Update on ASUU strike; striking lecturers want four month salary

The leadership of the Academic Staff Union of University, ASUU, has said that the 4month old strike would only be called off if the federal government pays them their four month salary arrears since the inception of the strike as well as the full implementation of the N1.2trillion federal govt proposed funding for public universities with the immediate release of N100billion this year. The remaining N1.1trillion would be spread for 5 years.

They made this resolution after their Friday November 23rd National Executive Council meeting held in Kano state. A meeting between them and President Jonathan is been called for by the association before they can call off the strike.

hmmmm this will be a difficult deal to strike, owing to the fact that our Goverment must av counted the unpaid salary as accrued gain.
Lets pray the FG sees reasons with them.

These lecturers are crooks, getting four months salary they did not work for....I am sure the mumu GEJ will pay them.

Makeover by T.E.J.U said...

At first I was going to Insult them, but on the other side, the truth isthat it all bounces back to the students, the government needs to release this fund and let the education sector just move forward, now if they want their salary, I believe this country has and should pay, I can imagine how this lecturers will frustrate the students and just give bad grades if they are broke...in a positive light they are fightiing for a good educational system for Federal universities...the reality is many of these funds go into personal pockets eventually and most of their kids don't study here... They can't keep giving the edu sector peanut....

Dis pple cnt b crios dis period dat d road is so rough dey shld jus chill till january no b we go die 4 road

Only reason why the lecturers are being so stiff-necked with their demands is because they know without a doubt that the FG can afford whatever money they ask for.
They(ASUU) have seen recent developments in the country;how one woman can ask her subordinates to "do the needful" and squander millions on cars, how the NNPC has turned into one big circus where the minister of petroleum and others siphon as much as they want.
The Lecturers also want their share of the so-called national cake except that they are doing it at the detriment of innocent students.

These lecturers r so annoying, only in naija can this happen. How av they worked for or justified the pay they r asking for.

Are the lecturers wrong? These politicians receiving bogus salaries and doing nothing, do they deserve it? Do you know how much is being stolen everyday from our oil? What is wrong in someone asking you to implement an agreement reached years ago. I'm not a lecturer but the Govt should be responsible for once.

Anonymous said...

dis is a mature tot.abeg tell dem.they did nt cal it off since,is it dis dec dt wil b d best 2 do so?

Anonymous said...

Media: u won't stop deceiving people, just look at the way Linda put this heading and morons are abusing ASUU. As a matter of fact, ASUU NEC has decided to call of the strike but since everything they discussed with GEJ were just mere promises, ASUU wants to see them being done before academic activities start. Nobody wants to suspend a strike and 2months later tell u, FG hasn't done anything. ASUU is just telling the govt, start doing does thing GEJ said he will do bcos the last time ASUU checked, ASUU trusted FG and from 2009 to 2013 FG was playing pranks with ASUU. Empty students don't even want to analyse* the situation well, they just open their un-brushed teeth n un-cleaned mouth.

Anonymous said...

ASUU is so on point with this strike. Why won't they ask for Ntrillions when they see the Abuja blockheads eating with N1bn in a year and buying private jets & bulletproof cars.

NB: Before you run your mouth, i also witnesses a 6-month strike while i was in school. So it's nothing new and ultimately it's for the benefit of the students.

Anonymous said...

They should sell one of Stella Oduah's cars and use the money to contribute towards payment. The real victims of this mess are the students and it is not fair to prolong the strike, but now that they know one woman has successfully siphoned millions over a stupid ride, how won't they demand their money?

@Anon 8:56 You are lost and way out of line! I'm sure you're a rabid dog because you will not hound gossip sites if you are busy....oh wait....you would, infact, because you're as illiterate as those you churn out with your limp and outdated copied handouts!
They want money for work undone! Are you insane? Jonathan is very nice and calm. Left for me, I'd sack every lecturer, and employ fresh hands. You cannot eat your cake and have it. Playing god with folks lives and trying to get them to what? Say you're nice? It is your life that is unclout, lurid sordid arsewipe dumb fart! Without students, you're nothing pigsperm

Anonymous said...

Yea indeed sandy. You're hungry now abi? Parents who pay fees unko? House rents? Wasted? Time wasted! And you feel you will enjoy the salary of months you refused to work? If you employed a help who refused to come to work for as much as two days, shey you will pay up? Then they say a month, or two and demand you pay them for when they didn't come to work before they gift you their presence as you have no choice ba?! It is only govt workers that can try this madness! The private schools will not even employ 60% full time lecturers knowing the antecedents of asuu. You're a young lecturer, get busy! If you decide to follow this path of strike, you will have wasted your career, gained nothing and become so bitter and frustrated that noone will want to come within 350 mile radius!

Something's not just clear on this FG-ASUU saga. First, ASUU demands ғσя̥ N92billion, FG refuses and later offers N30billion. As expected, ASUU ignores the offer and carries on with the strike. Few weeks later, FG disburses over N100billion to federal universities (leaving the PRINCIPAL N92billion that caused the industrial action in the first place). Months later, FG offers about N40billion, and ASUU, again, rejects. Stating that its overall demands are upto N1.1tr. FG declares a 'NO WORK, NO PAY' rule. Then comes the MEETING of all meetings. A 13hour "marathon" gossip session called "meeting" with the president, GEJ. I wonder who the athletes are. FG promises to "pump" N1.1tr into the university system in the next 5 yrs, making it over N200billion on a yearly basis. Then, ASUU takes the resolution to its various zones and conducts referenda whether or not to end the strike. Some say it should continue, majority say it should end. After that, it proposes a NEC meeting. Consequently, a staunch member and former president dies. God rest his soul. NEC meeting is cancelled and postponed. ASUU mourns ғσя̥ a week and decides to meet again. After the much anticipated meeting, ASUU comes up with 4 conditions that must be met before it calls off the 5month old strike. Chief among its demands is that FG "immediately" pays all outstanding salary arrears owed it since the strike began. What a country! Where people must be paid ғσя̥ not working.
When two elephants fight, the grass, they say, suffers.
How are we (the students) sure that these groups (FG n ASUU) are not just playing with our gullible minds? Too many questions. So much water passing under the bridge that we can't tell the colours. Shall we watch and wait hopelessly, taking sides in the process, that the strike may be called off? I say God forbid! It is hightime we engaged in meaningful ventures. Let's develop our all-round selves while the strike lasts. Because neither ASUU nor FG cares about US!
God bless the NIGERIAN STUDENT.

In as much as ASUU is gradually loosing their touch on negotiation matters, they deserve to be paid. In the long run, they were fighting for a just cause. I just hope the funds will be totally immersed in the Education Sector and not private pocket (like it's usually done).

Try asking yourself who will also pay for my EXPIRED house rent considering the fact that I didn't spend a minute there for Five months and if U are a student, u are one f the reasons why Asuu will say our Education is bad...... Check your terrible English b4 u post comments here

The comments made on this site are just so sorry grammatically to start with. A vast majority of the people that drop comments here (mostly undergraduates or graduates who are products of Nigerian Universities) can't even string correct sentences without making eye-gouging grammatical blunders(imagine someone writing 'is' instead of 'its'). How on earth should someone who spends so much on education be proud to go to school in a country where none of its universities are amongst the top 2000 in the world, its a shame! Nigerian students listen/watch the news, you won't die if you do so, don't come here and start typing like an illiterate, Knowledge is light, and ignorance is darkness! YOU have a right to quality nd proper education, and ASUU is trying to see to that. The Federal government in all its Wisdom decided to prolong the strike till now, and you expect the lecturers to bear the brunt?

I honestly feel for Nigerian students. Unfortunately, NANS dts supposed to be an important part of this struggle is so laid back because the bunch of "greedy Excos" have become "Abuja Loyalists". What happened to d days of Babangida must go riots?! Nigerian students should wake up, conquer fears and make things happen. This strike has stayed for too long because the Nigerian students permitted it to be so. No struggle is WON so peacefully.
