Naira now 241 against a dollar

Market indications as at yesterday July 13th showed that the Naira is now 241 against a dollar. Financial experts say the ban placed by CBN on importers from accessing Nigerian foreign exchange markets for the importation of 41 items has led to the volatility of the Naira-Dollar exchange rate at the black market.

N241 to a dollar, dis means our naira is depreciating compare 2d dollar which is appreciating.

Our govt should do sth abt dis asap for we can't afford to hav dis depreciation which definitely has negative effect.

Aboki u r really foolish oh, how can u attribute the current rise in power supply to GMBitch when he's yet to build or commission any power plants? every single supply we enjoy today is down to the power plants built by GEJ in the last year, so get ur facts right and stop giving someone credit for another person's work.

this is good news for exporters and those who earn their income in forex. The downside is that imported goods would appreciate in value. Customs and immigration must step up their game to discourage smuggling.

Am not surprised and tomorrow if it changes to 1dollars to #500 I won't still be surprised. You may ask me why, or tell me am an enemy of progress but all I know is nothing has changed about our economy. Therefore, it will be very wrong of anybody who has no foundation in economics to expect naira to appreciate against dollar even when you and I know, that all the items in our houses are imported.

This country is not producing anything aside from oil for export and yet we keep importing. The most annoying thing is imported rice, which carries the largest part of our import. If we still continue this way, it will go far above our imagination.

some ideas are good on paper, but cannot be practicalized
why should new CBN governor ban importation of 41 items ?
america manufure almost everything you can think of, yet they still import everything from bananas to china baby toys...
Nigeria is not there yet, so why ban importation of stuffs used by a greater majority of the poor populace.

This is a War against the Masses......the masses are gullible .... they are made to vote masses during elections, with promises of Eldorado..
They re conned again.. eeyah!

buhari is the man of the year!!!!

Anonymous said...

Clara Davis, you're right in a sense but wrong also. There's the official CBN rates, the interbank rate, and then the parallel (a.k.a black market) rates. The first two rates are below N200 to $1, and that's because they are largely pegged by the CBN. But you, an individual, can't access dollars at those rates, especially with current CBN "anti-dollarisation" regulations. So, your recourse would be to the parallel market. There, you'll find that $1 = N241

Unknown said...

Foolish is you that is expecting Buhari to fix everything in 1 month which Jonathan CNT do in six years

Nicole said...

True! But you don't need to insult anyone to make your point.

Nicole said...

Exactly! We need to start producing before banning. What provisions have been made to initiate growth in the various sectors in which the ban affects? Nigeria......Everything here is 90%theory, 10% practical. We need people with the experience and the qualifications to help map out a plan to improve our economy.
