Minister of Finance, Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala made this statement at the World Customs Day event held in Abuja yesterday, expressed optimism that the payment, which is expected to be made today, will help address the current fuel scarcity plaguing the country. According to her, the Federal Government is committed to ending the fuel scarcity within the shortest time and that despite the revenue challenges facing the government, the issue of fuel subsidy payments to oil marketers remain a huge priority.
She stated further that “We have been engaging oil marketers over the scarcity issue. We paid them N350 billion and N31 billion in the foreign exchange differential in December. “Tomorrow (which is today), we will be paying them N100 billion for which we had earlier given them IOUs, and interest rate differentials of N56 billion. I am about to sign to get that paid and I think Nigerians will agree that the government is making good effort to accommodate the oil marketers. They are also Nigerians and they also need to co-operate with us".
The Minister of Information, Patricia Akwashiki, stated that the incoming administration of Gen Muhammodu Buhari will not inherit fuel scarcity immediately because the country has enough fuel in its reserves for almost 1 month, 27 days to be precise.
She said “I want to assure that we have enough fuel to supply and the problem is not that we do not have fuel on ground. We have a problem with the tanker drivers and that has to do with the non-payment of fuel subsidy claims But from tomorrow (which is today), the Coordinating Minister of economy is going to start paying off some of the liabilities we have in that sector and it will ease off,’’.

Indeed, I hope the money gets to them. Trying their best to empty out the vaults.
Better!
Mehn..Nigeria's issues full bucket trowey
Na wa oo
Must they wait till the marketers resolve to scarcity b4 making payments? When you know you will still pay, why not pay as @ when due?
Hummmm...Nigeria. #thingsfallApart
Sack the fuel importers and the tanker drivers.
Thats a huge amount,nawa o.
#Hajia Mufliat#
If FG share 1million each for every Nigerian I'm sure everyone will smile and they will still have billions left from the 156 billion. Thunder fire them one by one for deceiving the masses
Patricia Akwashiki should be very stupid for that statement. She might mislead some but not all. Out of the about 21 NNPC depots in Nigeria we only have fuel in 2 depots namely, Warri(imported fuel that last only 3 days if loading goes on normally and PH also imported by different Major marketers like Oando, conoil and AP. Pls also note that warri refinery has not been functional since last year August due to maintenance and currently Lack of crude. Same crude we have and export to other countries is lacking in our refineries. So where are the fuel to serve Nigerians for 27days. These current administration is a flop. They are just bunch of selfish criminals. Need I say that NNPC depots don't have fuel but here in delta state where I reside, about 10 private owned depots (actually owned by most thieves in this administration), are filled with fuel and most of them even have ships anchored and waiting to discharge again? These private depots sell atleast N89 per liter and transport within warri axis is about N2 per liter, the filling station owners must pay staff and maintain the station so he sells at N100 per liter. Is this what Patricia Akwashiki is supposedly telling Nigerians. Well such fuel at such cost is available if that's what she means. May God help Us all
Thief, Liar! The marketers have not received a dime from una. Ole woman. Na only God go judge una. Linda take note!
I weep for our nation. Why can't they revive the refineries and build new ones with all these billions? The problem that besieges the oil sector/electricity/energy will likely never be solved. The richest guys who own these oil marketing/importing firms are the sponsors of our politicians to several political positions. The govt officials will do everything possible to appease them When they are in. They will never allow even one refinery to b functional else they close their biz. The masses don't know these. The only exception is dangote who is now building the biggest refinery in another African country because the powers that be worked against him when he wanted to do it in 9ja. The current electricity problem is far from over unless we have working refineries. The only country on earth among the big oil six that doesn't have a working refinery-9ja. Shame on our elites and the masses too as we have failed to act in fear of being killed. Check Ghana. Gas is 42 cent per gallon in Saudi. I hope that buhari will fight this monster of people. We need refineries to produce gas for the energy stations. C***oil, Z**oil etc pls u have made too much money from this subsidy. Is it not time to allow us enjoy the oil that God bless us with? Not too much to ask abil
A few nigerians milking the country dry.
No comment for now maybe later today 😝
Thank GOD
Well done
Oh no! Biko, I wan travel o
Take away this oil subsidy na! Una wan cripple the country?! Shoooo!!!
They should be fast bout it pls!
I can sense a foul--play somewhere; the GEJ administration wants to empty the federation account before leaving the office.
The last time I read on papers that the subsidy issue is a scam; it is a way the govt intended to loot our national treasury.
Wait a minute; Meanwhile the Minister of Information, Patricia Akwashiki, has said that the incoming administration of Gen Muhammodu Buhari will not inherent fuel queues as the country has enough fuel in its reserves for the next 27 days .
Imagine an oil producing nation boasting of fuel that will last for 27 days. Shame!

Nice one but the problem of Nigeria leaders is inconsistency.. I remember Obj massively franchising most filling to NNPC govt. Owned so as to cut the wings of these greedy oil marketers... What stopped Jonathan from continuing with that campaign

Why is there no money to pay them??!! Thieves!!! They have spent all the money on elections!! They owe the banks too! NOI...used to look up to you as a role model for us women during OBJ's tenure. Your 2nd coming has a been a disappointing disaster! Why does it have to go this point where the masses are suffering before you take action. Why can't you proactive instead of reactive??! Sooo angry!
