Sir Alex is the most successful manager in English football history. He won 38 tropphies, including two Champions League and 13 Premier League. Sir Alex Ferguson told United’s website:
“The decision to retire is one that I have thought a great deal about and one that I have not taken lightly. It is the right time. It was important to me to leave an organisation in the strongest possible shape and I believe I have done so. The quality of this league winning squad, and the balance of ages within it, bodes well for continued success at the highest level whilst the structure of the youth set-up will ensure that the long-term future of the club remains a bright one.“Our training facilities are amongst the finest in global sport and our home Old Trafford is rightfully regarded as one of the leading venues in the world.
"As for my players and staff, past and present, I would like to thank them all for a staggering level of professional conduct and dedication that has helped to deliver so many memorable triumphs. Without their contribution the history of this great club would not be as rich.
“In my early years, the backing of the board, and Sir Bobby Charlton in particular, gave me the confidence and time to build a football club, rather than just a football team.
“Over the past decade, the Glazer family have provided me with the platform to manage Manchester United to the best of my ability and I have been extremely fortunate to have worked with a talented and trustworthy Chief Executive in David Gill. I am truly grateful to all of them.”
“Going forward, I am delighted to take on the roles of both Director and Ambassador for the club. With these activities, along with my many other interests, I am looking forward to the future,”
“I must pay tribute to my family, their love and support has been essential. My wife Cathy has been the key figure throughout my career, providing a bedrock of both stability and encouragement. Words are not enough to express what this has meant to me.”

Sir Alex Ferguson, I am 27yrs old, same years you spent at the helm of the greatest club in football history by name Manchester United. You hv being as constant as the chairs, grass and our magnificent stadium(theatre of dreams). I don't know what it would be like watching a game without you present and guiding the team forward. I wouldn't be selfish and deprive u of your well deserved retirement by wishing you to go on coaching. I and I believe, eveyother man united fan are very grateful for the 27 wonderful years you gave us. With tears in my eyes I say fare thee well Sir Alex Ferguson, enjoy your retirement. With your permission, can we still call scoring at the last minute of the game "fergie time". My humble tribute to the greatest leader of the Red Army.

Linda how can you abbreviate MANCHESTER UNITED to MAN U in an article like this, what the fuck is that? you need to be a lot more serious with your communication. Media communication is serious stuff, cant say much about you giving out thrashy information. Go learn or something. #learner

Sir Alex held a meeting with the first-team squad on Wednesday morning before choking up as he addressed the entire staff at the club's Carrington training centre
Sir Alex Ferguson broke down in tears during an emotional goodbye to Manchester United staff this morning following the announcement of his decision to retire.
Once the entire first-team squad had arrived for training, Ferguson held an eight-minute meeting with the players and senior staff during where he informed them of his decision.
Sources say the players were "quiet and shocked" as they left the meeting, with some clearly emotional. Ferguson was the last man out of the room and was seen supportively patting assistant manager Mike Phelan on the back.
At 9.20am, around the same time that United made an official announcement on their website, Ferguson went to the main dining hall at Carrington to address the entire staff, from the tea ladies to the coaches.
The atmosphere was described as "pensive" and "sombre". By then, everyone knew what was going on.
During a speech that lasted between eight and 10 minutes, Ferguson choked up and became tearful as he thanked them for their support over the years and spoke of the wonderful support within the "United family".
Ferguson became particularly emotional as he revealed that some people present - particularly technical staff - may lose their jobs as a consequence of his retirement.
After he finished talking, Ferguson received a standing ovation as he shuffled out of the room, still clearly emotional as he brings an end to an extraordinary career at United.

he's done a lot..#RESPECT
Linda, don't you use spell check? It's spelt "trophies" not "tropphies." I don't think it's difficult to type "Man Utd" or "Man United." Can't really expect you to know much but for the record, "Man U" is only used by club rival fans and ignorant fans who don't know the origin of the term. You never see a good news source using it.
A great Legend of the beautiful game. Whoever is coming in to replace him has MASSIVE shoes to fill.
Will forever miss my BOSS.
Respect to the greatest manager in the world of sports.
