Nollywood today went in as a choice or circumstances. How many of them are able to pay their medical bills without coming to the public begging for money. Loads of the veterans died leaving nothing behind. LET US NOT DECEIVE OURSELVES, GOV AMAECHI SPOKE THE TRUTH AS ALWAYS, TRUTH IS BITTER.

Let's look@it from another angle. I think he was tryna diss the government by saying the government can't provide jobs for graduates that's why many who read courses other than Theatre Arts delve into movies. Saying he dishes out money to those actresses doesn't make it look as bad as we see it cos he must have been listing his achievements. And why would they collect money if they don't expect it to be heard? You know ppl will always misinterpret an issue especially when it doesn't appeal to them. But behind all he said,i made sense outta it.

Not sure the story is true and if it is, it's a shame about joke silva, really liked her personality , not bothered about Kate henshaw. Dude even called himself a thief that he is into politics for the money issshhh and pathetic . EFCC won't be found here but be chasing domestic crime

We understand, I think it's a calculated attempt to make him feel the heat and hatred of being misconstrued. Now Nollywood, AGN and fans of actors mentioned will hate him and indirectly his party affiliation.

So there are no actors that really wanted to be actors? What about those that went to study to be actors?Honestly not the kind of things expected to be coming out of a Governor's mouth. Giving out bags of money to actresses, can you imagine? That's some reckless drunkard talk, even tho some of it is the bitter truth, its still reckless. Smh!!!

Hello Mr, politics all over the world is been run by people from different academic fields. I doubt if you know Obama and putin and many others studied Law. Mohamed Morsi of Egypt read material science, Angela Merkel of Germany read quantum chemistry. Stop been blinded but hate before you make mockery of your ignorance

The Governor Did not Insult anybody Directly or indirectly, and he did not say anytin about Bag of Money. He Said Most People in Nollywood and other Sectors including the Banks and Politics are Products of Necessity as Unemployment is a Major Problem in Our Country today, he said some Companies Do not hire d Most Qualified Persons, they hire based on Connections and Sometimes Physical Appearance (beauty, i.e Banks), and when People who are Qualified can't get Employment in their Desired field they go for the Alternatives, He Thanked Nollywood for Creating Employment for Thousands of People and Encouraged them to More. it is only a Sadist that will Call this An Insult.

He was wrong anyway when he said Nollywood stars studied other courses but ended up in Nollywood cos most of them are illiterates

Linda are u sure of this information?

So medical doctors going into politics is wrong? We should leave politics 4 political scientists? How many musicians studied music? So u and Amechi have not have about talent and passion?

Anonymous said...

He should have told them to step up their acts and stop celebrating mediocrity. That is what Nigerians have told them overtime but they seem to not have heard.

Anonymous said...

Who should be in government if not a lawyer? In fact every citizen of the country can be in Politocs.

Anonymous said...

Every citizen has the right to vote and be voted

JNA$$ said...

You can be dumb sometimes. Who runs the politics in western world? Stark illiterates? Words should always be season. The governor can be a parrot. Wise ones speak less.

Some truth are not good to say. However, he forgot to mention Omotola, another well-known beneficiary of his largesses in terms of money and other gifts.

Anyway, one wonders whose money our governor has been dishing out to these nollywood females; his money or the state's money? Still, we appreciate the fact that he has tried for our dear state.

Linda, it would be nice to produce a full transcript of what the Governor said, unedited, just to clear the air.

Amaechi said the truth. At least, he didn`t come out and call them prostitutes as some governors spread tales about them. He mentioned he gives them money so that they can produce movies and employ people.

Anonymous said...

Help me tell that accidental governor. Because him no get career, him feel sey other people no get career too. If him get career, why him dey struggle to die in power.

Anonymous said...

The Amaechi guy only exhibits the character of an imbecile all the time. Trying to insult every dick and harry. This is not the first time he is doing such

Yess oo. But the giving bags of money revelation was a bit snitchy

Fucking ameachi is like fucking anything that walks. Shame on you!LMFAO!!!!!!!

I think u are right. I myself did not find anything insulting in the gov's speech. The problem of our people is not being able to transcend to deeper levels. Even the Press is fond of this. Today, Politics has become a career simply because that is where u can make the quickest money not because of any ideological convictions. One can also say that our "Politicians" are people of circumstance.

Anonymous said...

ou sure your source is not a politician from an opposition party. Even a madman call to give an award, will not turn and insult everybody present and the indict himself by saying he "gives bags of money" to people

Anonymous said...

Abeg if they really don't like it, let them call him out. Cowards. I do find it amusing that he admits that he got into politics for his own financial gain. LoL. Ole.
As for his comments, I don't know if it's true but there are a lot of Nollywood actors who studied acting in school. So what abt them?

Unknown said...

Quite agree with u . is just dt amaechi has a bad way of saying things

Anonymous said...

Really??? Owing Corpers??? Plus d bad state of roads in PH? Yet he has time for all dis??? So much for governance!
