Foreign-owned shops close in Joburg amid fears of attacks...

According to reports by SA media, a number of shops owned by foreigners have closed their shops in the Johannesburg CBD area after allegedly receiving threats from a mob. The group, who are said to be Zulu boys, threatened to attack any shops that remained open. They recently looted many shops in Durban and killed about 10 foreign immigrants, including Nigerians. They burnt some people inside their shops.

An eNCA reporter Nickolaus Baeur was in one of the streets this morning called Lilian Ngoyi Street and shop owners told him they feared for their safety. See the tweets after the cut...

SA is back again with violence. They should know better, knowing where they are coming from. And where are the security men in all these? Have they been subdued?

Man inhumanity to man,i pray something is done quickly about it.

Exactly. I don't know why blacks act like this, especially south Africans. Because they cannot collect their shit or try to compete with the white man, they start hunting ppl of their own race. I know ppl that live in SA and they say that the black south Africans hate people from other African countries. They can just kill you because you African. The hate is too much. Let us love one another, that's the only way we can grow

What is the south African and Nigerian government doing about this? Please every human life is important but as a nation we should let other nations know that we value the lives of our citizens and there will be consequences if we are threatened or killed in a foreign land. We are the biggest nation in Africa and it's high time other nations begin to respect us.

This is not the kind of life Mandela (May his soul rest in peace) envisioned. Its bad image for his legacy and for south Africa considering its popularity in the world.

SA government please intervene, Please Nigerians in SA becalm and remain steadfastness, and keep praying for our beloved country country to return back to her foundational father - original statuesque . where all of us in diaspora will deem it fit to return home after few years of Buhari Administration.

Dearest Nigerians calm down. We don't deny the problems in SA but what you have to know is there are no dead bodies on the streets of Joburg right now. The people that have closed shop are doing it for precaution. The streets right now are filled with specialist riot police and everyone is going about their business. Most of these attacks are happening in the poor areas where the poor turn on the poor. In middle to upper class area and uptown there is nothing. What is being reported as shops here in SA we call them tuck shops that are opened in the townships mainly with a few downtown shops where they sell goods from Dubai, China etc. Be wary of media sensation. You brothers and sisters are well and alive. It is true the atmosphere is intimidating but that happens if you are foreigner sometimes.

I can't believe such atrocities is happening. u would think they would have learn from apartheid but i guess not. Their base of these attacks is the fact that foreigners are taking their jobs but if you go to school and have the mental tendency to be entrepreneurs just like these foreign africans, then you won't have to worry about them taking ur jobs.

Unknown said...

This are black attacking black this is obscene am in a foreign land thinking of this makes me scared cos they do say d same thing blacks taking their jobs Gos protect me and my family oversea
