Bunch of jokers who should never have been elected into office

Lol...jokers! The same social media they used in coming into power is what they want to gag now! I remember how they came after GEJ and his government using Twitter activists, now 'everyone must be accountable for what they publish?' What a bunch of jokers! This bill, if passed into law, will basically stop most people from writing their thoughts...because how do you know what will put you in trouble? They are basically trying to silence their critics with this oppressive bill. Bullies!

Linda I think it is time to form a proper campaign against this NONSENSE. Let's not take it lightly. There should be petitions and we need to get notable people like SANs involved. You are in a position to actually do something, please lead it. How can they curb what people say because they don't like it? Are we in military rule? Oh I forgot our President is a former dictator. You should have a post daily on this, also showing countries where this happened. The problem is this law will be used against the jokers themselves.

Linda, it is always and very obvious that most of the senators are not there to make laws for Nigerians but to promote their self interest. How come in these difficult times, they are not passing bills to reduce their salary and allowance or making laws to stop people who have presided over failed institutions like banks as in Saraki and Société Générale Bank from heading any public office in Nigeria? Most of the senators have no morals not to talk of the slightest interest in the welfare of Nigerians. There are several provisions in our statute books already that provides for those who feel aggrieved that they have been Hury by publications, but this is not enough for them as they must create new laws to protect their already dented and polluted images. Nigerians should not allow this shenanigan to pass.DA

Linda pls, you went to school, act like it. What he tweeted was that everyone must be ACCOUNTABLE for whatever they write or publish. How is that stopping you from writing your thoughts?? Just don't commit slander or libel because you want to get the attention of the public or bring traffic to ur site. U will be accountable for ur actions when the long arm of the law catches up with u, simple.

I guess Nigerias re still waiting for the change they voted for lol.....Without been told, u can see APC is worst than PDP. PMB have lost is mind, this is funny. Meaning we can no longer say the truth anymore all because APC have come to power. If I may ask, what re they scared of? GEJ receives a lot of insult when he was in power and never silent anybody, what is Buhari up to in this country? They re all cowards, they want to turn Nigeria to a single party system but it won't work. If they re working, why re they scared of social media? I await foolish followers and what they have to say about this. PMB is minister of petroleum till date he could not say a word about the fuel crisis all he could do is trying to stop social media because I guess that's the problem of the country for now SHAME.....

Honestly it's so annoying linda. What's sort of wicked government is this?? I can clearly remember how they haunted Jonathan using social media. Buhari please do something. If this bill is passed, you will forever remain a dictator.

And for pple who want to yap about nigerians being insultive. Its not really about being insultive. Once you say something a politician does not like, or maybe accuse him of being inept in office, you are antagonising him and that can land you in jail. You musnt be insultive before you are provocative, a sentence can slander someone but might not have an atom of insult.

Since they can file defamatory or libel suits against someone that says untrue things about them, why are they after social media. It's to silence the masses. So once you accuse a politician of not doing his job, he can send you to jail esp if you dnt have proof.

It's fear of people calling them out...that's why this bill originated in the first place. Hell will turn cold before this bill is passed.

As for you saraki, you guys are there to serve the masses not protect your interests, If we say we dnt want...then for Chrissakes drop the bill!!

I elected you guys into office, you are there to serve the masses, if the seat is too hot for you...please get out of there you wicked souls...leadership position is not your birthright. These guys must really be feeling the heat to want to gag the masses this early, a few months of sustained social media onslaught and GEJ was gone, they probably apprehensive of their fate after four years under the klieglights. However, to buttress their directionlessness, how exactly do they want to enforce this? I'm pretty sure Nigerians won't just roll over and die just cos of a tyrannical diktat.

Everyone seems to miss the point. If I understand what they are saying, all they want is for individuals to take responsibility for what they say. A lot of people go online and say untrue and damaging things because they know they can get away with it. The good news is this bill will prevent both rumour mangers, APC, PDP loyalists from making untrue claims on the basis that this bill will now make them accountable for any statement they communicate to the public if later found to be untrue. So fellow social media users you have nothing to worry about if what you are saying is true and polite.

Thanks Gloria, you're saying exactly what I've been saying. I've come to realize that a lot of us,Nigerians lack comprehension. We're usually too quick to let our emotions and sentiments guide our thoughts/understanding instead of letting logic guide it.
    God Bless Nigeria.

Anon 4.36....I hope you dnt die of bitterness. This bill will mainly affect newspapers that deal on politics. How many political news does linda post compared to celebrity gossip...and how many times are they lies. She even posts late so she verifies the news first...and sometimes she takes from other sites and acknowledges them. Sorry for you.

Why are people dense? What is true and what is not true. Is it not what the person that has the most power feels is true that is true?
Pdp will even be finished of this bill is passed. Whatever apc says will be the truth and we can't do anything about it. If you speak up and you have no proof, you go to jail.

This is basically censorship. Abeg this is not communist China where they ban Facebook and any other thing that exposes the government. These self involved men don't wanna hear the truth so they think can censor our freedom of speech. We won't allow it. Anyway is it not Naija, how manyblaws them pass that they seriously enforce?, gay marriage, "indecent" dressing. And yet we still have whores like Sarah Ofili, Sonia Ogbonnah and cossy orjiakor parading the streets. Denrele still let's his freaky gay flay fly. Abegi!! Make them pass the law, the day after they pass it I will post on Twitter insulting buhari and no'un will happen.

The law will be binding on us all as Nigerians inclusive of those who passed it. If U are pertubed by the passage or existence of such law, then U are probably a peddler of lies and unfounded propagander.

Nigerians making much ado about nothing new. The crimes of criminal libel and criminal defamation have long been entrenched in Nigeria's statute books, as separate and distinct from civil libel and civil defamation. The difference? If anybody makes a false accusation of a criminal offence, that in itself is justiciable as criminal libel or criminal defamation. Checks and balances.

Intelligence goes beyond just being able to read, its more about understanding the essence and motive behind a statement and publication. There has been some precedence leading up to saraki's post. They are very clearly trying to gag social media. And it turns my stomach when I read statements like this from people like this GLORIA, who just take everything at face value, and in the same breath trying to lay claim to some form of higher intellectual capacity. Well in the spirit of FREEDOM OF SPEECH, she is allowed to aire her lack of intelligence, in the same way I am allowed to call her stupid.
