Doctors at Al-Hadbah Hospital, Tripoli have successfully separated Siamese twins in one of the rarest surgeries in Libya.
The hospital administration said the two-hour long
separation surgery took place on Wednesday, October 5, and was
conducted by Libyan surgeons. The 39-year old mother was admitted to Al-Hadbah
Hospital on September 30 to undergo a delivery operation for twin
babies.
During the operation, the doctors were astonished to find the
twins were conjoined at the stomach and chest, and that their livers
were attached to each other. The delivery operation took one hour and the
mother was allowed to leave while the twin boys were kept at the Newborn
Care Unit for the separation surgery.
Their health condition is stable now and they are expected to leave the hospital in the next few days, doctors confirmed
