Explaining the reason she's been scarce in Nollywood movies for a while now, Genevieve Nnaji, in an interview with Punch over the weekend, said;
“I guess I haven’t found the right script
yet. Creativity and depth are the qualities that I look out for in a
script. In the beginning, the movie industry emphasised quantity but
things are changing and there is an improvement in trend. I am among the
people who advocate for the improvement of the industry. So said, I am
constantly watching out for the kind of stories I take part in. I am in
support of movies that show a great deal of professionalism and
creativity. Having practiced my art in international & professionally
produced stories like ‘Ije’; ‘Mirror boy;’ and ‘Tango with me’, I don’t
think I can return to the blandness and mediocrity that characterized
Nollywood in the past.”
Well, one Nollywood movie director wasn't happy about Genevieve's description of their industry. In a statement released today, Mac Collins Chidebe (pictured right) said Genevieve should come and improve Nollywood instead of blasting the industry that brought her fame and fortune. What he said after the cut...

and what effort has she made to help improve Nollywood? Those days in
Enugu when Genevieve was growing in Nollywood, our movies were not
rubbish; she has grown now, made money, fame, popularity e.t.c, how much
has she invested in this Industry that made her? All the while she
was busy waiting for Titanic scripts, Nollywood was trying their best to
keep the flag flying waiting for her to come back and take the industry
to the next level. Artistes should stop biting the fingers that fed
them. We are watching and waiting for them to bring down heaven. We made
them stars; we are waiting for them to come back and take the industry to
the next level. Instead of blasting Nollywood, come and improve

No one but God makes a man or woman.
Secondly, removing spirituality, if she wasn't constantly improving herself, she wouldn't even be featured as much as she was. If one is employed to a firm, they train You and try to make u understand the system, and in turn, they make profit from ur service to dem. If U don't improve or impress the firm, they fire U and replace U. So itz a 2way thing, u getting trained and den contributing to d betterment of the firm. So on the contrary, Nollywood shuld be grateful someone like Genevieve was once associated with them coz they don't even deserve someone like her. She put in lots of personal effort to improve herself and thus promoting Nollywood. Nollywood dint train her thru university or wrote her exams for her. So why wuld an illiterate director speak about her in such manner?
Thirdly, life is a forward journey, I don't see why I wuld be working with a firm and get a better place that improves my mind and influence and not move to it. Am not stagnant.
Lastly, we sound like we don't know Nigerians. The same people asking her to come improve Nollywood, would even frustrate her. They wouldn't listen, they're not even literate enough to let her improve them. Imagine the height of illiteracy with d speech of a Director to a press he certainly knew would take what he said to the media. So childish and degrading.

And sincerely, they don't even care, they don't even know they're terrible, so how wuld they even improve?
Take a survey of those that watch Nollywood, u'll see that majority of them are poorly educated(education of the mind I mean)
However the same nollywood makes tinsel. Isn't tinsel so lovely and inspiring? Same Nigerian created Tinsel. Nollywood should sit up. Employ a creative and literate director and reorganise, this includes actors and actresses. Invest funds, think, improve their minds and they'll certainly be patronised by all.
I love Genevieve so much. Not even becoz of her roles, but she knows her worth and stands out and she is Humble. People shouldn't mistake being principled for Pride.
Because I attended a University in Nigeria, doesn't mean I must remain there. I have to graduate, move on, improve myself etc. And that is what she has simply done.

You failed totally in objectivity. We all know there are lots of things wrong in Nollywood and some like finance is out of their control which you can't blame them. Very well said........my thoughts exactly! The script writers need to come up with challenging scripts, something new and diverse with more depth. Not recycled story lines with several parts and different titles that lack creativity. Producers need to be more professional too. Nollywood lost it's glory a long time ago with nothing new to offer but a few good ones. The likes of Emem Isong, Jeta Amata have grown amd are doing well. Others need to strive for quality, creativity and a higher standard, not the shallowness that has over taken the industry today. Most of the movies are a bloody waste of time with nothing intellectual to offer.

i agree with the guy.most Nigerians have this attitude.They travel out and prefer to become 2nd class citizens than coming back to Nigeria to help build a better place.

ok i know this is an old post but i do have to say something. it might be constructive criticism which i very much doubt it is....she needs to watch her words. it was all nice and good back in the day for her appearing in all naija movies that got released on the daily. now all of a sudden she has some constructive words to spill? sure nollywood releases more crap than a Baby would but condemning will not solve the issue. personally i dont watch them except by recommendation and truth be told she isnt even that great an actress. all her roles are basically the same and she has more fame endorsing products than acting. sure she isnt a script writer as someone here said..,.sylvester Stallone wasnt a Producer either when he started but has gone on to produce movies.
