Sunday Oliseh, the bumbling Super Eagles coach by Aderonke Bello

Article written by journalist and Sports development Enthusiast, Ogunleye-Bello. Read below..
I have said it over and again, Oliseh is not the right choice for the Super eagles job. So far the NFF said he is what they want, then, so be it!
Some weeks ago in Abuja, the Nigeria Football Federation appointed Sunday Oliseh, who does not have enough technical clue about coaching, he has however never been able to coach a top team in the history of his coaching career, and has obviously waited on the shelf for good seven years to get the eagles job.

Safe to say, his appointment was controversial because it lacks due process.
It is no longer news that he obtained the UEFA license coaching certificate, rather he is renowned for his excellent TV analysis and punditry which necessarily does not amount to good coaching and man-management, on-field techniques amongst others.

It was widely reported that Oliseh called the security operatives in Belgium to get Vincent Enyeama out of the eagles camp, the legendary goalkeeper was ridiculed, Vincent is not a perfect human being like the rest of us but, no one deserves such treatment. He is the captain for God’s sake. What on earth was Oliseh thinking? This is just ridiculous. History will not forget him for the drama in far away Belgium.
The coach who is using the Super Eagles to test run his coaching career disgraced the most capped player in the history of Nigerian football, Oliseh record cannot touch Enyeama’s record in Nigeria.

Unfortunately, the NFF, renowned for swift press releases to deny issues has refused to make any comment on the saga.

POLITICS
Going through the social media, some Nigerians were of the opinion that Ahmed Musa's appointment is political because the Nigerian president is from the Northern part of the nation, why would anyone think about that, like really? That is a dumb thing to say, and on the other hand, Musa is a great guy and lucky to be made a captain in a space of just three years with the team.

I recall, Enyeama had an issue with the NFF’s disciplinary committee some weeks ago when he refused to yield their invitation to the committee for making comments about the team’s safety in Kaduna during the first leg of the 2017 cup of nations qualifier against Chad. Since then, he has been in hot soup and a target, it is an obvious pay back time and some people are using Oliseh to do their beat.

How wise can Oliseh get? No one should be treated that way, not even your dog. This is a low blow coming from Oliseh, his leadership skill is questionable, Nigerians should get set to see more of this coach who has temperament issues, as we all know him to be since his playing days. Enyeama could be rebellious too, but it takes a leader to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the people working under him and manage them well. How did Oliseh feel when he was booted out of the team and he missed the Korea/Japan world cup?

Retirement
I don't believe in Vincent Enyeama retiring, he cannot leave like that after his 13 years dedication to motherland. Carl Ikeme is the new messiah and you feel Enyeama is useless all of sudden, whatever happens to Austin Ejide who deserves to be part of the team. Oliseh is not what we need, he lacks the ability and capability, his leadership skills and man-management is not good for chasing one of the greatest in the super eagles out in that manner. Federal government, human right activists and Nigerians should rise and fight this injustice.

The goalkeeper lost his mother and a single message did not come from the NFF to share their condolence suddenly the picture of NFF President was sent out in a press release when he attended Enyeama's mother's burial, he has done a great job isnt it? shaking my head. Do we call that, hypocrisy? Oliseh said he did not inform him when his mother died, haba!!! We are talking about his mother here, to add salt to his injuries, and despite burying his mum just last weekend he went to camp and this happened. Enyeama please go home and mourn your mum. Work on yourself as well and I hope to see you back in the team, your instagram message on retirement as far as I am concerned is null and void.

Enyeama is still part of the team, as I conclude, I expect the NFF in their wisdom to wade in, it will be hypocritical of them to be mute at this stage

Nigerians play politics with every thing and we have never gotten out of the country favored with such.

Can we help our selves? They lost 2-0 to congo yesterday why? If Enyeama resigns many will follow and we knows the implication, it will take Supper Eagles 10 years to come up again.

Awesome! Just my points! This article make a hell lot of sense. NFF should as a matter of urgency do th needful. The article is so short and precise yet carry million and one meaning nt for all of us but the "coach" and the so-called NFF.

I couldn't agree more with this right-up. That retirement is null and void like the writer put it! I still wonder why the NFF hasn't come out to say anything about this matter.

Olise abeg return the captainship to Enyeama, this guy lost his sweet lovely mum and coming u removed the captain band from him, its not right, if u were in his position of losing something precious to u and coming u are told ur assistant has taken over, how would u feel... My guy 13 years in the squard is not 13 days and suddenly u changed something not worth it, now u lost a precious friendly match that has rated us down, how was that, let Musa wait for his turn, moreover there are other older players b4 him, please let peace reign...

Nice one. Oliseh shouldn't allow NFF to use him for their selfish political and greedy propaganda. He should be all about winning the game and the cup for Nigeria with good qualities of a leader.

#Oliseh to my own point of view no try at all at all. What does he mean?is he trying to say dat if it were him in Vincent's position,he would have left his mother's burial for some other persons to take care of it? Na so Africans dere witchcraft mentality nd green behaviour dey be sha. Wen dem just lobby for one position nd dey finally got it,dem turn out to be bossy nd over using dere powers. Shame.

Imagine Sunday Oliseh's idiotic excuse for not calling Enyeama or attending the mum's burial. He said Enyeama didn't tell him about the death of the mum. It's only people like Oliseh that are complete assholes that reason in this manner. For crying out loud we are not talking about WEDDING INVITATION here. We are talking about someone's mum's DEATH. Do you need a friend, a colleague, a relative, workmate, a player that is part of the team you coach to call you and tell you about the mum's death before you call, send condolence message and attend the mum's burial? Courtesy demands that you call immediately you hear the bad news. Oliseh cannot deny he didn't hear the news of Enyeama's mum death. A tree cannot make a forest but I don't see him succeeding without Enyeama's presence in the team for now. Super Eagle's camp is already divided. Oliseh has. Succeeded in demoralising the spirit of most of the Super Eagle's players. The major reason why they lost against DR Congo. Many of the Super Eagle's players are not in support of Oliseh's idiotic behaviour. His downfall is just around the corner. The stupid Oliseh is just interested in the salary that is being paid to him and not making the team stronger.

Beautiful piece.
~D great anonymous!

Olise has simply displayed lack of experience in coaching job. Too much discipline didn’t help Capello to succeed in England squad and I think our Hot Head coach can learn from there.

Unknown said...

Whoever this Aderonke Bello is, she should endeavor to always look before leaping. I was opportuned to listen to Oliseh's side of the story on Brila FM this morning and it was so obvious that Enyeama has succeeded in whipping sentiments to his side. He actually went the extra mile of being economical with the truth on this issue.
For the records, it was Enyeama that was rude and he was the one that sent himself packing from the camp citing the excuse that Dele Alampasu was called to take his place when the coach hasn't said that. The NFF president even prevailed on him not to leave the camp and apologize to the coach after hearing the stories from both parties.

Enyeama's ego will not let him do that and he chose to announce his retirement via social media. No player is bigger than the coach. It was an apparent show of ego and jealousy.

Anonymous said...

Well said!!! I could not have put it better myself.

Unknown said...

I can't believe oliseh talking about discipline when he's d father of indiscipline n hot temper

Anonymous said...

Am NT in support of oliseh called security on enyeama but don't let us be sentimental just cos we love enyeama does not mean we should not condemned what he tried to do. According to enyeama he said the coach ask me to shut up n I insisted...what massage do you think his passing?see they both have ego n oliseh is in charge n enyeama failed to recognise that. In time of achievements enyeama is not close to oliseh pls check your record

Never seen someone as patriotic as Vincent Enyeama.it is sad how we treat our own. Keshi was arrogant, Oliseh is treading that path of doom. I honour you my NO1 goalkeeper.

I was so happy when i had that Olise was made Super Eagles coach but now,am one of those that will be praying every morning that he should fail.Because what he did to Enyeama is something i cant imagine someone does to me

Some funny opinions here. Does a coach not have the right to change captain if he desires? Was enyeama born with captains band? D writer even lied that enyeama was thrown out when he himself said he opted to leave the room. Na wa for us Nigerians. How did we lose because of enyeama...we're we winning while he was in the team..was he not part of the team that failed to qualify... Can enyeama even come close to oliseh career if that's the argument..pls give oliseh a free hand. He is the one that will carry the can if the team fails, not enyeama. Enyeama can leave. He is obviously tired. Give oliseh support and judge him when he qualifies of fails to qualify.

You write thrash when you write with Bias and never investigate before you write.

No security threw Enyeama out. He was forced out by his colleagues who did so to make peace.

And he was escorted to his room not thrown to the gates.

Also the sentiment of hia mother he brought into the picture is a big and vey big LIE.

Anonymous said...

You're talking Rubbish...Would he have said same thing of Enyeama was right beside him in the studio??Trying to defend himself..

Unknown said...

pinik $ olise are brothers what else you want to see again? to be an analyst is far different from coach. i pray olise should fail in every thing he lay his hand on in his coaching career.

Anonymous said...

@Amaka Doris and Adeola Felix, I listened to the same interview. But did you also listen to his first interview on Wednesday morning on the same Brilla? Oliseh sounded so rude. He said in his first interview that hes building a team for the future and didnt have a place for a captain who is about to retire. And when he was asked if Enyeama has accepted his choice, his reply was that if Enyeama is not comfortable, he should opt out. He sounded like a dictator. Coming to today's interview, all i could gather was, Oliseh and his cohorts at the NFF did not expect the kind of backlash they got. He was desperately trying to clear his name. My sincere advice to Oliseh, the earlier he stops dancing to the drum beat of the NFF, the easier his job will be.

We should deduce one fact from the Enyama saga.No body is indispensable. As u guys rightly pointed out, when Oliseh became very arrogant and unruly during his playing days,He was booted out despite the fact that he was and remains one of our best talents ever.Nigeria did not collapse. If Enyema have chosen to retire,so be it.Nigeria as a nation is bigger than one individual and should not be held hostage. My opinion though.

too much noise by nigerians on many issue rather than contributing to success.

too much criticism and bad mouthing. be it politics or sports.

Nigerians are hurting people and should be disregarded. you see that even on the street when people dont want you to overtake them.

My advice to Sunday Oliseh is to shut his head and go into hiding so that incensed people do not attack him physically. Obviously he does not know the enormity of the injury he has inflicted on his popularity now transformed NOTORIETY. Ewu awusa!

Anonymous said...

This article lacks guile! Obviously the most biased article from a so called journalist. How do you post a one sided story without even hearing from the other.

let me school you... check and balance. basic journalism, get the story from both (not hearsay), have a detailed breakdown of the situation from both parties, then do whatever.

IMO Oliseh should have handled the situation in a more civilized manner and not hush a grown man like that... on the other hand Vincent should know when to speak and when not to. if your coach tells you "NOT NOW LETS TALK LATER", you need to bottle it up and respect his order not because he's older but because he is your BOSS.

No be as food hot dem dey serve am. sometimes you need to chill and let it cool off.

Anonymous said...

It is clear this article is coming from a writer who has decided not to find out the truth or has decided to ignore it entirely. The bottom line is that Oliseh is the team manager/coach and cannot be questioned by his players. Any player who decides to do that is ready to leave the team. Simple.
Oliseh is not a mad man. I don't know how people can actually believe that he held a grudge against Enyeama because he took time off to bury his mother. Its so ridiculous. Enyeama openly challenged Oliseh's authority in front of the entire team. It doesn't happen anywhere!!
