Project for Human Development raises alarm over abortion plans by UNFPA

At a press conference in Lagos, Director- General of a PRO-LIFE non-governmental organisation, The Project for Human Development, PHD, Jerry Okwuosa raised an alarm over alleged plans by the United Nations Population Funds, UNFPA, to reduce the Nigerian population by offering abortion services to pregnant women and girls recently rescued from Boko Haram by the Nigerian Armed Forces.

He condemned any attempt to subject the pregnant women and girls in the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, camps to a traumatic, violent-wrecking and life-threatening abortion process. Okwuosa who accused UNFPA of having hidden intentions which is to reduce the population of Nigeria said:
“We are aware that currently UNFPA is providing counselling to these Nigerians in the displacement camps in Borno State.

Also reproductive health kits and dignity kits have also been deployed in Borno and Adamawa states to support safe childbirth. These are laudable achievements but at a hidden cost he said.

“We are being told that all the visibly pregnant mothers in the IDP, camp must be aborted and others sterilised for fear that their babies will become Boko Haram terrorists, since some of them have been raped by the sect. UNFPA’s abortion and sterilisation services are geared towards depopulation,” he posited. “The UNFPA is an organisation whose primary interest is population control. In the developed countries of the world now in their demographic winter, UNFPA’s job is to promote population increase by all means.
He further stated that developed countries will do anything to increase their population because they are dying out.

Mr Sonnie Ekwuwusi, a director in the organization agreed with Okwuosa'ssentiments stating that the appointment of former Minister of Health, Professor Babatunde Osotimehin as Director General of UNFPA was aimed at making Nigerians and Africa as a whole buy into the idea of depopulation

Ekwuwusi however condemned any attempt to subject these pregnant women and girls in the IDPs to a traumatic, violent-wrecking and life-threatening abortion processes.
He recommended:
“The pregnant girls and women should be offered free ante- natal clinics and rehabilitation centres where they could go to safely give birth to their babies and afterwards they could give them out for legal adoption if for any reason they do not want to keep the babies,”.
The Guardian.

IMHO Anyone that wants the baby aborted should be allowed because they would always be a source of sorrow for the mother.

Abortion is never the best option, except if the woman's life is threatened by child birth.

Very funny. Would our government take care of these babies? After all the noise the young girls would be forgotten to carry their crosses. Adoption? Please! Who would want to adopt the children of such monsters? Unless the person isn't aware. The girls should make their decisions, they were the ones raped and they are the ones carrying the monsters' offspring.

As long as the women are not forced to keep or abort their babies. Let them make the decision on their own.

Controlling the population is not a bad idea, we plenty, kilode

I agree with the fact that the pregnant ones should be given adequate care till they give birth, and give the child out for adoption if they don't want the child.

Even though am not in support of Abortion but I am 100% in support of what UNFPA is offering to the pregnant women and girls recently rescued. The pains of labour they'l go through and all the sickness of being pregnant is greater than the pains of abortions they'l experience. And whoever said it's traumatic and if it's done by proffessionals with utmost care and precautions taken, it won't be life threatening. Ordinarily, being raped is traumatic coupled with the fact that it's not just by one person and by unknown men for that matter not to add the fact that it led to pregnancy. I believe if they'r enrolled in rehabilitation centres and counselled, they should be allowed to make the choice of either keeping the pregnancy or not. Aborting the pregnancy will definitely go a long way in healing them.

This matter is complicated, but who will adopt a boko haram child #sad#

Anonymous said...

i believe it will be difficult to keep those kids considering the way the mothers got pregnant. And all those people talking of adoption know that it will be difficult to adopt such people because of fear of what they will grow to become. i feel the mothers should be left to decide actually. so pathetic!

And if iy happens to be yoy..will yoy keep that sort of pregnancy?.. you dont even know the father of the child you are carrying

I support adoption. Whether rape or not. The babies have the breath of life from GOD. The UN should proved counselling program and arrange for additional. Wth forester parents from other countries.. they can be sent far away from the mothers so they won't be a source of nightmare for the ladies.

funny people. Looking for cheap publicity and money. The should allow the women do as they please. Who will adopt the children

No matter how rosy people try to paint it, abortion is never the answer unless the mother's life is at risk. Subjecting them to abortion will only increase the trauma they've been thru. Let them decide if they want to keep the baby or give them up for adoption.

Since when did terrorism become genetic? Lots of people buy sperm from sperm banks, do they believe the donor's evil streak will be passed onto their child? Even people that buy kids from baby factories or adopt from homes, how many believe the babies are sons of criminals?

We have to decide if it's nature or nurture that shapes a child but let these girls not be subjected to additional stress of abortion.
Those in support either have no idea what happens to the mother after wards, the worry and anxiety that they may never have kids or they want more people to join the worrying club they belong to, having had one.

did not hear of the plans so cant condemn what I don't know if true or not

Why is this pro-life group policing women bodies?
.... The women and girls should make their choices this time. It wasn't their choice to get raped... Nothing is wrong with abortion.... You don't have to be miserable... Weigh the gains and losses then choose.

Finally some sounds thought. All these self righteousness is absolutely unnecessary. No one fighting against this will be around once this news drops off the headline.
People are trying to use these girls to make themselves relevant.
What happens when the 14 old keeps the child, any governmental support for the mother or the child? What does a 14 years old Nigerian girl know about raising a child especially one born out of this horror?
This is what you get when idiots assume to know what's best for the person wearing the shoe.
This should be a personal choice, any girl that wants to, can keep their child, any one that don't should feel free to remove the child.
You can't tell people how to feel becos of your believe.
Am a Christian and I know God gave each and everyone of us freewill, pls let these girls exercise their freewill!
What rubbish!

Nkechi J. said...

You are out serious are you? Ever actually stop for a sec to put yourself in these girls shoes. Its always easier to play self righteous when you're not the one going through such situation.
Since terrorism is not genetic, will you be adopting any of the kids?
I hate when people try to be logical and righteous in a situation someone else is suffering?
Do you know what it feels like for a mother to give up a child she carried for 9months? Do you know what it feels like to be pregnant for 9 months?
Do you know what it feels like to not know who the father of your child is?
Do you know what it feels like to be raped continuously for months by different men? Do you know what it feels like for that rape to result into pregnancy?
Assuming you have experienced all these, now do you know what it feels like for someone that don't know you, to assume to know what's best for you?
Do you know what it feels like to have complete strangers make life and death decisions for you?
Here's an idea, how about we let these girls who have actually been through all these trauma make their own decisions and stop breathing our fake self righteousness down their neck?
Here's my 2cents:
If all these NGOs really want to help these girls, they should give them the counseling they so desperately need and support them in which ever decision they make. Some are mentally capable of going through this, others are not. And knowing the stigma that will following them and their child for the rest of their life, I think everyone need to back off and just support these girls.

Abortion can never be the solution to this problem rather it will increase the trauma they have been thru.... Abortion is an act of murder and the mother's life is at a risks too. Think of So many women out there doing all sort of things to have a baby. If a mother nurtured her baby well the baby would grow up been a hero, but if the mother can't take care of the baby, she can as well give it out for an adoption. Whenever the mothers of those aborted child heard a cry of babies or there laughter it always remind them of there mistake. Those women need our support and counseling. they need love to bear the pains, its not easy but with God and love it will be a relief to them. The babies are there blood and a strong part of them. They also have breath of life from God.

Will u adopt any of the kids.
