EU bans food exports from Nigeria

The European Union has banned some food exports from Nigeria. Among the food items banned includes beans, sesame seeds, melon seeds, dried fish and meat, peanut chips and palm oil.

A statement from the European Food Safety Authority says the food substances were banned because they contained 'a high level of unauthorized pesticide.'

Nigerian beans was banned because it contained between 0.03mg per kg to 4.6mg/kg of dichlorvos pesticide when the acceptable maximum residue limit is 0.01mg/kg. The ban on the food substances will expire in 2016.

This is where regulatory agencies work not here.

Now exporters will sit up and up their game. As for the items they are still allowed to export, they will take the time to make them up to standard, putting quality first rather than gains.

My people let us all be very objective with our responses. Our house is not in order and it take foreigners to expose our yash (pardon me).

NAFDAC, SON and other regulatory bodies have failed us considerably and the poor populace are the one at the receiving end with health issues so rampant than ever before (the high incident of Kidney failures, Infertility, Cancer etc which was alien to us is vey much at the forefront with India gaining from our pain. There is virtually no family who does not have someone who has visited India).

You need to see how Beans is preserved at Iddo lagos with chemicals unfit for human consumption (Ever noticed you can keep beans out for a long while with out bugs eating it? or when you cook beans do you notice the dark colored water and smell - even white beans)

This explains why cancer, kidney failure etc are on rampage in Nigeria.

So what does this say about the food we are consuming in Nigeria?. The regulators need to ensure that food is health for Nigerians to eat.

That is what you get when CBN banned importation of some items. It is called trade war in advanced economics. Honestly putting a ban on importation is not the ideal way to grow local industries and currency. CBN should know, Emefiele should know.

Africa for Africans. The African market is large enough to sustain each country's agricultural economy.
Pan Africanism is the way forward for us but the West will continue to make any part of Africa at any given moment in time a hostile environment.

The real kicker will be to discover that the very same dichlorvos pesticide is produced in the EU and supplied by the same EU to Nigerian farms.
Order in the midst of chaos is the Illuminati way.

U dont have sense....if u know what this means u wont sound so ignorant...in civilised countries ,the citizens will rise against govt to do proper regulation and not have citizens poisoned..u shud be telling ur govt to sit up instead of demonising the white man...they are progressing and protecting their citizens- ask ur govt to protect u!

Itz thesame food u eat....so itz not just for d people abroad, please!
Ps...its not for nigerians its for everybody over there!

Thank you for your comments! The only sensible one here. It amazing how others who commented can't see the big picture here. They are indirectly telling Nigerians that our food is poisonous! NAFDAC needs to do more for the wellbeing of Nigerians

But no!!! Ur brain rather to also block EU food!
I pity u!!! Leaders of tomorrow indeed!

This I simple, no white people eat African food overseas it is other Africans for a start. Nigeria imports very cheap fertilizer that I banned in a lot of other countries because of the residue it leaves in food. So get it right it has nothing to do with anyone stifling anyone else's development, it is Nigerians themselves hindering it. Why not understand it is only yourself you are hurting by eating chemicals, it leaves people with cancer and serious illnesses for which Nigeria is not equipped to handle.
-my view-

Now, this is a really sad thing to happen to Nigeria at this time, with the fall in oil price and the recently signed Iran deal which will further cripple the price of oil, Nigeria has been looking for ways to boost non oil trade to improve our balance of payment position and we get this type of news? The truth is that organisations like NAFDAC and COBALT should stop paying lip service and start doing their jobs. farmers should be educated on the right pesticides and fertilizers to use, and if the one they use is not acceptable by foreign countries, FG should ban its import and subsidise the ones permissible by the foreign markets.
Now, if these products cannot be allowed into these countries bcos of harm dat they might cause to their people, shouldn't they be banned in Nigeria as well? or na we sabi eat rubbish or wat?

Nigeria better wake up and start putting structures in place to enable our products gain access into foreign markets and to also compete favourably in those markets.

oya make we dey see wetin FG go do now, may be CBN go issue more circulars to further save our FX.

DO YOU BLAME THEM WITH THE RATE AT WHICH CANCER IS RAVAGING THE WORLD.
NAFDAC SITS AND DOES NOTHING

JUST ME said...

This is very simple na, reduce the amt of pesticides and preservatives applied to this crops.. In that food we consume in Nig will be safer for us and them.

Unknown said...

Time for Nigerians to enjoy what we have... excess food everywhere at cheaper rate

Ade said...

This is it...they only teach us these things in school. as an agricultural science student, I know how toxic the residue of these chemicals are in foodstuffs but then we have to regulatory body to watch these things, they ban pesticides is US and we still keep using them here, I wonder what our FEPA does

Ade said...

And akpu is what?

Please keep flooding European countries whichever way possible through illegal immigration, move 25% of your population to feed on their social welfare system.
Focus on economic ties with Asian nations and South America so that you can reject European exports.
