More than 600,000
who die annually from tobacco related diseases are non-smokers exposed to
second-hand smoke. The world’s leading preventable cause of death claiming the
lives of 6 million people each is tobacco use which is a slow, but more often
than not, sure killer.
Several efforts
have been made since 2012 in this current administration particularly by the
President to get a Tobacco Control bill passed. Most significant is the setup
of a three-man ministerial team led by the Hon. Minister of Health and charged
with the task of drafting an executive bill.
However, despite
public utterances in May & July 2013 both by the President and the Hon.
Minister of Health, Prof.
Onyebuchi Chukwu assuring on the importance of making Nigeria smoke-free and
reducing the smoking prevalence in the country, there is still no law to this
effect. Continue...
Tobacco Control
Nigeria is a policy change and public health campaign project using Social
Media to advance tobacco control and support the passage of a comprehensive
domestic Tobacco Control (TC) law compliant with the World Health
Organization’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control
(FCTC), to which
Nigeria is a signatory. As part of the project, we have launched an online
petition to encourage the Honourable Health Minister, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu in
his commitment and quest to pass the comprehensive Tobacco Control for
Legislature in Nigeria. The petition can be signed on
The TobaccoCtrl
petition is in conjunction with Social Responsibility Manager

This is good
Take note! The problem is not to legalise Tobacco. The fact of it remains that Tobacco is dangerous to health and smookers are liable to die young!
I am all for this cause and yes I'll sign. But how about the car and generator fumes we inhale everyday? Those ones can be curbed too! How about constant power supply to reduce the noise and air pollution killing people slowly from our generators? How about impounding some cars that think its their responsibility to fill our eyes, nostrils and lungs with useless black smoke simply because they won't check/change the oil in their cars or whatever causes that kindda black smoke(like we are casting votes 2 elect a new pope)....YES let's pass this bill and everyother bill that checks this smoke menance.
The campaign has my support
Smokers ar liable 2 die young .dats it
i totally support the project and i hope it succeeds

OMG! You made a Whole lotta sense here. Thumbs up
U made sense but Try to do adequate research, CANCER = TOBACCO smoke... Almost all the components of a cigarette are carcinogens, fumes from exhaust pipes & noise affects evryone even the owners however, for tobacco, it is the innocent man who inhales that is most affected
Tonto dikeh it will pain u very well chai dnt go and start stashing dem o(MC)
Millions of children are dying of malaria. Nigeria is one of the only countries with polio. Women are dying during childbirth because of doctor strike. Millions are dying in road accidents every year.
You will not take action on that.
But it is the cigarrete that I buy with my money, to enjoy by myself, in privacy as an adult, fully knowing the consequences, that is YOUR problem? It is the tobacco pipe that my 90 years old grand father enjoys that is of national concern and dangerous to national security?
I beg, make I wakapass. Unserious people.
Nice one @ parfait
This is bullshit. Am weak for Nigeria.
Smoking is a choice made by those who partake in it. Signing of the petition will not stop people from smoking either, so, why waste time signing the petition.
people need to stop waking up to start a campaign just for attention!!.. why is the same group not canvassing noise pollution and CO fumes from the generator and cars!! couldnt sleep last night cos of my neigbour's gen..as i deh so, na sleep go get me for office today!!...na joblessness deh cause all ds low priority campaigns!!
@ anon 6:49 if smoking affected only you and killed u as at when Desired we won't have any problem but pls help those friends , family members that are close to u when you smoke them save heir life. All those problems u mensioned didn't start today. Moreover we will tackle them one after the other but we must start from somewhere . I am fully in support of this
Not only the smoke wht about the dust u take everyday, hope that is good,it can't make someone to die young abi Nigerian government look in to this pls Nigeria need GOOD health oh
Why smoke cancer when you can smoke that good tree, and be happy(anti depressant),hungry(appetite drug), sleep sound, have no head ache,no eye problem,no cough or sore throat and that music sounds so good, oh it's illegal well it's cancer then.
Anytime, anywhere I perceive dat dangerous herb being burned n puffed on. My headaches resurfaced. Its gives me headaches, I can't stand it. And I give a dagger luk to any guy u puffed beside me.
