Photos: Students, parents & teachers hold night vigil in school over alleged plans by Enugu govt to demolish their school

Parents, teachers and students of Spring of Life International School, Enugu have resorted to holding vigils in their school premises after the state government allegedly indicated plans to demolish their school which they termed an illegal structure.

According to one of the students who reached to LIB, the state government had recently embarked on pulling down illegal structures in the state built without a town plan approval and had marked their school premises for demolition. Their school management immediately approached an Enugu state court and the court issued an injunction barring the state government from carry out the planned demolishing. See photos of students holding vigil after the cut...

After students and school management saw tractors and bulldozers of the state government around their school premises, they have been keeping watch morning and night in hopes to stop of stopping any attempted demolition.

The students say other buildings on the same street where their school is situated, Golden Royal Hotel (most state govt function hold there), Blue island hotel and even a bare land just besides the school which is currently being fenced have been left out of the planned demolition.

No need of holding vigils. They should trek from their schools to Enugu state governor's lodge.

Is it that all you replying have failed to read or don't understand what it means for something to be illegal , I tire oooo, just maybe all the other structures , have the approved building plans , and the school violated the rules .
Let's us stop getting unduly emotional , if it has to go , it just has to .
We are always bending the rules in this warped country .
If head boy and parents like let them sleep till tomorrow , if it is an illegal structure it goes .

Can now see why some people reply to post childishly cause na so so school children dey here , head boy wey suppose to face ehim book .

God has nothing to do with this.
Doesn't take much to get an approval from got. before building. It's their fault.

Jus maybe the govt is protecting the children.
The school I know is located on top of a river valley and the hotels mentioned are on the opposite side of the valley on almost equal grounds and a bit far from the valley.
God forbid if any quake happens the school will be the first to cave in.
The government should provide an alternative land for them though

Depends on whats on the table sha. If they have plans of erecting a better and well-sited structure then they can share the grace or pray for quick action.

The pple that built the school didn't just see an empty land n decided to put up such massive structures, they must have gotten sme form title for the land that's why they were able to get a court injunction, they probably left out the a certificate of occupancy which is quite expensive to get in Enugu. We don't ve so many good schools in Enugu, spring of Life is quite an exception so the state government is just being wicked nd shallow minded plz tell me way they can build on that land that will make an impact like spring of Life has made in the lives of so many Enugu Kids, am so sure so many lands gotten in the present governors administration have not been legalised but they wunt touch those ones oh cuz of sentiment it's now spring of Life they wanna demolish cuz it was gotten in the past administration it's obviously beef. Rules re rules I agree but then sometimes u ve to bend the rules depending on circumstances which in this case is quite critical cuz not only will students preparing to write their NECO loose out, the staff will also loose their jobs and parents who have paid school fees will loose, the state will also loose one of its best schools so pple getting emotional over this are on the right track unlike u that lacks compassion

Anonymous said...

Truth be told......where they built that school is not right. In their bid to claim the land near the river, they must have oversteppped their boundary. It does nt have anything to do with the hotels there which are properly located. Let them stop bringing up sentiments that does not hold water. Just because their school is popular does nt mean the rules should be bent for them. Govt demolished mountain of fire headquarters due to d same reason and nothing happened. Let us stop taking a lot of things for granted in this country.
They blocked the access road to the other lands behind. So does it mean that their owners will now fly and enter their land? Kudos to enugu state govt. I trust sulli, he go do wetin he knows is right. Make people learn and do the right thing at all times.

Unknown said...

Kindly shut up! If you don't know anything about the location of the school then you find out before making ignorant comments. The hotel is in no way affecting the activities of the school.

QUEERNAIJA said...

Linda I don't think you have the right info, this school is not on d same layout as the places mentioned around it, the school is in a water logged area, you will almost feel for the students when it rains, I guess the govt is scared it might collapse someday with the kids inside, also, the reason the vacant plot mentioned had remained vacant is because a gully passed through it and so the state govt has stopped Orange Room club from developing. The Golden Royale reception hall behind d said school is also in debate so y'all lamenting, if eventually the school is left and it later collapses y'all will still cuss out the state govt

@ Udybabes if u need explanation u ask4 1.. Golden Royal Hotel isn't it close to the sch, Orange Room club, Blue Island hotel, that schook started 2005, we knew what we went through coz we were the 1st set of dis great sch and you know wat dat means... y didn't the So called governor demolish the sch since4rm, then it's nw few days 4 him to leave office he sends dem, am Jst perplexed, it's either he had a pro wit d owner of the sch coz dey were quiet close then.. God will hear dere prayers.. Am an Accountant 2day, Solis taught me well, am a great product of this great sch.. enjoy ya day pple

P et J said...

on physical inspection only, the school structure is not well leveled not to talk of the results shown by scientific structural test. the school administration should have done the right thing first by applying for a building plan subject to the approval of the town planning authority. this is not a case of sentiment... it is a case of a safe future.

Una no sabi Sullivan Chime. If that drunk decides that he must carry on that demolition, he will make sure he does that even if it means doing that by 11am on 29th just like an hour before handover. I pray that God will soften his hard heart. Bad man

Gov. Sulivan take it easy, I have been saying good things about you, I believe you will not let us down. leave the structure alone, because of the children

Anonymous said...

That school is one of the school that have really stood out in Enugu, both in academics et al. Useless sulivan has not seen the illegal buildings at Otigba junction where ashewo gather every nite it is school that he is seeing. Let God judge him and his generation.

Pls if sumtin bad (which i dont pray for)shld happen to d boys now who takes d blame?I don't know y sum mamas are so careless!! Even if d skul is demolish they can sue for damages rather dan waste the innocent souls who are priceless gems, selfish human beings where r d propietor kids naija pple don value life!! ...haa money, properties, clothes dats all dey care abt!!

Anonymous said...

That ish... is a special beef. He should wait for court injunction and town planners report. Gov Chime has coveted every piece of land in Enugu state. The conference centre, ranger avenue, part of okpara sq and all of thinkers corner for his family members. He does things that concerns properties with great impunity.

Anonymous said...

@udybabes, u can't dig a foundation anywhere without approval. In, Nigeria ones you start digging anything on a piece of land no matter how interior the location someone from a regulatory agency must show up, even if it's a tatch house. This structure is a very massive structure and very conspicuous not to be noticed and u think the agencies in-charge of any form of approval with not seek for adequate documents(even if for personal gratification)? Wake up pls!
