Photos: Heavy rainfall destroys bridge in Sokoto

The heavy rainfall in Sokoto this morning resulted in near collapse of the Danmarke Bridge. The road is the only link between Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi. More photos after the cut...

Heavy downpour caused this? Look more like something caused by earthquake. It's a blessing in disguise, the government will build a better and modern bridge.

Your comment will be visible after approval

See the thickness of the asphalt...so sad. Suppose to have minimum combination of 30-40mm binder course and 50mm wearing course which should aggregate to circa 3"-4". What i see there is only a single layer which is not the prescribed standard anywhere and it is looking like 10-20mm single course. The mix is another one..kai poorly done work. Fraud everywhere..am very sure the contract BoQ prescribed both courses and see what our supervising ministry people, politician commissioner and politician backed contractor has done.

Needs urgent attention

Honestly we don't have a good government. This particular bridge ought to have been rebuilt and not mended whenever part of the bridge collapses. This is my route and I am confirming to you that similar incident was experienced sometimes back which caused a heavy traffic gridlock. And rather for the government to provide a permanent solution to the bridge because of the huge numbers and sizes of motorist that ply the bridge on a day basis. They only patched the road temporarily and has since then become death trap for motorist.

Unknown said...

Really dangerous

Anonymous said...

Where is my sister oooo @ Hassana, UDUTH people

Azumdialu said...

That's what happens when you pay huge sums of money for a mediocre job. Come rain or shine, that bridge should still stand because mother nature didn't send an earthquake.

Wat do u expect wen roads are badly constructed and never maintained....not surprised though....everything in Nigeria is just in a state of disdain

Anonymous said...

Northwest governors have just be spending govt funds on poor infrastructure

This is bad

Unknown said...

Ok.....

Unknown said...

Those ones are still standing there taking pix, waiting 4d rest part 2 collapse..

Anonymous said...

Our infrastructures are terrible. Bad work done by people given contract to bad people who don't care about people but themselves. Why will a person build something so terrible to the extent it collapses cuz of rain. Bridges don't just collapse when there is a down pour. It is just terrible

Anonymous said...

Was it the rain or the poor quality of bridge/road that caused the destruction? It is time we start demanding quality and bring those providing poor jobs to the book. Contractors should get queried and charged for bad jobs even post usage.
