Good morning Linda. I write on behalf of over 200 girls who are current residents of the school hostel of federal university of petroleum resources effurun Delta state who have been victims of sexual assaults for over 8 months. We have tried on so many occasions to make our plight known to the school management but no one takes it seriously.
We live in a hostel with low fences with no armed security (only sheriff deputies ...usually one per hostel) who fall asleep at the slightest breeze. It started June/July last year with girls waking up to screaming at night. Apparently, a man/ men had jumped the fence nd starting touching, rubbing and molesting sleeping girls through their windows. Imagine waking up to strange hands on ur body ... the shock and trauma leaves most girls in tears..... management claims we are imagining things or asks us to hold on to the hands wen we wake up. .. and slowly the issue dies down. We resumed dis year to new complaints and it got worse last night. A hypertensive student almost had a heart attack when she woke up to a strange hand working its way up her legs...after opening her window and tearing here mosquito net. We woke up to screams and she was rushed to d health center.... nd her asthmatic bunk mate was left almost choking to death. Almost 9 rooms were visited last night. School authority has refused to make out fence higher or place patrol teams... they insist we hold on to the man when we see him... which is nearly impossible since d first response is to run nd raise an alarm. The option of moving the beds away from d window is also out of it since we live in already overcrowded rooms with 4 bunked beds (8students) and four large lockers. We know that creating buzz about it online is the only way to get managements attention .. please help give us a voice ... we live in fear of standing up individually and being victimized or our grades being punished .

You girls should send random pictures of the hostels too. Online campaign works best with pictures attached. You guys should also create anonymous twitter identities and use ot to propagate ypur complaints

na wa o! Fupre management should act fast and stop this assault before it becomes more critical than it already is. in any and every way let us sound the alarm till the school's authority take necessary action.
It is a pity that the school management is not doing anything about the issue. Rape is not something that should not be treated with seriousness. If the school management is giving a dumb ear to their complains, let them invite their parents in to the issue and let the parents sue the school managent to court or let the students engage in a demonstration and be ready to go on indefinite strike untill things are put in order in that school. It is because of this issue of security that Boko haram members were able to kidnap innocent children from Chibok school, no body was there to protect them. If you are a student of this University better leave the school if nothing is done to protect the female students from such an ugly situation. This is why some parents take thier children abroad for schooling because they are sure that such may not happen over there.
Hello Linda. Im an avid reader of ur blog n wish to use the platform to inform the public of what is going on in Lagos state public schools.I have been trying to enrol a girl living with me in Lagos public secondary school for almost a year now without success. All the required procedure has been taken, yet what we keep hearing is that the applicants files are on the table of the deputy Governor of the state who has refused to sign them for students to be admitted. Pls I'm by the medium appealing to the deputy Governor to sign the forms on her table so that these innocent Nigerian students can have access to education like their own children too. Pls help appeal to her o!

Are you sure the attacker is different from the school's own security men? I have a feeling that until the university holds her security team accountable for this breaches, the attacks will not end.
Pls am a student in 300 level there its not for real no one can get into d hostel those girls need to be checked on when u hear d real story u can even ask them to go for brain check up its just fear my people
I don't think they are making it up ooo. What do they have to gain? I am a graduate of Fupre and when I came back to school for clearance Aug 2016 I heard the story.the school shouldnt wait until they start raping girls before they take the matter seriously. And for real the hostel fence is very low... You can see someone in her room from the road!
