Fashola says no new road will be constructed until existing road projects are completed

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola while speaking to State house correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting at the state house Abuja, yesterday, said that the Federal government will not embark on the award and construction of any new road project until existing road projects from the last administration have all been completed.
Fashola said the last administration awarded 206 road contracts worth about N2 tillion which have not been paid for.

He said that roads that are of great economic value such as the Lagos-Ibadan expressway where important items such as Fuel or Food are to be transported to all parts of the country, are of topmost importance to the government.
He stated:
“What we have done was first to say that we would not award any new road contract. We would deal with the over 206 roads that have been awarded but not funded for over three years.”

That's what I'm talking about. White elephant projects that have become littered all over this country can be reduced
I wish this can be enshrined in our constitution that all successive governments should complete the projects of their successors

Yes good move we need contuinity not abandonment

I wonder why some people talked without reasoning. The person who wears the shoe surely knows where it pinches. Yet an honourable man like Babatunde Raji Fashola said, "for three (3) years, 206 roads contract were awarded by the previous administration worth over 2 trillion,". Some one said, he used to like him until he joined wronged party. which one is wrong party? How will you feel, when some one refers to that your PDP Party has wrong party? It is a shame that you do not even trust yourself talk less trusting another person. The truth must be told.

This is a better strategy... clear the backlog of work before embarking on new ones. Meanwhile, the rails need to perfected so that we don't depend too much on the roads for heavy goods transportation. It is well with Naija!
