Gaviscon, an innovative non-prescription pharmaceutical brand from the stables of RB Nigeria Limited recently strengthened its relationship with the Society for Gastroenterology and Hepatology in Nigeria (SOGHIN) to explore better ways to treat Gastro-oesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) commonly known as heartburn.

Partnering with SOGHIN to host the 8th Scientific Conference and Annual General Meeting in Ilorin, Kwara state tagged ‘Infectious Disease and Gastroenterology Practice in Nigeria.

Gaviscon featured insightful expositions via reputable international faculty focusing particularly on the treatment of Gastro-oesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD).

In his statement buttressing the vision of RB Nigeria Limited, Marketing Director, RB West Africa, Oguzhan Silivrili stated, “Our vision is to have a world where people are living healthier lives in happier homes. Our purpose is to make a difference by providing innovation solutions for healthier lives and happier.”

Speaking on behalf of RB Nigeria Limited at SOGHIN Conference, Consultant Gastroenterologist, Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Dr. Samaila Adamu stated ‘Gaviscon contains Alginates which is very essential in the treatment of people with Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) also known as heartburn. Before the advent of Gaviscon and other forms of alginates, we had antacids which neutralize the acids but do not have the additional property of Alginates that protects the Oesophegus from the reflux content of the stomach”.

“The discovery of the acid bucket; which is a new insight into the pathogenesis of what causes reflux disease in Nigerians and the availability of Gaviscon would go a long way in the treatment of heartburn. This would improve the quality of life of Nigerians” Dr. Adamu added.

Also speaking on behalf of RB Nigeria Limited, Consultant Gastroenterologist and Director of Medical Education, Princess Diana of Wales Hospital, United Kingdom, Dr. Asif Naqvi (FRCP) stressed that 40% of patients who suffer from Reflux diseases do not respond to the Proton-Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) treatment only; however, the use of Alginate which is present in Gaviscon provides a better solution.

Highlighting the efficacy of Gaviscon, Marketing Manager Gaviscon, Qaiser Rashid pointed out “Gaviscon is a reflux suppressant that rapidly soothes the burning pain of heartburn in just three minutes and provide relief for up to four hours. It goes into the stomach and forms a raft on top which prevents the acid pepsin and bile from coming on top so that patients get fast, effective and long-lasting relief.
