Succour for air travellers as air passenger’s rights bill passes second reading

The Air Passenger Rights Bill is presently on the floor of the House and it has passed second reading. If things go according to plan, then many Nigerians who constantly travel by air will soon heave a sigh of relief. All the agonizing stories of baggage loss or damage without proper compensation, flight cancellation with no prior notice, frequent delays, over booking etc all these will soon come to an end

We know that the airlines and the aviation ministry have turned a blind eye to these complaints over the years. Now the conversation is all over social media, as many aggrieved air passengers have lent their voices to the #AirPassengersRights campaign. Continue...

Let’s fight for our rights; Travelling by air in Nigeria has become a nightmare. The airlines do not care about customer service, it has been business as usual.

The proponent of this bill, Hon. Dayo Bush-Alebiosu will be live on ‘Rubbin Minds’ show on Channels TV tomorrow afternoon, Sunday December 29, 2013. So if you have complaints, questions as an air traveller or may be even an aggrieved air traveller, the join the conversation on twitter using the #AirPassengersRights or follow and tweet at @Dayobush.

Don’t forget to watch ‘Rubbin Minds’ show on Channels TV tomorrow afternoon, Sunday December 29, 2013.

WHEN IT'S TO CLAMP DOWN ON D AIRLINES WE ALL R HAPPY TO DO JUST THAT. HOW MANY OF US HAVE EVER STOPPED TO WONDER WHAT D FEDERAL GOVERNMENT DOES TO HELP D AIRLINES FACT BEING THAT THEY TAKE AS MUCH AS D AIRLINES. IT WAS SHOCKING FOR ME TO B INFORMED BY AN AIRLINE STAFF D FIGURE D FED. GETS AS TAXES ON AIR FARES. A TICKET WORTH 25K HAS D FEDS TAKING 12K N LEAVING D AIRLINE WITH 13K. D AIRLINES R COMPELLED TO BUY BRAND NEW AIRCRAFTS, EMPLOY AND PAY THEIR STAFF, BUY OPERATIONAL MATERIALS LIKE STATIONARIES, COMPUTERS,VEHICLES ETC. WITH THEIR OWN CASH WHILE D FED. GLORIES IN IT;S ABILITY TO BUILD AIRPORTS WHICH OFCOURSE MOST OF THEM R NOW DILAPIDATED AND A SHADOW OF WHAT THEY ONCE WERE. SOME DON'T HAVE GOOD WORLD STANDARD RUN WAYS, NO CONSISTENT POWER SUPPLY, THEY LACK EQUIPMENTS FOR SECURITY CHECKS, POOR CROWD MANAGEMENT ETC. NOT EVEN D ROADS THAT R CALLED FEDERAL HAVE ALL THAT TRAVELLERS WOULD WANT, THUS IF D HOUSE MUST COME TO D TABLE OF EQUITY PLS GUYS TRY N COME WITH CLEAN HANDS. AS A CHILD I EXPERIENCED DELAYS WITH OUR OWN FEDERAL GOVERNMENT RUN 'NIGERIA'AIRWAYS'SO WHAT R WE TALKING ABOUT. DELAYS N CANCELLATIONS R INEVITABLE JARE

This is a good development. Arik happens to be the worst domestic airline now when it comes to customer service. If you have a refund to claim from Arik, they will simply ignore your emails. These trio Prince Ahuchogu, Abiola Shodiya & Azuwuike ihekuna at their refunds unit will never respond to your email. They never pick the phone in their office either. Three months of chasing refund that should have sorted within 2 weeks max ( Sorry guys,I'm so pissed with these trio at Arik Air).

Are you suggesting that this bill should not be passed????????

Thank you!!!!! That is why the ticket price difference to fly out from Lagos vs. Accra of any class (significant difference on Business Class) is that much!

I understand what these politrickians are trying to do but please get your priorities right!

It is never too late to do what is right! We must all speak up for what is right and just. Many of us a re guilty of complaining in secret and isolation. This is the time to support what can benefit all. Let us discuss these issues and forge ahead stronger!

The tax FG gets is not the main issue in this story....... Airline's responsibility to the passenger is what we are talking about and it is really ridiculous here in Nigeria.

Yup... responsibility to passengers... and responsible customer service! that's all!. Abeg go on with the bill Jare... let me have something to tell aero next time they delay me. Tax or no tax!
