Policemen arrested over lynching of students in Badagry

According to Punch, the policemen who just stood there and watched while two young men were beaten to death on Sunday July 21 in Badagry, have been arrested. The police officers, Inspector Adefemi Ashogbon and Sergeant John Sonayon of the Badagry Police Division were arrested on Friday August 2nd. Sergeant Sonayon was the police officer that interviewed the victims during their torture. Eight other people have also been arrested over the lynching.

Lagos state Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko said,
“The Divisional Police Officer did not present the matter to us the way it happened. When we started asking questions, we discovered that the two people, who were killed, were not armed robbers contrary to what the DPO told us. When we saw the video clips and watched the way those boys were killed, we told ourselves that we would be failing in our duties if we fail to bring everyone involved to justice.”
The sooner they start giving long prison sentences to people who lynch or people who are even found on the scene of a lynching...just looking sef...the safer our family and friends will be.

Anonymous said...

they need to pass the death sentence on them. this is cold blooded murder in broad daylight!!! WHYYYY! why!!

Anonymous said...

Linda you should stop posting tribalistic statements as it breeds hatred. Posting such things on your site makes you as bad as those who make them. You may say its freedom of speech but the problem is that no one would read something targeted at their tribe and not feel like retaliating and that breeds hatred.

Anonymous said...

I agree with you Linda!!! Anyone caught just looking and cheering on should be imprisoned as well. Jungle justice has to attract a grave penalty like the death sentence on people who engage in it, that way it will reduce ramptly. Our police force is just a disgrace! Big shame, all they do is to molest and harrass innocent people. Time to fight robbers they will be nowhere to be found! Linda post my comment oh!

Anonymous said...

It is a pity that the sacrosanct of human life is nt valued in our country. Our police officers are really failing us.

It is quite disappointing dat after d incident in aluu, people can still engage in such barbaric act,its a shame, but why should ppl's error be a topic of discussion under dis kinda issue?I'm sorry but most of u need to grow up...if sm1 shld make a mistake its stupid to mk a fool of d person wen u re meant to comment on d issue @ hand.Shame

To me the best way to stop this uncivilized action in Nigeria is by giving life imprisonment to any body caught in such a scene because been there watching motivate those who carried out this unacceptable action. We are going to monitor this case to the end.Linda take note.RIP to the guys.

Even if they committed any crime, were they supposed to b lynched while policemen were there standing? Those police in question should be rosted as well if found guilty.....

I think jungle justice shud b stopped in our country. All d pple of Ajara shud b brought 2 book. For the policemn, there's no 2 ways about his own jurgemnt "Life 4 Life". How many more undergradutes are we going 2 loose? Exactly a year ago 4 innocent boys were brutally murdered. If not 4 ASUU strike dis boys would be in there respective schools,Fed.gvmnt shud please resolve d issues with ASUU.....

Anonymous said...

long prison sentences ke,

anyone primarily involved in the lynching is guilty of premeditated murder, assault and use of excessive force with intent to kill (that receives capital punishment) because any armed robber that shoots anyone has just committed murder (we can even argue whether it is pre-meditated or not)

For anyone who had the power to stop the lynching without doing so is guilty of abandonment of duty, and providing assistance to the murder, (some jurisdictions this is capital punishment as well)

Nkem said...

You see why we have the kind of problems we have in Nigeria? Rather than tackling our problems as a nation, we resort to tribalism. The truth is attributing a problem to Igbos, Yorubas or even Hausas doesn't solve the problem but compounds it.The earlier we realize this, the better for us as a country.

Personally, I think all the perpetrators of this crime and all those guilty by association should be severely dealt with this time to serve as a deterrent to others.

Can the law makers create a law that addresses jungle justice in Nigeria??

MY TURN said...

jungle justice in itself is a crime.... they should all be given the same fate, it might help curb this madness.
