Photos: See the road that leads to Nigeria's premier port

This is the federal road that leads to the port that generates billions of Naira on a yearly basis. This is the road to Apapa Road from Coconut Bus-stop through Tincan Island. It swallows trailer tyres and even causes containers to fall. Motorists say a journey that shouldn't take up to 5 minutes sometimes takes up to one hour. And this road has been like this for years. See more photos after the cut...

The problem in Nigeria is that the government are not doing enough to make Nigeria a better place for all and for global investors to come and invest Nigeria. the cannot provide good roads and steady electricity. how can a very important road like this one will be in that very bad state. this is so sad beyond believe. i hope Nigerian politicians are seeing this post.

Linda this is no exaggeration,u can even spend more self,Apapa road is d road with the highest traffic that I know of here in gidi so far followed by ketu-ikorodu road, though i learnt there is construction on going which i believe would ease mvt after completion.....It sucks what traffic can cause due to bad roads couple with flood here in lagos.Imagine i left my area around magodo, shangisha 7am this morning for my office on lagos island and i got to the office some minutes to 11am...its so so fraustrating.i nearly slept off on the wheels..The govt(federal n state) should pls do something about our roads and flood in lagos state...

More than one hour ke? Linda, we spend more than 4hrs on tha road at times. Apapa road is an abandoned project, apart from the fact that it takes time,it also take lives. A lot of accident and robbery occur on that road,i don't know if the government doesn't know about it.

The Stupid Government should privatize those roads and putt a toll gate there .. I live abroad and most of the roads here that are plied by heavy duty vehicles transporting goods pay as much as 5 to 7k of Naira Equivalence per exit and entry and the roads are thoroughly maintained . Naija should take a clue and grow up .. Naija is my country but sometimes I just hate the way things are being handled . I grew up knowing that power outage is a norm. I hope things change !

Yes this road has been like this for many years... federal government is not doing anything about it and state government is claiming the road belongs to federal... The problem is there is no even time to fix that road.. Day and Night trailers are moving on that road so maybe the Government is confused how to fix it or maybe they just don't care..

THERE ARE 2 ROADS LEADING INTO NIGERIAS PREMIER PORTS. THE APAPA-OSHODI AND IJORA LINK BRIDGE -COMING FROM WESTERN AVE. Both roads are death traps. none of these roads have ever had a working street light so when these trailers fall at night, other vehicles cant see them and of course we no the result of that. GROWING UP IN APAPA, I SAW A LOT OF ACCIDENTS ON THESE ROADS AND LOST A LOT OF FRIENDS..RIP

WHAT I CANNOT COMPREHEND TO DATE IS WHY THE PREMIER PORTS (SEA AND AIR) IN THE COMMERCIAL HUB OF WEST AFRICA (LAGOS) ARE IN SUCH A DEPLORABLE SHAPE.

EVERYTHING FROM THE NEEDLE WE USE TO THE BUILDING MATERIALS TO THE CLOTHS WE AEAR COME FROM THESE PORTS BUT YET THESE ROADS HAVE BEEN SHOWN NO MERCY OR RESPECT BY THE FG.

THE SAME BUILDING MATERIALS AND CARS YOU USE IN ASO ROCK AND THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY COME FROM HERE SO PLS PLS HON MIKE AND CO. ADDRESS THIS SITUATION.

DUBAI, SINGAPORE AND GERMANY USE RAIL AND PIPELINES TO COMPLEMENT THEIR TRUCKS BUT YET THEY HAVE 4 LANES IN AND OUT OF THEIR PORTS. WE DONT HAVE RAIL AND PIPELINES TRANSPORTING WET AND DRY CARGO OUT SO WE RELY SOLEY ON TRUCKS, SO WHY THEN DO YOU GUYS THERE THINK IT MAKES SENSE TO HAVE SINGLE CARRIAGE WAYS PLAGUED WITH BIG HOLES AND NO STREET LIGHTS THEREBY RISKING THE LIVES OF YOUR CITIZENS.

I MADE A COMMENT HERE ABOUT APAPA ROADS THE LAST TIME THE HON MIKE POSTED PICS OF SOME GOOD ROADS AND HE DIDNT REPLY OFCOS I WASNT EXPECTING.

I DONT CARE WAT ANYONE SAYS BUT NIGERIA IS SUFFERING AS A RESULY OF MANY. IT TOOK MY INTERNET FOREVER TO LOAD..JUST TO COMMENT. MY PHONE NETWORKS ARE BAD, DSTV DONT WORK, CARS ARE DAMAGED BY THE ROADS, HOSPITALS HAVE RATS, POLICE WEAR RAGS AND DRIVE BANGERS OOOPS THEY JUST TOOK LIGH..

Am eager to express my utmost grieve as to the hardship we put ourselves and our fellow ordinary citizens of this great country through year in, year out. Shall we continue in this inhuman, selfish and dastardly activities when all we need is a little change? Believe it or not the solution to our sufferings in Nigeria lies in our own hands. It is high time we realize this fact. If every man and woman in this country can effect a change in all that we do, including how and who we vote to carry public responsibilities. Change will happen.
Let us quit blaming our leaders and aim at effecting a change by not selling our votes in the coming dispensation. May God help us.

Yes. I have more pictures linda. I ll mail them to you. I work at Tincan Island. Been plying that route since Jan 2013 to date. Mile 2-Tincan-wharf is just a mess, a death trap. A journey of about 9mins from mile2 will take you well over 1hr.
No parks for tankers, Commercial buses drive against traffic and charge ridiculous amount
The Nigerian Govt is very wicked and insensitive. May God punish intensely whoever was awardes that project and refused to finish ( that is if it has ever been awarded). Containers FALL daily, tankers tip over every other day. I dont even know what to say.
The most revenue that they all sit and share in abuja comes from these region, what will it take to fix these roads. Yet people pay tax every day and get nothing in return. May God punish thrm all.

Anonymous said...

And you wonder where the 71% roads are that they government is claiming are now in good condition. Maybe Benin-Ore road I 71% of all the roads in Nigeria since that is the only road have seen the government completed in recent years.
