Fabrice Muamba retires from football at 24

Fabrice Muamba, for those who don't remember or know him, is the Bolton Wanderers midfielder who collapsed during a match ion the 17th of March this year, and his heart then stopped beating for 78 minutes. He spent four weeks in the hospital and doctors said his recovery was a miracle. Five months after the incident, he has been advised to quit football for good. Find the statement he released today after the cut...

Since suffering my heart attack and being discharged from hospital, I have remained utterly positive in the belief I could one day resume my playing career and play for Bolton Wanderers once again.
As part of my on-going recovery, last week I travelled to Belgium to seek further medical advice from a leading cardiologist. But the news I received was obviously not what I had hoped it would be and it means I am now announcing my retirement from professional football. While the news is devastating, I have much to be thankful for. I thank God that I am alive and I pay tribute once again to the members of the medical team who never gave up on me.
I would also like to thank everyone who has supported me throughout my career and the Bolton fans who have been incredible. I am blessed to have the support of my family and friends at this time."
I love the game and count myself very lucky to have been able to play at the highest level.

Lucky him! He should count his blessings and quickly get a degree or invest his money on something that will help him for the rest of his life. I know alot of young boys that never made it out of the football field....and to them I say... RIP!!!

too bad his carrer was cut short @ a tenda age. Truth be told, his retirement is coming a little bit late. Was suprised wen he was nuturing a return back to football. His surgeons shud be well rewarded. Dis brings me to d question on d mouths of nigerians; if he had collapsed in nigeria, what wud have happened? He wudnt have gotten d neccessary attention needed. His family members would have been asked to pay deposit before treatment commences. Hu knows, he wud have died

Awww... Everything does indeed happen for a reason Fabrice. I'm sure God has a far better plan and purpose for your life.

I recently watched an interview he did on CNN and he was talking about how his faith pulled him through and how it is a miracle from God that he is alive today. He also talked about what an awesome testimony and witness it would be to the power of God, if after this he still returned to playing professional football.

That may not happen now Fabrice but do not let your faith falter, because there is something so much bigger and better that God wants to use in your life as a witness and testimony to draw the unsaved to Him.

78 minutes.... WOW.

In the medical world, an hour plus without oxygenated blood reaching the brain can be totally devastating. He could have experienced severe neurological damage, paralysis, organ failure and more. That Muamba can release this statement is a miracle in itself.

God definitely preserved his life because he had better plans for him. I hope he realizes that and uses his life to serve Him and Him alone.
