Photos: Women groups protest against torture of Ejigbo women, petitions Lagos Assembly

Women advocacy groups today marched in protest against the violent torture and sodomization of two women at Ejigbo over alleged stealing of pepper. The Women Arise group presented horrible clip of the sodomy to participants during the protest and also presented copies of the video in Compact Disk to members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, who were also handed a petition demanding investigation and justice for the affected women. Continue...

The protesters created a catchphrase/hashtag "#Ejigbo2" to popularize the incidence and specifically to constant follow-up to just end.

Receiving the protesters, the Lagos House reps promised to move a motion today and set up a committee to immediately commence investigation into the incidence. The reps said chairman of the Ejigbo local government, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan; all the market women in Ejigbo central market as well as all concerned in the incidence will be called to the panel.

Women Arise and other leaders of the protest will also be invited to the panel.

The petition by Women Arise group to the Lagos House of reps is reproduced below:

Attention:  Mr. Ikuforiji Adeyemi,
Speaker,
Lagos State House of Assembly,
Alausa, Ikeja,
Lagos.
Mr Speaker Sir,
PETITION ON THE DEHUMANIZATION OF TWO WOMEN IN EJIGBO, LAGOS STATE

The above Subject refers:

We are Women Arise for Change Initiative and we herein petition your good offices on behalf of two Nigerian women and Lagos State Residents in Ejigbo, hereafter referred to as “The Victims,” who sometimes this year were subjected to one of the most vicious forms of human rights abuses and the unspeakable horrors of brutality by certain depraved and savage men.

Indeed, there was outrage across the nation and around the world when video shots of the victims stripped naked, and being mercilessly beaten with pepper and sodomised with strange objects went viral (Attached is a Video CD of the sordid scenes).

As Nigerians and fellow citizens of the world watched the horrific scenes, they wondered if these were shots taken in the dark ages of savagery and primitivism.

Strangely enough, a Statement this month by the Chairman of Ejigbo LCDA, Kehinde Bamigbetan at the height of the furore, acknowledged that this unimaginable horror took place in his domain in February this year, and that the victims were a mother and step daughter accused of stealing pepper, and that the husband and father was a palm-wine tapper; but Bamigbetan’s Statement sadly to say, failed to outline the measures his office had taken since then to assure justice for the victims and ensure that the perpetrators are punished. Ironically, it is the same Bamigbetan whose gruesome kidnap few months back elicited genuine emotions and public goodwill, and the Lagos State Government and concerned Nigerians spared nothing to guarantee his release, and bring the kidnappers to book. Why did he appear to have turned a blind eye over the ordeal of the victims, and why is he just acknowledging to the public these atrocities after ten good months? Or is that the victims lives are of no value to him because they are pepper sellers from the household of Mr. Palm-wine tapper?

Women Arise for Change Initiative hold the belief that all peoples, including women are created equal by the Almighty, and they are therefore equal before the law; women’s rights are human rights.

To this end, we request and urge you to kindly use your good offices to set up an inquiry into this shameful incident and compel the Ejigbo LCDA Chairman, Kehinde Bamigbetan to share his knowledge of the crime and what he has done in tracking down the purveyors of these bestialities so that they can be brought to justice; adequate provisions must also be made to rehabilitate the victims, peradventure they survived these cruelties.

We strongly believe that there is a redemptive value for Lagos State in fishing out these criminals for punishment so that the State is not seen as a haven for atrocious human rights abuses, where barbaric and savage acts are tolerated by government officials; that is surely not a good face to present to potential investors and tourists to the commercial hub of the nation.

This is certainly one issue that will not die until justice is done, and we trust that you will act quickly and ably, and use your good offices to ensure that justice is done, for justice too long delayed is justice denied.
Thank you in anticipation of your prompt action.

Yours Faithfully,

Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin
President
Women Arise for Change Initiative
26, Adebowale Street,
Ojodu-Berger,
Lagos.

12 THINGS THAT MAKES HIM WANTS A BREAKUP...
1: RESPECT: No matter what, even if you are older than him..all he seeks is some respect for the man he is..
2: IN-CHARGE: Every guy want to feel he runs it all. Give him that pace to have that feel. Don't be a dictator.
3: NAGGING: When you start wanting to snoop upon his phone contacts, recent calls, questioning of peeps he hangs with, wanting him to spend all day with you etc..all this drives him out..though he might not say it.
4: COMPETITION: When you start making him feel you are in competition to always acquire what all your girlfriends have acquired. It makes him sick.
5: TALKERTVIVE: Every guy would want a responsible girl and when you talk to much its is assumed you can't keep secrets.
6: COMPARISON: Never go into a discussion and then compare you man to another. Telling him what your girls man does and he doesn't do that.
7: SCOLDING PUBLICLY: A man is a man,no matter what happens when you guys are hanging out with friends, just stomach them when you are together you can let them out. Don't go correcting him in front of his friends.
8: BEING TOO FORWARD: When you are with him on an outing, let him do all introduction. Don't go before him introducing yourself to his friends and jumping into discussion.
9: PRIVACY: A man would always want to have some privacy. So when he tells you its private, I will tell you when the time come accept don't go raising dust.
10: EXTRAVAGANT: Every man no matter how wealthy would want a cost saving girl for a wife..so watch your spendings.
11: MENTALITY: A man sees you the way you want him to see you, thus never make him feel he is in a competition with other guy just to keep you. Bring home to him a honest mentality then he will be good.
12: LOVE/TRUST: Love is the basic but trust keeps it going. When he says am not dating her, she's a friend trust him. Because he saw them all before he came for you.

See Linda, let us face the fact, this is medicine after death. The incident happened 10 months ago, the incident as we saw in the video happened during the day time and it was one of the market women that report those two lady to those guys to torture. where were they in ejigbo when they were torturing the women in the day time? where are the market women?so if not that the video came online 9months after and we all sees it nothing will be done? its sad, the market leader and the head of tout in the market should be arrested, play the video for them and sure those boys will come out. But those in ejigbo market no try sha, so if not for the video justice will not be seek? shame *ThatFunctionGuy*

Some of your points are ok but others are just very backward, I'm sorry to say. Do these apply to a significant other or a boss/master? 1.You both deserve respect in a relationship, not just the guy. 2. If he wants to be in charge then he should take charge, no need to 'feel' if he's actually taking charge. 3. Nagging applies to both, trust and trustworthiness are key here. 4. On point. Vanity upon vanity is pointless. 5. We were all created differently, some people are introverted and others are extroverts. If he doesn't like someone who speaks then don't date an extrovert to start with. Some guys actually like girls that speak out, they find them exciting and fun to be around. 6. Agree on that point too. It is not good to compare that way. 7. On point too, mutual respect is key here. The guy shouldn't berate the female in public either, instead they can correct each other lovingly with respect and care in private. 8. Depending on the situation my friend, and the personalities involved. 9. I'm sorry, that one sounds very dodgy and shady, it will also create doubts and distrust. Just being frank here... 10. True, a wise couple will try to save for the future, not just blast everything on frivolous endeavors. 11. Part of that is right but a guy needs to know he's not the only one interested in you to appreciate you more, otherwise he might not really appreciate your worth because no other guy even find you worthy. 12. Love/trust works both ways and both partners should not create reasons to doubt one another to start with. A guy cannot be keeping late nights, going into other rooms to take calls, telling his woman "it is private" whenever she asks him about things then turns around and says "I saw them all before coming for you". We all know that's just claptrap. By the way, this applies to the females too. So before you and your "Peterson's counsel" peeps try to brainwash women, at least try to come up with things less-chauvinistic that would actually better everybody in the long run. .........Just Me

I am not saying she isn't doing something. What I am saying is that she should get more involved in the fight. For instance she can set up a page where Nigerians can petition the authorities and she can further struggle for justice by ensuring our petition gets to the authorites.

In all I wish I can join a group to fight these injustices in our society.

To all the victims of jungle justice in Nigeria I pray God in his infinite mercies give them strength to move on life and to heal them. Give them a reason to smile this Christmas.

My sisters, agreed; this children stole & they have to be punished. For God sake! why the vagina? This people are BEAST, & have to be treated as BEAST. They were delivered by women, passed through the VAGINA. They have sisters, wives, daughters; which they considered precious. They have abused all. They should be asked how they want the Court to treat them.
