A
Nigerian warplane crashed in Niger
today Monday May 6th, from where it was
conducting military operations in neighbouring Mali, and the two pilots
were killed, Nigeria's army said in a statement.
The fighter
jet was part of Nigeria's air fleet engaged with an African force
battling hardline Islamists in Mali. An army source in Niamey said it
had suffered a "mechanical" problem.
"A Nigerian Air Force Alpha jet aircraft on a non-combattant mission
crashed today at Dargol village...The two pilots on board the fighter
jet died," the Nigerian defence headquarters said in a statement.
The jet is one of four Nigerian aircraft based in Niamey as part of of
the Africa-led International Support Mission to Mali (AFISMA), it said,
adding that the crash was being investigated.
French and Chadian planes and US drones have used the Niamey airport as a base for their operations in Mali.
The 6,000-strong AFISMA has taken over the lead from France in
supporting Mali's army in the battle against Al-Qaeda-linked extremists.
A French-led operation launched in January drove the Islamists from key
cities they had seized in northern Mali. But the Islamists have turned
to suicide bombings and guerrilla attacks in reclaimed territory.
AFISMA will eventually be incorporated into a 12,600-strong
peacekeeping force, following a UN resolution in April.

"We're entering uncharted territory in terms of how we've had to take maintenance cuts and make adjustments to mitigate the most serious impacts," Hostage said. "Remaining as mission-ready as possible for combatant commanders is our priority, and we're prioritizing spending to ensure this imperative is met."
Awww....so sorry, may their souls rest in peace, but this death is an avoidable one, thought they used to hve a way for emergency exist in ds kinda war plane?....#Ajyrow

Hmmmm, my country wat is happening again oooO? Anyway, I can only say weldon to GEJ.
#sad...There's just something fundamentally wrong with our Aviation industry and the government really needs to look into it,they can't keep ignoring the fact that most airlines that fly in Nigeria are not mechanically and technically sound.RIP to the pilots who lost their lives
Pretty Girl

Oga, the military is not under the aviation ministry na...
It's irritating to keep reading comments referring to d "aviation industry" or "aviation ministry" when the issue corncerns d military. Please stop showcasing your ignorance here. Just write ur condolences and let that be all.
Thank me later.
Didn't know we even had fighter jets. Rest in peace.
Nigerian airforce...chai
How can they give minister of aviation to a woman who cannot even know what it means to drive a plane, talkless of know the meaning of air safety. They need to take that title off her and give it to people like Omotola's husband who knows what it means.
May their souls RIP. Yet can't help but wonder what normal person would fly a Nigerian warplane knowing literally everything owned by Nigerian gov are mismanaged. God help us all.

hmmm so dere no emergency parachute or were 2 guys involved nt properly educated on hw 2 use em?????
*may dia souls R.I.P.P
Sometimes I just get tired of nigeria why won't they die when d jet is outdated, modern fighter jet hav emergency eject which would hav saved the live of the two pilot but no naija go de use aloku plane.........smh
May their soul's RIP.
Amen
Fighter jets in modern countries have ejector seats so the pilot can escape seconds before the crash and land with a parachute thereafter.
I believe NN jets are outdated or improperly maintained. The money for that of course is being stolen by the PDP govt. Sorry for the families of the deceased.
Civil aviation authorities do not regulate military aviation, its strictly run by the armed forces. Besides I wonder if this fighter jet didn't come equipped with seat eject buttons so that at least the pilots could have saved their lives. May they RIP.
RIP to d dead!.....
Nigeria fighter jets keep crashing since they start buying them from China.
Chei Oga Ado and d oda officer Rip

The lack of expertise in the aviation industry iz so soo blatant.....mid-level educated nigerians!
R.I.P Sir and bro!!!!
Well may their soul RIP.
Why do our military planes always crash?
Sad
There should be ejector seats.....what kinda jets doesn't have ejector seats
May their souls rest in peace. SO SAD!
no matter which way you look at it its is blatantly evident that we do not possess the support structures as a nation to sustain a powered flight industry. It is a complex mechanism that requires due diligence, specialized technology and equipment all run by experts in the field. unfortunately this sort of occurrences are here to stay till we go back to the basics and cultivate a maintenance culture. RIP.
Dis is jus so sad, dey died serviin d coountry! RIP..btw, afrocandy gist 200 comments, fighter jet 18 comments..smh

RIP
My heart goes out to the families, I have walked this path before, I lost my brother in an air force crash in May 2009 and my family has never been the same.
No need to heap the blame on anybody. We don't know yet what happened. Military aircraft are not under the supervision of the Ministry of Aviation. And aircraft accidents happen everywhere, it is not a Nigerian phenomenon. Let's allow air accident investigators determine the immediate and remote causes. Hopefully, we will learn from it. RIP Ado. RIP Layelmenson.
The jets they are flying are the Nigeria Variant which includes Drones that cannot fly... most cars sold to Nigeria comes with one or two airbags while other countries insist on 6airbags. the Aircraft ordered by the military was stripped off of these safety features, no wonder all the new fighter jets are crashing without survivors. Last year drones purchased from Israel cannot fly... Only In Nigeria.
Its so sad,RIP Ado,may God give his wife Mary Ado n family d fortitude to bare ds great loss.
Thot fighter jets had eject seats.....Naija govt get modern planes for ur airforce.
Oh Squadron Leader Adoo and flying officer layemelson. God rest their souls. Nigeria loses two well trained young men in the line of duty. RIP
Yeah sad. RIP. I feel your pain. #airforce family
my broda they've been crashing since but this chinese ones just get as them be sha oh!!!
You moron!so because the aviation minister's a woman she can't do her job?why're you still so primitive and unenlightned?chauvinistic idiot,go back to school!respect women and your life'll be better. Omotola's husband?what do you know about him that you think he's qualified to be aviation minister?the Military aviation's strictly run by the armed forces. Leave the minister out of this and go back to school.
My frnd mary Ado may God comfort u may his soul RIP
Why dem no go die, when oda advance countries are using ''Fighter Jets'',Nigeria is still using ''Warplane'' for 20th century, Molue vs Aston Martin''....d difference is really clear.....LUMY.
This is a call to the Nigerian government to increase its Defence budget. The Alpha Jet in question is at least three decades old and the Nigerian Air Force hasn't acquired new Fighter Jets in a very long while. Those Jets are largely based on old-generation Avionics which are mechanical in nature. The Nigerian government needs to quadriple its Defence budget at least to make its Armed Forces combat-ready. May the Souls of our heroes past never be in vain. My deep condolences to the families of the deceased.
Sad!
