Inspiring! Man who sold Nylon bags, served as a bus conductor and Laborer in Lagos emerges Speaker, Lagos Assembly

Very Inspiring story. Mudashiru Obasa, a politician representing Agege Constituency 1, who started his life as a street hawker who sold Nylon bags and wrist watches and later became a bus conductor and Laborer, all to eke a living while growing up in Lagos, today became the new speaker of the Lagos state House of Assembly. He is pictured above taking his oath of office. Congrats to him. Read about his early beginning below...

"I grew up in the Papa Ashafa area of Agege and there is hardly anything I have not done to make money, except armed robbery. Maybe I was too young to be an armed robber, but talking about hustling, there is hardly any type I have not gone into. I did all this on my own volition and not because my father could not afford to pay my school fees, but the friends I grew up with were always in one engagement or another. We would go to Agege Motor Road to sell nylon bags.
Then, 12 nylon bags is half the price when we buy and you would make times two of the amount you invested. Within few hours, you would have sold an encouraging amount. I was once a bus conductor, I was a labourer…just mention it. For me, I don’t believe in staying idle and that is why when people approach me asking for assistance to help them pay their children’s school fees, their accommodation and others, I ask them who is going to pay the next one. So why don’t you find something to do? For me, I don’t believe in staying idle and that is why when people approach me asking for assistance to help them pay their children’s school fees, their accommodation and others, I ask them who is going to pay the next one.
So why don’t you find something to do? That’s also why I don’t strongly believe in unemployment. If your father is not Dangote or Otedola and co, then you must look for something to do. It is only one with such as a father that can dictate where he wants to work. You have to be engaged, you have to do something to cross to another level,” he told PM news.

Don't worry, if you didn't go into armed robbery, you have just taken the next step to it. Nigerian politics. All Nigerian politicians are rogues and thieves

Really inspiring but I hope he leaves the street ways behind & not take it into the house. Linda take note!

Doesn't mean he will serve his state, it doesn't mean he is a man of character... it means absolutely nothing to me. Tell your story in 4 years when you have truly given back.

Linda! Did you really study English at the University of Lagos?...Your use of English surprises me sometimes you know... It's polythene bags, not nylon bags. Even if the Speaker delivered his speech like that, you can edit...
Well, to the matter at hand, very inspiring story,Mr Speaker!

I wonder when Nigerians will stop celebrating mediocrity!
I don't care how much suffering he went through in life to get to where he is today. All I'm concerned about is IS HE QUALIFIED FOR THE POSITION OF SPEAKER OF THE LAGOS STATE HOA?
If Fashola was a street hawker et. al., and still not competent enough to be the governor of the most complex state in the country, I don't think Lagos will get to where it is today.
Now, if he is qualified and also went through the journey called life, then I say bravo; BUT if he not, then Its a pity Lagos state HOA just took 99 steps backward.
Bottom line, NIGERIA NEEDS SQUARE PEGS IN SQUARE HOLES TO GET TO AN ENVIABLE POSITION, LEAVE SENTIMENTS OUTSIDE THE DOOR IF WE MEAN BUSINESS FOR PIT-SAKE!

Oga you have to realize that things have changed alot between then and now. Many have hustled like three times more than u did, but still they are not able to make end meets. The cost o living have more than skyrocketed, the people coming to ask for ur assistance isn't sitting idle doing nothing okay?.

That's the problem I notice we have in our society toda, once God favour some one and lift them up, they will begin to think that others who are still struggling are not doing enough. Is even seen within the family where one person who has made it more than others will begin to think that he is the smartest one or he is the one that struggles and works harder than others.

We must realise that what ever we become is just by the special grace of God and not by our power or might.

So mr speaker, when someones comes and ask for ur help, if you can help, don't start asking who is going to pay the next one.

Too long to read. I hope with all those selling of nylons , he still went to the Uni. At this stage such positions shouldn't be given to uneducated people. Else Nig will not move

Eya Thank God for him o. More of such stories in Nigeria pls to show that dreams do come true even here...

Now that is democracy. YOu should be able to see someone with your storyline in the seat of power. More kudos to Lagos state for being the first in many ways. Bro, be proud of where you came from and make it happen for those you left behind. Bring them with you so that you are not leaving them behind.

There is nothing inspiring about this story Linda. Have u heard about Adaranijo, he was once a shoemaker and has been d rep 4 agege house of rep for d past 15 yrs. Now he's in d senate. Have u been to agege recently? I guess not. These people are just touts and armed robbers who unfortunately bcome our leaders. Dnt promote illeteracy as inspiring Linda.
