According to the deceased's wife, Yetunde Bolarinwa, the robbers stormed the residence of the deceased at the Akindeko area of the state capital in the morning.
They were said to have shot sporadically into the air to ward off possible assistance from members of the public.
"The gunmen entered my husband’s bedroom through one of the windows," she said. "They shot him before they went to the living room where they carted away some belongings."
Yetunde said that efforts to get assistance from residents of the area failed as distress calls from the home of the Bolarinwas did not yield any positive result while the operation lasted.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Kalafite Adeyemi, confirmed the incident, saying the police were investigating the matter.
"The police are on the trail of the perpetrators of the dastardly act and we are sure that very soon they will be brought to justice," she assured.

I am just wondering out loud but this is my question and I think it comes from the fact that I live in a society where I have seen spouses orchestrate some devious acts against one another for financial gain; where was the wife when this happened? How come she survived and the husband is the only person that died? Armed robbers don't like leaving witnesses that can identify them.
Sometimes I wonder why I am even trying to relocate to this silly country? From Corruption to Boko Haram to armed robbers to evil family members. SMH
You better think properly.... if you are settled abroad, better pull your strings from abroad..... the world is now a global village thanks to the internet and fast 6hour flights to get to naija.... its even quicker to get to naija from London than from lekki to ikorodu... think properly oh
The inside gist. They robbed this family about 2 weeks ago, one of the armed robbers then went to eat amala at the restaurant a few days ago, got recognised, the bolarinwas traced the armed robber home, called the police who picked the thieves up the released them.....don't ask why they were released but this infruated the robbers who went back there 2 days ago and shot the man as revenge... who do you blame my people......may his soul rest in peace

Wow! Nigeria is truly troubled. I see so much good when I return and I would love to relocate but these stories which happen often do make me think twice. Not so much that it will happen to me or people I know but that it's happening at all. The principle of living in a country where the police will not come when u truly need them unless for a price is very sad, and if you have no money you're really going to suffer. No one but family can really help you and that's questionable in some cases. Basically as someone has already said its easier to grind so hard if your abroad than to return to Nigeria where being frustrated and having no support is normal.
I really hope some justice is brought to the family.
Despite that I love Nigeria and know we all have to change even the people who live in the diaspora and come to visit, it's all our problem.

i returned in 2008. thanks be to God that i'm still alive and well. some that returned around the same time have been silenced. one was trailed home, beaten to a stupor right in front of his apt bcos he got irritated and resisted the goons that wanted his car. his neighbors didn't venture outside to assist him during the beating, despite his loud screams. he didn't survive the beating.
another was mowed down in his car along ikorodu rd by a truck that didn't even stop.
but very many more ppl that never ventured beyond the shores of this country have also been eliminated.
it's a jungle out here. and it isn't indicated on the horizon that it will get any better soon.
