Unknown said...

Soo true. I have been a Glo network customers for the past 11/12 years simply because it's by a Nigerian and for Nigerians and that's the only network have been on since..... I will rather allow my brother "fellow Nigeria " to exploit me than allow a foreigner to come and exploit me. But we also should raise our standard of value in production. When we are excellent in our work and we take pride in our self, then we will reclaim our identity and the world will worship us. Who talk say Nigeria cannot become the envy of the whole world?! I still don't know why we import toothpick. I wrote an article October last year about my divers encounter with "Made in China" I only got infuriated when I went to a bukateria and I pick a tooth pick case and "made in China " stares at me again!! I was so sad bcos right not to far was a bunch of broom. Why can't we use how palm tree produce to make our own tooth pick. So that we can be using "Made in Nigeria " tooth pick? May God help us all

Very good writeup, Linda I hope ur shoes are made in Aba. Pls dont be like all these politicians telling us to use made in Aba wears and shoes while they themselves wears Italian shoes and suits and drives G.Wagon. As long as everybody is willing to sacrifice to make Nigeria a beta place, I am in but if they are just waiting for d poor masses to patronise made in Nigeria things and continue using d foreign one's, then thats where the problem lies.

Unknown said...

If we are all into this, then what do we need the dollar for again, America are importing a lot from China yet the dollar is still stronger than yen

Anonymous said...

But thats the truth...improve the GDP(gross democratic products) which is goods produced and consumed locally and the value of your currency stregthens but Nigeria's have this inferior complex higher than mount everest that they believe indomie with zero nutritional value from Asia is better than rice from Abakalili....that's why once I get married to Linda, I am going Kanye on her to take over her wardrobe..Her style will not change because the lady sure can dress but all those very very top expensive designer labels will be dropped.we will do cheaper and some made in Nigeria and you will be surprised ppl will still think ur rocking guisseppe dem papa lol...its all in the mind
*Linda's Future Hubby*

Armando said...

As much as I would like to agree with this, I'm still going to be a little critical about our Home made products..... how do u expect us to buy a shoe made in Aba when enough resources aren't put into its production?? it is never quality enough!
Many Nigerians want their drinks in Fancy containers and bottles, but what do they get when they go to a bar to have a drink?!, Palm wine in a Calabash, making it look like we are making sacrifice to Sango. Try putting Palm wine in one of those fancy bottles and with good packaging, I tell u, we would patronize it.
U buy a cloth from Aba, it tears within 2 days, and u say we should not patronize the ones brought from oversea! Try to put more effort in the cloth production, let it be able to compete with its counterparts brought from overseas, let it be able to stand the test of time.... Believe me Nigerians wouldn't hesitate purchase such home made product.

Please Note: I'm not saying Nigerian products are bad, as a matter of fact, there are a lot of Nigerian made products that are really good most people could even mistake them as foreign products, but non-the-less, all I'm saying is that our producers should put more effort into the production of their goods. Let it not always be the case that somebody buys a Nigerian product and it doesn't taste, feel or look as good as the ones brought from outside the country...these are some of the things that drive people to purchase foreign products (its durability and so on).

What a myopic thinking. Not even America consume local made only. Nigeria is full of both natural and human resources. We can rather produce things for international consumption also apart from crude oil. Simple pencil is taking Nigeria 2 years to produce, what's that? Incompetence, Backward thinking like yours.

Well said, but I guess you forgetting something. If all of the above is to be well achieved, govt. Will need to place a high standard of quota o importation. More also, bureaucracy on importer should be reshuffled and we'll titghend. A win-lose idea "if Nigeria can produce item A there's no reason it 'A' should be imported.
2. NIGERIA should focus better on what it can well produce, however a great backing of govt. to domestic producer in terms of R&D,fund management, risks mitigation e.t.c will help set ing.standards and ofcourse domestic demand for domestic product will automatically rise. On long run basis global demands for certain domestic product will as well rise internationally.

This guy is the economist that Nigeria needs. Commonsense economists not the stupid theorists clowning all over the place calling for devaluation of the Naira to N240/$1. So what happens tomorrow when scamming Bureaux de Change move to N360/$1. Will the government now devalue again to N320 /$. And the work of Buhairi will now be dictated by Bureaux the Change. Until Nigerian economists realize that the greatest problem facing the country is CORRUPTION and FISCAL FEDERALISM and not Naira devaluation we will continue to grope in the dark with our nonsense theories.

@SENSATIONAL PURITY made a comment about what we owe. we dont owe a lot yet. We thank baba Gode for that one. well, its simple. take for example: if we owe 1million dollars at an exchange rate of N300 to $1, it will take 300million to pay off the principle on the debt. If the Naira gets stronger and comes up to N150 to $1 it will take fewer Naira to pay off the same debt. financial magic.

P.S. Devaluation Na fraud.

We Nigerians need to have a cultural reveolution in order to revive our economy. Look what lead to the revival of Ankara and I think we should all evaluate what we are doing and spending our dollars on.

Instead of flying overseas for holiday.... visit Nigeria's tourist areas like Obudu Cattle Range, Tinapa, Places in Ondo and Ekiti, above our rural areas and expose them to the whole world. For someone like me, my grannies home village has no one there, I can refurbish it and put out for people who want stay a few days in rural setting and also enjoy modern amenities. We should help ourselves. Good write up.
