Director General of the DSS, Lawal Daura is an APC member - PDP

Press statement from the PDP...
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at its meeting today thoroughly considered a number of very important issues pertaining to the state of affairs in our nation.
The NWC brings to the attention of President Muhammadu Buhari to some disturbing development in the polity which, if not nipped in the bud, might significantly affect our democracy and stability as a nation negatively, and that is the growing and unwarranted intrusion of some over-zealous security operatives on issues bordering purely on politics.
In particular, the NWC wishes to draw the attention of the President to the continued intimidation, harassment as well as the hounding, arrest and detention of Electoral Officers and members of election tribunals by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Rivers, Akwa-Ibom and other PDP states.

The NWC notes that this unfortunate development has been the case since the appointment of the new Director General of the DSS, Alhaji Lawal Musa Daura, whom we learnt was a critical intelligence stakeholder of the APC as a card-carrying member of that party during the campaigns. This is ungodly and unacceptable.

We do hope that in his new job, the Director General of DSS is not mixing issues on the APC presidential candidate and the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, hence the need for Mr. President to rein him in as the development is capable of eroding the cherished independence of the judiciary and the electoral commission, a sine qua non for a virile democracy, which guarantees our unity and stability as a nation.

Similarly, we urge Mr. President to take a critical look at the issue of the appointment of Mrs. Amina Zakari as Acting Chairman of INEC for which our party has severally raised some salient issues why she is not suitable for that position. It is incontrovertible that Mrs. Zakari by virtue of her blood relationship with Mr. President cannot preside over the affairs of an Independent National Electoral Commission.

Nigeria belongs to all of us irrespective of political, religious and ethnic affiliation and as a responsible political party we shall not fold our hands and watch while our nation drift along dangerous line.

Furthermore, the NWC commends and congratulates the PDP caucuses in the Senate and the House of Representatives on the smooth emergence of the Minority leadership in the National Assembly. We note that the process was without any interferences whatsoever from the leadership of our great party in keeping with the dictates of the independence of the legislature.

Finally, the NWC deliberated on the state of the party in Ekiti State and resolved that it only recognizes the state Exco led by Chief Idowu Faleye. The NWC however summons all critical stakeholders in the party administration in Ekiti State to a meeting with the national leadership on the issues in the state chapter.

Signed:

Prince Uche Secondus
Acting National Chairman

PDP can do nonsense..they don't support zakari...well...when Jonathan was in power why didn't they say they support khan as inec rec in rivers state...the funny thing is...buhari is not interfering with those institutions....the institutions are acting independently now as it ought to be because the right man that has got the trait of leadership is at the helm of affairs.

Why would sensitive person associate a political party to an ethnic group? This is unecessary and uncalled for. We must guard against infuriating statements on this blog.

PDP is a caricature of what political parties should be. Highlighting the word " we learnt". How cheap and ludicrous. This ain't business as usual. Get busy PDP. You can't revamp with all these high school dirty politics.

You know what! I am proud. Proud to be a card carrying member of the pdp. In all this campaign/election brohaha, the party had grown. They now speak with one loud voice. A voice that has shown itself Distinct. Regardless of time and of circumstance. The Pdp will come back much stronger with the help of apc. It is already evident that there is inherent capacity to deal with differences. What we need to develop right now is our approach and (touch wood) it is happening. Already. Maybe we are even forming an ideology in the process. Wow. I am glad we lost. We finally have a chance to build a party. Wow.
Beyond this, thx for remembering that Nigeria doesn't just inhabit men, women exist in this society and our great party recognized this in the appointment of senator olujimi as deputy minority whip. this means a lot for me as an aspiring woman.
God bless the pdp
God bless our great nation, Nigeria
God bless his children

Amen

I have realised people on these blogs don't read news. They just talk based on the headlines. That is why they say if you want to hide something from an African, put it in a book.

Irrespective of what the party has done in the past or who is speaking, these people are at the top most echelon of government and can and should speak. So that when these things begin to happen to poor masses or social media activists, who will then speak up and be heard?
The head of DSS should be apolitical. So also should the head of INEC. You pick your village people who bear the name of your village as surname and they begin to hound and hunt down people. Fear is rife in the country. The DSS can pick just anyone for their torture and torment without formerly charging them. Confine them in their dungeon. Was this happening in the past regime? DSS is now a tool of witchunt for the president. In the name of searching for things in their houses. You will accept it now because it's the corrupt people they are doing it to. What happens when it starts happening to your family members. And if this INEC is badly constituted and you call them wailing wailers. What happens after 4years when you are not satisfied with the government and want to vote them out? Do you think the corrupt and power drunk village members will let your votes count?
The more diverse the voice, the stronger the democracy.
The new government is teaching people a lesson not to ever relinquish power. APC will never want to give up this power they have now because they know what awaits them. Just look at the Lagos example and you won't look far.
What hurts is that you people can't drop partisan or tribal sentiments see the bigger picture. Nigeria is mentally divided and only people benefitting from these are the vile politicians.
