Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, at the formal public presentation of Daily Stream in Abuja, Thursday, advised Nigerians to stop being dependent on crude oil for the country's national development.
He said it was “crude thinking” to continue to rely on crude oil, urging the country to curtail wastages, diversify the economy and return to true fiscal federalism.
He said:
“Those who believe in what I call ‘the infinite’ nature of oil believe that we cannot do without it. We have done without it before and today, we have gone past the peak, really of oil, because the world as of today, is investing in more alternative forms of energy than buying petrol or crude oil.
‘’So, if you are still talking about oil, you are in the past. As far as I am concerned, the era of oil is gone.
If you want to believe it, believe it. If you do not want to believe it, you will see it. It is crude thinking to continue to talk and base development projections on crude oil,” he said.

When you were in the govt what did u do? So u have finally received sense.. thank God o!
This man is in his right sense. He has said it all.But I wonder why Nigerians with good ideas always do deviate from focus when attain the presidency/any good office. We need God as Nigerians.
He is right the world is moving towards renewable energy which will reduce the demand for oil in few years in come. If Nigeria does not diversify its economy soon it'll be a big mistake.
The only Northern man I will gladly vote for come 2019. Atiku and Peter obi.
This is the most forward looking politician on the national stage. He may not be the best but he is evidently one who knows his onions.
Sai baba! Crude oil is crude thinking. Please tell you Northern brothers and their South Western errand boys. Let everyone take control of and develop resources in their own region. There will be no talk of marginalisation or exploitation. You'll only have yourselves to blame if your region is backwards. Why are they so AFRAID of such an arrangement?
As innnn. We're too dependent on oil capital! God'll help us.

Any time you hear that Buhari is sick, Atiku surfaces from nowhere. It's beginning to look like the proverbial saying of a witch crying at night and baby dying in the morning.
True talk. .diversifying is key
Is it today they started talking about it??? OK, since the dwindling price of oil Nigeria has only focused on agriculture even skeletal as we speak. Many of the farmers are not allowed to farm because of herdsmen. Many do not have machines to work it, same old crude methods same old crude results. When one person says something everyone over flogs and over does them. Before it was oil, now it's becoming obsolete. Now agriculture, every governor is pretending to plant crops even on their birthdays.
Calabar started carnival, now almost every state has started carnivals even the smallest tribes.
Whatever happened to manufacturing such as textiles, mining (I still believe we have solid minerals), artisan promotion because it would help our economy in terms of youth development, employment, trade and improve growth index.
This is a country where the very old get to take and make decisions for the young. Atiku should start from his own state if he loves the country so much to offer this advice. What was his role when he was a VP as regards this?
Support, provide and promote many sector areas in your state then maybe, just maybe you will be worthy of this your role as advisor to the country.
You are a fool for wanting to vote for Atiku . He a big thief
Another crude way of making the South West, South East and Niger Delter believe that he has their interest at heart and vote for him to become President. Let me tell you gullible Southerners, no Northerner ever have your interest no matter how stupid you people think that Northerner is. In the actual fact the Southerner Nigerian Professor is nothing compared to a Northern illiterate politician. They know how to get all of you, just whip the southern sentiments and you will see them lining up for you and all you need to do is to settle them with the crumps and they will sing for you, especially the south west while the south east are the most docile of them all.

-D great anonymous now as Vivian Reginalds
What has each region taking responsibility for their own governance and resources got to do with getting the southerners?
Am proud to be a fool. Show me one politician that makes better sense than atiku and I will vote him. If Nigerians can give buhari a chance, we should also give atiku a chance. If tinubu is not convicted by a court for corruption than atiku is a clean saint.
Gbam. All this talk na lip service. Atiku has oil wells but how has he impacted on the lives of nigerians with the billions that accrue from those oil wells monthly. Just before the last elections, he said he had stopped womanizing (then in his sixties). But how true is that even now that he is in his seventies. Served in the police as... We this man's track records shows he benefited massively from corruption. Even Buhari is far more better when it comes to credibility.
Is this man suffering from dementia and has forgotten he was vice President and did nothing but accumulate wealth. Now he wants to run for president,he is just running his mouth.
The greatest tragedy here is when our youths think a snake has become an agama lizard.Just listen to who's talking.A mid level customs officer who has become a Multi billionaire?
Sure thing but even the blind can see the tide has changed. So what new solutions are you, Atiku proffering? What shall Nigeria base its future devt plans on moving fwd? Is it her manpower capabilities, manufacturing, solar energy, groundnut pyramids, cotton, cocoa, tomatoes or millet production? Or shall it base it on the fantastically corrupt power brokers that line every corridor of its parastatals? So, having agreed on the common challenge, what new resources should the nation now apply in its baseline projections and how should it be rapidly developed,in order, to better the lives of the teeming youths?
