Coroner: Bridge Jumper Was A Nigerian Medical Resident, Tosin Oyelowo

From Mountpleasant
The Charleston County Coroner confirms that a female body discovered Wednesday afternoon on Sullivan's Island is that of missing MUSC resident Olutosin Oyelowo.
Police had reported that Oyelowo, 25, was seen jumping from the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge on Dec. 9. Her wallet and identification were found along the bridge and her car was parked within walking distance.
The coroner was able to positively identify the remains Friday with the help of dental records, said Deputy Coroner Kimberly Rhoton. She died as a result of the fall from the bridge, she said.
Oyelowo's family was informed of the identification, Rhoton said.

Though Charleston police said onlookers identified Oyelowo as the jumper, police could not confirm her identity until a body was recovered.

Users identifying themselves as the young pharmacist's family, asked for prayers on Patch as police, the U.S. Coast Guard and other agencies searched the Cooper River for her remains over the last two weeks.

"We continue to covet your prayers and support for the family at this time," the post read on Patch.
The body was found Wednesday afternoon on a Sullivan's island sand bar, roughly six miles by water from the Ravenel Bridge, Rhoton said.

look at this beautiful chocolate beauty..i hope it wasnt a man that jilted her..on the other hand the devil is messing with the minds of our youth, might have been depression, or some other psychiatric issue that left her feeling hopeless..who knows..but suicide is not the way to go..no matter what the case might be....Jesus is the only one that gives hope to the hopeless!!!

Suicide is not always caused by an Acute stress reaction. It may be the result of a mental disorder and hence warrant treatment in a hospital. This lady should not be judged. Nobody knows what happened especially with regards to her mental state. Our prayers and thoughts should be with her family and nothing more should be said like sanctimonious hypocrites.

That settles it then for those that were vehemently arguing that Linda should change the title of the previous blog post and blah, blah, blah. The minute it was published that they saw her jumping, I knew that it was she they saw.

Most Nigerians just try to deny that some Nigerians are indeed suicidal. I mean, just look at the pressure Nigerians put on women for example. Pressure to excel in school, pressure to get married, pressure to give birth to children and not just any child but a MALE one at that and so on and so forth.

Most Nigerians are stress impersonified. So don't be suprised if those that cannot handle the stress choose to kill themselves. This is why some of us keep naijas at arms length so some of us don't get pushed to the brink of collapse.

Dear Lord, may we never know what it is like to have no other option than to end it all. For all who ask and believe she was selfish etc, I pray that you really never know what is like to have people around you, yet feel so alone.

With such a promising future, o, what a sad thing. May the family have strength to bear this irrepairable loss.

As for me I choose to thank God for the gift of life He has given me, I will not abuse it.

wat if she was pushed off d bridge...maybe her by her assailants...puzzle still unclear to me

people keep saying suicide is not the option as if people who commit suicide are selfish. for a person to commit suicide, the person is not in a rational state of mind. hence the person can't be thinking of the consequences.
let's all take this to heart as Nigerians ... let's be better to each other. a smile, a word can go a long way. people go through shit

Some anti depressants like Prozac if i got the spelling right has suicidical tendencies as a major side effect.

Most people in the states are on anti-depressants. Some of the 'normal' media]cations taken daily has disatstrious side effects epscially if taken ignorantly with another one.

A country with too much freedom has the tendency to make you want more and more and more.

It is good to keep aspiring and keep hoping and make sure there is an element of discipline in one's life. Time to stop and think and ask ourselves what is that desire that keeps me wanting more. It is good as long as there is room for wanting more, with realistic plans to keep going not despair at the slightest sign of back stabbing or disappointments, failures etc. They are the fire that refines the Gold in us. We face it head up not look for the seemingly easiet way out.

I am of course not discounting the fact that there may be a totally different reason for this particular suicide but it is also worth knowing that America carefully hides even more devastating cases of suicides.

Their local news carries more than we are shown. The Local CNN can be even more firghtening. Bloggers living here in the states can confirm this.

RIP lady, suicide doesnt provide second options. Just the one, you are gone, you are just gone...sad face:(

Yes, I pray that Nigerian families will learn from this example where your child will choose to commit suicide instead of coming to the parents, or other members of the family. I know how my family is, you cant talk to this one or that one because of issues btwn the families. I can understand why Tosin felt so alone. It happens, may God's wisdom fall mightily on our families so they can have an open door policy for their children. Tosin, whatever it is, you know. I just pray that your spirit will speak from the grave so other youths can learn from your story. May your death not be in vain in Jesus Name. The following statement is Not aimed at Tosin's family in any way: BUT to all the family members in Nigeria always pushing their kids and family members abroad to send money, send money without regards for our welfare or health, take note that you may be pushing us towards major depression. Have pity on those of us abroad that are barely making because it appears that you guys push all your dreams and hopes on us. Which way Nigeria?

I read the story from a blog sometimes ago and I sincerely prayed that she'll be found, but not I pray that may God grant her family to bear her loss and may she finally get the peace she never had.

It's sad that no one has a clue about what was going on with her. Was she so introverted? Melancholy people have suicidal tendencies. It is not selfishness. It is a neuropsychiatric thing. People handle events and issues differently. We r not all d same. May her soul rest in peace (if this is not just a cliche)

i wonder why she would ever do such a thing, with the hypocrisy going on in Nigerian homes maybe she found out that she has AIDS or something and couldn't tell her parents... what a sad story! RIP doctor
