Wales Football Manager Gary Speed Commits Suicide at 42

Gary Andrew Speed, the 42-year-old manager of the Wales national team and former Welsh football player (He was captain of the Wales national football team until he retired from international football in 2004 ), was this morning found hanged after an apparent suicide at his home in Cheshire. Police say there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

Speed, born in Mancot, Flintshire, had appeared on BBC1's Football Focus show on Saturday afternoon, just hours before his death. He was a married father of two.

Seemed like a guy who had everything going for him, why would he kill himself? But like William Shakespeare wrote - there's no art to find the mind's construction in the face. May his soul RIP!

Let's no be ignorant here. depressions affects every race and gender etc. Some people are just able to cope better than others, some have a supporting structure in place and some are happy to go on meds. Its not an oyinbo thing. Didnt a young pretty 9aija girl just kill herself because her boyfriend called of their wedding. If that aint depression, i dont know what it is.

Did someone say he didn't kill himself?
So sad. Yes, saw him on Football Focus on Saturday and i was admiring his dark and tanned looks! So sad especially for his wife and two teenage sons. Yesterday was all about him. Today, the reactions, issues about mental health etc are all over the Press.

Stop trying to be an ITK..not endearing and proof read while u at it..I said..Oyinbos of a certain class..that is successful oyinbos keep tend to keep to themselves hence the term stiff upper lip..u chin up and bear it..
9jas or the way African society are shaped deal with depression much better 'cos we have are more open in nature..gregarious...look at what 9jas on a daily basis have to go through and still survive..what we don't acknowledge is mental illness which instead of getting adequate medical treatment call it spiritual warfare..

I am a massive female football fan and Gary Speed is considered as one of the few gentlemen you can find in football-Sometimes people just tune in to watch him on BBC football focus-soft spoken and simple-as they said on TV and I agree he is/was indeed in his own right A PRINCE OF WALES. Its so sad.I began to think about how people get depressed-he who many people would have envied and wanted to be like, yet he took his own life
It is well

High depression knows no race or gender. I'm Nigerian , I used to be highly depressed, went through suicidal thoughts but what helped me is really my strong biblical values and prayers. People say it's cliche but God brought me through. Also, having a loving family who will talk to me, and didn't entertain it for me.

R.I.P Gary. I pray that God will console his family.
