The deplorable state of our Nigerian Universities in photos

Despite being the giant of Africa and being the most populous nation in the African continent, no Nigerian university is listed in the top 1000 best schools in the world. That is because our education system is a mess. The deplorable infrastructures in some of our schools have been captured in photos. Unbelievable! Please read the photo captions in green. See more photos after the cut...

Let Nigeria be handed over to whites to rule us, even if they take half of the resources, the remaining half will be used to take care of the country instead of a group of people looting all. Nigeria is going down the drain and no one seems to notice. Keep praying people, hopefully y'all will wake up from your slumber in the next 50 years. Shame!!!

A justification to ASUU's plight right? Well, the Nigerian education system is in a mess! In terms of Infrastructure and both academic, I just hope this would be the last strike action that students face, and I commend ASUU's resilience, because these are part of the reasons why the strike is still on and the government keeps shying away from her responsibilities!

this is just too sad.....Nigeria has got a long way to go...we are not even close to development and cant be called a developed state or country. the government should look into the educational sector (the federal, and state particularly), and work hand in hand with the various schools in areas where help is needed. another thing killing this country is maintenance.....there is poor maintenance in the educational sector.....am not surprised no Nigerian university is listed in the top 1000 universities. i wonder where these universities keep their international students when they come for summer exchange programs. this is just too sad and shameful. God help us *sigh*

I have sworn that my kids , my nieces and nephews, my wife's nieces and nephews would never school in such deplorable conditions. so help me God. it is sooo sad and it hurts. We have leaders, there are VCs in these institutions. what is the country turning to. I see no deterrent for cultism, exam malpractice, mediocrity and many other characteristics our educational system has become plagued with. God help Nigeria.

Anonymous said...

I love OAU...Africa's most beautiful campus

Anonymous said...

Dis aint governements fault... Its all due to d various administration of each school, Akoka is always on point, renovations go down evrynow and den. And its a government owned school, so wat are we sayin here? Dey all get d same funds its jst due to personal administration.

Push UP said...

But wait oo linda...I don't think that is a recent pic of ABU zaria cus they keep renovating my X campus
The arche studio isn't that bad...cus the last time I went there they had finished suleiman hall, then iksa, then rubadu hall and some other theatres, so Abu zaria is really trying ...more could be done but its far better than the rest...chei c bathroom

Wow, this is just a terrible site. Speaking as an ALumni of ABU, learning conditions are alot better than this. But beyond that.. THoses of us that have gone through these institutions should really try giving back to them. I see this as a wake up call for every Nigerian who has every benefited from Public Schools. Let's give back...

Anonymous said...

Prvate skools rock big tym

Anonymous said...

Question 1: what have the ex students of these schools that are doing well done for their universities. In other countries old rich students contribute huge amounts to their schools.

Question 2: when we all refuse to pay schools fees, how do we expect these universities to maintain their infrastructure. Everybody wants a world class school but nobody wants to pay for it. But the same people will run to the Uk and pay gbp12k per annul to Uk universities. Even the rubbish schools they would pay too.

Anonymous said...

Thank you, The government isn't doing well, we know that! What about the destructive nature of Nigerians, mostimes Nigerians have no regard 4 facilities that belong to the public, we shld change that attitude, we are Nigeria!!

Anonymous said...

I studied at the University of Benin and the pictures are very true. I don't know why people are saying the pictures are false or old,the truth is we don't have any standard schools in this country. We just go and cram materials and pour it out in exams, get our paper certificates and back to hustling in the job market. Its crazy and something has to be done and quickly too.

D1 heritage said...

I spent 5 years in awo hall oauife,I never for once use the toilet,it's always short-put cos our toilet is a disaster, ajose lecture theatre ,if you come late to chemistry 101 in those days,u will sit on the floor(undergraduate ) just to mention few, anyone that pass thru any govt owned university aside UNILAG will understand wat am talking about,if senator/governor/president s children can also survive in this environment then ASUU can call off the strike,if not it's operation total paralysis.....Aluta continua ,Victoria ascerta

SIMPLYCOCK said...

Someone should make it a duty to photograph the toilets in all the universities in Nigeria....I did my BSc in UNIBEN and Masters recently in UNILAG...In matters like this UNILAG is a heaven compared to UNIBEN

Anonymous said...

so u go unn? Santa villa and simeon tins.

Sunset said...

I agree! The problem with Nigerians is that they rely on God or a severely corrupt government to fix the problem! Instead of using such disgusting facilities, can't every citizen join hands together to fix this mess? They prefer to give their hard earned money to fake pastors, while their children endure this. Very selfish and lazy people. Before I get attacked here, I don't care what you think! It's my opinion and I'm entitled to it.

Sunset said...

So sending your children to study abroad is the best solution right? Why not use that money to fix the problem here in Nigeria??? No wonder the universities are the way they are! Africans, especially Nigerians, only think about their own! No unity at all. What a shame.

Anonymous said...

But is getting out of the country the solution???? The problem will never be resolved!

Anonymous said...

God can help Naija, when Nigerians stop waiting for Him to do everything! Get up and fix the problem yourselves!!!

Based on these pictures, I think Nigeria Gov'ts are the most greedy; they have succeeded in making all sectors of the country the same. Check where the govt officials leave, where their children study, etc. For some privileged ones among us who had seen things oversees, we know surely that even animals can never be kept in such places shown. Is there any hope for this country at all?

You know, for someone condemning something, you should thank God you are in Nigeria cos i know you can't try this elsewhere when you are sued and asked to identify these buildings.
