You get home, switch on the television and you are confronted with a blank screen or an error message that bobs slowly.
You wait for it to clear and get the signal. It does not. You sigh, in frustration, and begin to seethe at being cheated by your pay-TV provider after renewing your subscription.
Angrily, you draw your phone from your pocket like a gun from a holster, dial the customer care line, which is sometimes clogged by calls from people in your situation or those with other complaints.
Your frustration doubles. Resignedly, you sink into your seat. But this needs not be so. Reconnection difficulties after subscription renewal are caused by a few factors-all avoidable and easily remediable. The first is a non-active decoder. If a decoder is not active at the time subscription is renewed, following the expiry of the previous one, reconnection will not happen. The widely used technology in pay-TV operates by sending signal from the satellite to a ground station, a one-way communication or downlink (DL). The decoder does not send a feedback to the satellite. This way, the pay-TV provider does not know if or not you are receiving signals. When the decoder is inactive (switched off), the signal sent to it bounces back. If active, reconnection is immediate, except the decoder is faulty.
One way to avoid reconnection difficulty is to renew before an active subscription expires.
Another factor is the smartcard which, if faulty or inappropriately placed, will be unable to receive signals
. It is important to check and know what the problem is and of course, contact your provider for advice or solution. An mail to the customer care email address, a post on the pay-TV provider's Facebook page or Twitter handle will take care of this and almost every other reconnection issue. A much quicker resolution of reactivation issues provider via text messages to a short code of the pay-TV provider. DStv, for example, advertises the short code 30333 to which a subscriber should send a short message and get reconnected almost immediately. A DStv subscriber simply needs to type RA, leave a space and type the first ten digits of his smartcard number to have the account reactivated. After the message is sent, a subscriber will receive a confirmatory sms explaining that the reactivation is being processed. He/she only has to wait for a while, ensure the decoder is active and the channels would be unscrambled.
This requires a lot less effort and time than having to be on a long phone queue to reach customer care personnel.
A major factor, often ignored (not willfully), is when a subscriber has outstanding payments to make. For instance, if you have a dual-view, you are required to pay an additional amount for it. Paying less than that, however little, will make reconnection impossible. This is because your pay-TV provider's system recognises you as a dual-view user. Should you have a need to revert to single view, you will be required to notify your provider, which will then do a reset on its system to make it recognise that you are back on single view and should pay subscription for such.

Gosh it has happened a countless times trying to activate and making fruitless endless call to Dstv. Why don't they also try to address the issue of deactivating you before the said 30days of subscription expires?
can't remember d last tym i renewed mine, mata of fact na till footie season start i go subscribe mbok!
RA does not reconnect every subscription. Atimes the money will be in the acct and when u send RA, u will get a message cannot be cleared. And when u check the account u will see the money is actually there but wit a minus e.g/
-3600, -1800 and u will notice that such account is still suspended while the money has already been deducted. So sending reset to 30333 can never make such accounts to work or reconnect unless you call customer care. I think DSTV should make 30333 and 4688 to work for all errors not only E-16
Finally! Dstv admits that that they are the ones running this unsolicited campaign.
They couldn't help but tell us how to send sms to reactivate your account.
Dear Dstv,
1)You are too expensive.
2) That your send sms to 30333 stuff doesn't always work. And you forgot to mention that sending the text isn't free oh. The last time I used it I sent it repeatedly cos it refused to connect and I wasn't connected. Only for me to receive message the following day that my reauth process is in progress. Imagine!
3) if your customer care lines aren't enough simply get more. You have no excuse for queues during phone calls. We pay you money. Our hard earned money. And the phone calls isn't even free oh. So what's the shakara?
4) Advertising yourself codedly on linda's blog isn't changing anyone's opinion about you people.
That ball stuff and double view ain't worth paying you N16,080 every month. More than some people's salary.
Linda if you like don't post. That was how you didn't post the last one I wrote on one of their last advertisements.
Biko they should park well, the self service never works @ all. You send text so tey your fingers starts hurting.
Noted!!!

Thanks Linda.
The dstv people are full of trics most south african companies treat there customers in nigeria with disdain.
Dstv, you people are not trying at all. After charging very high, your services are just too poor. I just pray for competition so you people will leave our country. You've made enough money already.
Sending RA to 30333 never works. What is more annoying is when you call them, they keep telling you that you can clear yourself by sending that message. Pls u guys need to sit up abeg.....
Don't mind the thieves. Stingy a..holes. Is that not a measure of your ineptitude when ur customer care lines are all queued up? Ur customers are definitely not calling you to thank you. It's not ur fault ; it's Nigerians that don't have another option. Ole
I swear u just spoke my mind
This useless unnecessarily expensive DSTV with all ur dry channels and outdated movies, abeg I rather pay money for data and download better movies, instead of wasting my money on fraudsters
Very annoying,I do tell them not to burn my credit with their clearing msg tingy. Ndi ala
Wonderful
Anonymous 11:27,i ve bn in ds situation bfor and she is ryt, dat RA shii dsnt always work, so jus shut d fuck up, it's Sunday
#*karlishah*
Dstv is pretty annoying. After wasting ur airtime sending dat damn message, it still wouldn't be restored
#*karlishah*
As far as I'm concerned all this is story. If they can send a msg when subscription is expiring, the platform should also know when payment is made. It's fraudulent and can't be accepted.
Thank you very much. Apart from wasting your credit they now start informing you that you can send text to do a reset.
I am like I know that already. Would I call you if the reset worked or can't I also call for another issue?
You should all try a new pay Tv in town they offer a better customer care service and low budget and high quality materials that you like
Even after paying 3-5days before expiration you will still get yanked off. The sms reset has never worked for me. (RESET card no) I have sent it several times only to receive "in progress". Even the online self service reset never worked too. Funny only Facebook posts worked.
