In 6 Months, EFCC secured 113 Convictions - Magu

Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu disclosed on Friday, June 30, 2017 that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has recorded 113 convictions in six months from its operations nationwide. According to Magu, corruption is the greatest threat to Nigeria and her development.

"Despite known challenges that we face, the Commission has recorded 113 convictions in the past 6 months across the zonal offices in the country. This was made possible by contributions and support we enjoy from people like you. We will not fail to bring to book those who have stolen our commonwealth and who thrive in destabilizing our anti-corruption initiatives. I will not relent. I will fight for the interest of our citizens and our children's future"; Magu said.

Magu is busy taking all the glory, when his staff who are doing the job have not been promoted for the past 4 years or thereabouts. The last promotion exercise in the commission was in 2013, after which most of the staff are now overdue for another promotion. By 2018, some of the staff will be due for double promotion yet, Magu would not want to hear anything about promotion. Feelers from within the commission have it that his reason for suppressing the promotion exercise is so that the regular officers will not gain promotion over the police officers, who are heading most of the teams and sections in the commission. Another wicked aspect of it all is that when d staff are eventually promoted, there will not be any arrears for the lost years. Right now what Magu has been embarking on is malicious transfers of officers he is not comfortable with, even to the point of separating married women, nursing mothers from their families. This is done without any arrangement for the statutory relocation allowance, yet the transferred officers are demanded to report at d new station with immediate effect. Rumors even had it that a couple of weeks back, one of his staff threatened to beat him up for transferring him 3 times in 2 years. Every year, EFCC defends budgets which include allocations for promotion exercise and arrears, yet none of this is carried out, yet still, EFCC is fighting corruption. Opinions from within the efcc has it that this is the worst administration the commission has ever witnessed. The chairman cannot take suggestion of ideas from even his directors. Every of his staff is afraid of even the ground he steps on. I think something serious needs to be done in order to avert a serious implosion in the nation's foremost anti-graft agency.
