Adorable photo of 120-year-old Nigerian twin grannies

This beautiful photo of these Nigerian twin grannies aged 120 was shared by a Facebook user, Nnamdi Avinadav Offorbuike, with the caption:

'If Igbo's really killed twins.....how come we have these beautiful grannies here still alive today and are 120 years old.....(if calculated well) I never believed the story of Igbos killing twins.'

Don't be ignorant...That some parts of igboland did doesn't mean every part did it..so maybe they were not born in the part they were killing ..simple ..but yes they did kill in some parts also in calabar area but not all areas

It was in Calabar that twins were killed. Who ever said it was Igbos? Fuck!

I don't think it is in doubt for any serious student of history that most of Igboland killed twins. Apart from Chinua Achebe writing about it, many other sources reveal it. I doubt the age of those twins shown. Their births were not documented. People make claims about age which intelligent and discerning minds should not believe. This is especially true of people in rural communities.

Please, twins were definitely killed in much, if not all of Igboland. And it did not end in the 19th century. It was continued well into the 20th century. I knew an Igbo man (now dead) born in about 1915. He said his twin was killed, and his mother had to seek refuge in a mission establishment to save his life. Read Flora Nwapa's 'Idu.' Some Igbo communities killed twins until the 1930s at least. Of course Chinua Achebe wrote about it in Things Fall Apart. Twin-murder was not confined to Efikland and Ibibioland. About the two ladies, I congratulate them, but I don't believe they are 120 years old. You might find they are not even up to 90. There are no documents and people in rural areas make fantastic claims about age.

Twins were definitely killef in Igbo. I am from Anambra, my grandma of blessed memory told of how the first twins were spared because their mum ran away with them to the missionaries. One of the twins is still living, very old.
